Quick catch-up for people who don't know: My girlfriend (Chelle here on FTR and in IRC) has had a non-epileptic form of seizures for the past 9-10 months. They are a result of uber severe problems with anxiety and stress management that manifests itself physically for whatever reason. If you're interested to know more, check the Wikipedia entry for conversion disorder.
I'm pretty tired from 3-4 hours of sleep in the past 3 days or so and so I'm going to give the short version of what's going on. She had some new changes with her seizures which signaled to me that I was in over my head so I drug her to the ER at 2 am two nights ago. She's under observation now while they do a bunch of stuff and figure out what the deal is.
After having her right under my ass 24/7 (I have to watch her for her own safety etc) for almost the past year straight since her seizures started, this is the first time I've been away from her for more than 2-3 hours straight. I get to visit her twice a day for about 60-90 minutes each time, once around lunch time and once later in the evening. They expect for her to be in there another 3-7 days, just depending on what happens.
Just thought I'd give a heads up so you can be all like get well soon or whatever.
Brag: Lately she's been down to having only 3-4 episodes a week, and when they first started it was like 5-8 a day.
Beat: I'm so tired it's taken me 45 minutes to type this but I can't fall asleep and stay asleep.
Variance: Because of the specifics of what happened (which I can't really get into here), she scared me so badly that I was trembling, except I didn't "feel" scared, just a heightened sense of awareness. Which was fucking weird.

I woke up late and I've got to leave in like 2 min and I'm still in my underwear but here's a quick update. First a small amount of history to understand the context:
She's had like insane anxiety issues since we was really really little (I'm talking like pre-kindergarten). To give you an idea, before I first met her she was having pretty severe panic attacks at least 2-3 times every single day for about 5-6 years. She finally got her some help and with the assistance of a small amount of medication (something like 10mg of Paxil once a day at night) got it under control to the point that it was like a mild panic attack once every 2 weeks or so.
That was almost a decade ago, and until this point her medication had never been checked to see if it was even doing anything anymore. We've known the whole time that her anxiety was a big contributor to her seizures, but we've always been told that her medication was doing its job, even though there was never any sort of testing done to confirm this. While this seemed retarded to me (for example, her weight has nearly doubled since she was first prescribed Paxil), I always had to trust the doctors or whatever.
So of course, the first thing said after her first round of tests and stuff in this center she's in was the equivalent of "lol medicationaments" since the level she was taking was basically doing jack shit. Right now they've upped her level of Paxil and are trying her on low levels of something else I don't remember. She's going to be under observation and getting regular tests and things of that nature to make sure it's not having some sort of unwanted affects, then when she gets out in a couple of days (could be as early as tomorrow) she'll be working with someone regularly to keep it in check.
Variance: I think one of her doctors thinks I'm a compulsive gambler because they acted weird when she answered the question "so what does your boyfriend do for a living?"
Cliff notes: Her medication was playing 5nl on a 400nl bankroll aka not even putting a dent in shit. She's getting the testing and stuff she's needed since before she was a teenager.

Surely they don't think there's some correlation between that and her seizures tho?

It's an obvious point to investigate at least briefly when you're trying to figure out why someone has so much anxiety and stress in their life, so I don't blame them at all. Often they've also asked more questions about her dad once they've found out he's a reverend.

The part of the hospital or whatever she's in doesn't allow it. They also don't allow belts, shoes with shoelaces, or visitors to go into the patients' rooms -- you have to stay in this common area. It's that kind of thing. It's not like a psych ward but it's like 2-3 notches down in terms of the security involved. They don't allow that kind of stuff because some of the people in that unit are being treated for depression and are at risk to attempt suicide or whatever.

Good luck to the both of you and I hope this bad moment can lead to a better long term solution. Anxiety disorders are unfortunately more common than you think (although hers seem very severe) but can be treated.
