So I lost $5 today b/c I bet Mcat that it would be UT vs OU instead of UF vs OU in the nat'l title game (ship the 20:1 odds tho). I don't think my cause was aided by all the announcers saying during the Big 12 title game that UF was assured getting in, they in no way were a lock to get in as I still feel the best 2 teams in the nation are Texas, OU. Anyways, not the point:
Here are the matchups
Rose Bowl: PSU vs USC
--shitty game
Orange Bowl: Cincy vs VaTech
--Shouldn't this be like the Motor City Bowl?
Sugar Bowl: Utah vs Bama
--Thankfully the BCS buster doesn't get Cincy/VaTech and will have to make up for last year's Hawaii/UGA disaster.
Fiest: Texas vs Ohio State
--Once again OSU gets in on their name and $$$$
Nat'l championship: UF vs OU
--whatevs, will be a sick sick game
Observations:
1. THE LIMIT ON CONFERENCES GETTING 2 TEAMS IN IS RIDICULOUS
--Texas Tech deserves to be in a BCS game over Ohio State, not even close here, tell me how a 2-loss Big Ten team gets in over a 1-loss Big 12 South team. IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT.
2. Ohio State gets in over Boise State even though Boise out-ranks them because Ohio State fans travel better. This game will not be close, do not tune in, Texas will play with a chip on their shoulder and win by 20+.
3. USC vs Penn State is so laughable, would LOVE to see USC vs Texas, but no, tradition overrides common sense here. I don't see how Penn State can compete here, literally in USC's backyard.
4. The Big East and ACC do not deserve automatic bids. VaTech is meh and Cincy almost lost last night to a 7-6 Hawaii team.
5. Utah vs Bama could be the most competitive game other than the nat'l title game, however, it won't be the prettiest game to watch.
Alright, give me your thoughts

playoff?
but seriously, you summed it up perfectly. TTU should be in over OSU, and i'm a huge OSU homer. I think the Nat title game should be Texas/UF though based solely on the fact that Texas beat OU on a neutral field. Nat championship will be a sick game for sure.

I was so pissed that the announcers in the OU game were sucking off Tim Tebow the whole time.

Something else, the BCS REALLY fucked Texas by not giving them USC somehow, now there's no way to get a joint nat'l title because beating OSU by 20 won't mean all that much.
Ok, let's look at the 10-11 teams the BCS had to work with, everyone match em up:
UF
OU
UT
Bama
Penn St
Cincy
USC
VaTech
Boise State
OSU
Utah
I really don't mind the national title game, although, like most, I could see UT being in it. The one thing that Texas has over OU is a solid, proven defense.
I like
UF vs UT (great nat'l title game)
OU vs USC (omg this would be sick and could determine a co-nat'l champion)
Bama vs Boise State (Bama is a tad overrated and Boise can show up in a BCS game)
Utah vs Penn St (2 teams the nation does not care about)
VaTech vs Cincy (same as game above)

Thoughts:
- UT had a legit beef in not being in the big 12 championship game. But once that was decided and OU proceeded to rout Mizzou by 40+, you can't then say that UT deserves to play the national championship.
- Rose bowl gives automatic berths to the big-10 and pac-10 winners if they are not in the title game. Hence, UT could not play USC. Side note: how laughably unfair is it that this game is played in USC's back yard every year? (I just assume that USC wins the pac-10 every year, so this isn't necessarily true. It is, however, always in CA, when all the big-10 teams are in the mid-west).
- On the same note, the big-10 gets screwed so badly on so many different fronts every bowl season. They have the longest downtime since their season ends early, and always travel south/west/southwest. Compunding this is the cold weather making it harder to practice and the rule limiting teams to 15 practices between the regular season and bowl season. And yes, I have tissues in hand.
- Texas Tech clearly is more deserving of a BCS bowl than Ohio State, so I agree that the limit of 2 teams per conference for BCS bowls is stupid. Of course, it's all a part of the retardedness known more commonly as the BCS. #9 Boise State probably has a legit beef here as well, but nobody is going to convince me that they are a better team than OSU. That said, I think I'll be happy if OSU even plays a competitive game.
- The Big East and ACC are lolbad this year. The ACC is especially disappointing considering they added Miami and VA Tech back in '04.. wow how this conference has underwhelmed.
- Hopefully one of Ohio State or Penn State pulls off a miracle and preserves the little bit of respect still remaining for the Big-10 around the country.

Rose Bowl: PSU vs USC
30 point blowout here we come
Orange Bowl: Cincy vs VaTech
Worst BCS matchup ever.
Sugar Bowl: Utah vs Bama
Should be a good game, I'm looking forward to this one.
Fiesta Bowl: Texas vs Ohio State
The Big Ten will not do well.
Nat'l championship: UF vs OU
Great game, can't wait
Best of the Rest:
Ole' Miss vs Texas Tech
TT is the better team but I could see them feeling sorry for themselves and losing this.
Georgia vs Michigan St.
I could see MSU winning this. Georgia had a very disappointing season and this bowl is not where they want to be.
LSU vs Georgia Tech
Looking forward to LSU getting blown out.
Oregon St. vs Pitt
A good, if not very exciting matchup
Oklahoma St. vs Oregon
Should be entertaining
Boise St. vs TCU
I'm looking forward to this one too.
and finally....
Rice vs Western Michigan University
GO BRONCOS KILL THE FUCKING OWLS

2007-08 big 10 bowl schedule (just to prove a point):
BC 24, MSU 21 in Florida
Penn State 24, Texas A&M 17 *in Texas*
Tennessee 21, Wisconsin 17 in Florida
Michigan 41, Florida 35 *in Florida*
University of Southern California 49, Illinois 17 *in California*
Louisiana State University 38, Ohio State 24 *in Louisiana*
Of course this is an exceptionally good example, but it's a common theme that big-10 teams have the longest layoff, travel the farthest, and play an absurdly high number of de facto road games (but never any home games) in the bowl season.

I created a FTR group for the bowl pick'em on yahoo. You pick all 34 bowl games and rank them from 1 to 34 based on how confident you are on that game. The game you rank #1 is worth 34 points and the game you rank 34th is worth 1 point. This is just for fun and anyone can join. Just login to yahoo and go to the pick'em page: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/bowl then create your pick set and join the FTR group.

You guys need to stop hating on the ACC just because ESPN loves to hate on the ACC. It's obvious that they're brushed aside when they're clearly better than the Big East and Pac-10 this year. And some rabid fans, I'm sure, would say they're not far behind the Big Ten.
When you take a dump on the ACC without knowing better, the BCS wins!

Ok, we sucked this season...but as much as the BCS and NCAA fucks us over like every year, everyone should give the Hokies a break.
16 straight bowl appearance and theres what? like 2 others teams that can say that
And Spenda your predics and analysis is pretty spot on...i agree (except for Motor City Bowl comment...low blow homie)

I'm going to agree with you after looking over their schedule, I'm also THANKING JESUS that Iowa upset them otherwise we'd be watching Penn State vs OU in the nat'l title game....bleh
Of course, that might have left us with an UF vs UT Fiesta bowl, which would be sick.

Ohio State had Penn State beat. You can think we both suck but PSU is not a lot better than OSU. If we're stuck with bowls it's too bad they can't get a committee to focus on matchips rather than let all the bowls select. I would really like to see OSU vs VaTech or UC just to see where we are at.

I just know the team well since my roommate is from PSU and we watched every game this year. They did not show up to the Iowa game and it cost them a BCS appearance. If Clark shows up to play USC is in for one hell of a match against PSU's defense.

i agree that the USC offense vs PSU defense will be a sick matchup, but PSU offense will struggle against USC's defense, which will decide the game. def. routing for the big 10 team though.

Lots of long posts... and just skimmed, but I'm pretty sure they set up the BCS games as they do to eliminate (as much as possible) any discussion of a co-nat'l champ... Hence why there is no UT v Bama.
That being said... I like the Nat'l Championship game as it is. I'd rather see a UT v OU rematch than a UT v UF game, but I'm a Big 12 homer... so that's probably heavily biased.
OSU getting in makes me want to barf. That by far is the most offensive aspect of this year's BCS. I'd much rather see Boise St in the mix, playing VTech, let Cincy play Utah, Bama can be blown out by Texas, and.. I won't bother speculating about PSU and USC cuz they are tied in with conferences.
AWESOME page of final Coaches poll, just drag mouse of a coach or a team..

there are conference tie ins, then money. the bowls don't care if there is controversy. In your example, the sugar gets the best SEC team not in the title game, and the fiesta gets the big 12. I think if those teams are not the champs they can take someone else in the BCS pool, but in this case with bama and texas the bowls want those teams.

The argument is that Bradford has more weapons than McCoy or something. I don't even know what the criteria for the award is. I'm assuming it's supposed to go to the best player but I'm not really sure how you're supposed to determine that meh. It's all politics anyway.

Best player in CFB in terms of translating to the NFL level is obv Crabtree, not even close imo.
If Tebow wins this thing (and each day it looks more and more like it could happen) we all just need to give up if we don't root for an SEC team, because they get the benefit of the doubt every fucking year no matter how mediocre their conference is.

also, since we're poker players and the saying, "any given sunday" basically spells out that football is a high variance game, wtf do we care how many loses and who they were to?
What if USC lost to Florida but it was because USC's running back fumbles the ball while having a heart attack and it's returned for a Fla touchdown?
You'd think we'd atleast be capable of looking at the substance of a team not all the sparkly layman hype potential.

its laughable that okl is going to the championship over teams like texas usc bama etc.. their super hyped once again and the heisman was rigged.. Tebow hands down should have won it and now I consider it to mean nothing because it surely isnt based off the best player and leader in the nation.

it's not laughable. What's funny is that the Big 12 is so overhyped. Last year, the big east was much worse than the ACC, but because the Beast lacked any defenses throughout the league, they constantly had over hyped teams ranked as high as 2 (UCF).
This year, it's the big 12 but for better reasons. Offense is just sexy. The SEC is really the only league that does it right. Schedule and perform well out of conference, have balanced teams, and shit on everyone equally. If any bowl deserved an autobid, it would the the SEC to the NC game.
That said, I'm confident that if you took the best big 12 (Texas, Mizzou, Nebraska, TT, OK) teams and the best ACC teams (Miami, VT, GT, FSU, fuck BC) this league would have as much parody as the ACC and Big 12 alone. And yet, the Big 12 is at the top of conference lists and the ACC is at the bottom.
This isn't a nut-hugging ACC post and it's not meant to shit on the big 12. Though it does both pretty well. It's just that I really wish VT played in the SEC.

It's funny that I thought that if Tim Tebow won, it's because writers love the idea of him being the greatest college football player of all time. Since he's always coming back next year, it makes for entertainment of the highest order.
Now that I see that Bradford won, I can't help but think that made the worst pick out of the 3 and Tebow should always be picked over the kid with downs.

I'm thinking Colt saying he was returning for his Sr. Year before voting was over was a big mistake.
