Ben Affleck wins Cal. State Poker Championship? Now I don't know what to think of him. The end of times is upon us.

He must have learned a few things, watching him play on TV (not sure which broadcast that was) was less than impressive.

I've read before somewhere that Annie Duke has been coaching him. People magazine, I think.

I hope she teaches him not to try to bluff-out amateurs that don't know when to fold.

Lol!, Now that's comedy folks. I can't believe how many pro's are still complaining about this years WSOP. They need to get over themselves. With the advent of online poker. Pretty much anyone can be a professional nowadays. Or at least claim to be one. Hell, I'm a bad professional poker player myself. Being a firefighter is just my fulltime part time job.

I guess Ben has more time to play now that he's not dealing with JLo. I wonder how Matt Damon is in real life(his character in Rounders is bad ass).

I read some where that when Matt was researching his role for Rounders, both he and Ben started getting into poker. ie. that's when they both started playing.

I figured as much. I also saw James Woods competed in the Party Poker Million Tourney awhile back.

I guess winning this tourney is just one of the 12 steps Ben must do to become a MAN again. He really is looking to get rid of his "Metrosexual" title that was bestowed on him while dating J-Ho. :P

US movie star Ben Affleck becomes poker champ

Mon Jun 21, 8:55 PM ET Add U.S. National - AFP to My Yahoo!

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Movie star Ben Affleck may be unlucky at love, but he is lucky at cards, winning 356,000 dollars and a place at the World Poker Tour Championship in April, officials said.

AFP/Getty Images/File Photo

The gambling screen heart-throb, whose much-feted romance with Jennifer Lopez ended abruptly earlier this year only to see her marry another man this month won a California State Poker Championship late Sunday.

Affleck outlasted a field of 90 players in the 10,000 dollar buy-in event, including fellow film actor Tobey Maguire, who bowed out on the first day of the three-day tournament at Commerce Casino, near Los Angeles.

Coming in second was poker pro Stan Goldstein, who collected 204,930 dollars, while movie executive Chuck Pacheco, who founded Castle Rock Entertainment, pocketed 106,920 dollars an third place.

Affleck, 31, used a couple of pairs -- two jacks in the case of Goldstein and two fives with Pacheco -- to knock the competition out of the tournament, according to casino executives.

Among the players the Oscar-winner outlasted at the final table was former World Champion John Esposito.

Affleck played "a very strong game" and was relaxed and enjoyed himself immensely, according to the casino's Nancy Friedman.

After beating out Goldstein, the famously self-depreciating actor said he was pleased with his own play that at proved he wasn't "a complete donkey" at poker, a game he plays avidly, she said.

Affleck fought his way to victory after starting the final table with the second-to-lowest chip count among the nine players, Friedman said.

The victory earned Affleck a 25,000-dollar seat next year at the World Poker Tour Championship at Las Vegas' Bellagio hotel, the first movie star to do so, according to the casino.

Watching the WPT Champs tonight, I saw that Ben finished ahead of quite a few notable names - maybe he's not such a slouch after all?
