the following is nothing but ranting cause im pissed:

so, around 11:30 last night my inspiron E1705 gave me a blue screen saying it has shut down to prevent damage. I try to restart, and the screen has all kinds of weird colored lines on the loading screens. But...the screen where i would select my user name and enter my password never comes... tried a system restore, did nothing, ran diagnostics, did nothing...dell support is sending me a cd to reinstall XP which hopefully gets here tomorrow. at least its still under warranty, but this fucking sucks.

Weird colored lines I think are called artifacts. I think they are usually caused by too much heat or something clocked too high. I know when I overclocked my graphics card too high these artifacts started showing up, but it is weird that they would show up when the computer is cold and not really under any stress. Try booting in safe mode, instructions are here. I dunno what else to tell you.
