Yeah a 2-1 22 inning game isn't going to be exciting.

RANT: I'm sick of all the baseball bashing, not only on this forum but from people in general who dismiss it as a boring game. The sport itself isn't an action oriented sport but if you're watching baseball for just action, you're missing the point. You really need to understand the nuances of the game in order to appreciate baseball. Imagine if the average person turns on a baseball game and witnesses a 11 pitch at bat where the batter fouls off 7 pitches and eventually draws a walk. Boring right? Well, a baseball fan sees a great piece of hitting where the batter works the count and makes the pitcher expend 11 of his generally alloted 100 pitches and forces the team in the field to think about getting the usually shaky bullpen ready.

Like poker, baseball is all about the big picture. Is one hand of poker where the CO raises and steals the blinds exciting? No of course not. Is one average game of baseball exciting? Usually not. But poker players would classify poker as exciting just like baseball fans would say baseball is exciting.

baseball is fun to watch in the post season, and boring to watch in the regular seasons, for similar reasons as nba, except its twice as bad, because they have 162 games.

Srsly Bob, I actually like baseball. I nap through it like I do when I'm watching the Saturday action in a PGA event.

Baseball lost me with the payroll situation. I enjoyed following baseball and watching the occasional game (good write-up can be found here:
http://deadspin.com/353582/the-final...ng-sports.html
(wtf's up with the [url] tags?)

The problem is that every offseason the top players go to the same teams: Yankees, RedSox, Mets, Dodgers, Tigers (used to be Oriels). I got tired of rooting for the young guys coming up, watching them develop into good players, then leave in FA for a bigger market with deeper pockets.

If they level the field I might at least start reading game write ups, who knows where that would lead.

Baseball is off the hook, the game is a great sport and there is nothing better than going to a game with a bunch of buddies and tailgating.

swig it's a lot more about bad owners/farm systems/luck than money, note how many of the teams you list have won titles this decade. I'm pretty confident the Reds could spend 180M every year and still stink, although they might win the central by default.

and the point is, that is how you get better. But they still have lots of time to trade those guys away for bullpen help later this year.

I like how this thread disintegrated into a discussion of the Reds' farm system. It always makes me happy when a thread about something I don't like turns into a conversation about something really boring.

You know, my attitude will change completely if the Jays go anywhere this year. I'm such a fckn bandwagon jumping homer.

I'm saying the Reds could spend 180MM next year and be awesome in 2010. 180MM payroll gets you competitive every year instead of a every couple year's.
See Marlins, Twins, Oakland, Arizona vs. Boston, New York.

I don't see Cinci trading Cueto, Voloquez, Bailey, Bruce, Votto, et al. anytime soon. That core could be great for years to come.

I personally love the sport. I will watch live, on TV, in a bar, on a phone. I think the nuances are so interesting. Match ups, pitching duels, slug fests, double switches, hit & runs, suicide squeeze. The game at it's best doesn't get any better.
Speaking of the pitcher/hitter battle, did anyone see Ankiel's 17 pitch at bat against Villenueva the other night. Epic for a baseball geek like me.
Playing live . . . thanks alot Bin Laden.

This is true.

My point was that I like following a sport more than just watching games on TV (which baseball blows on TV unless it's the playoffs, and is fun live). I can't follow baseball in the offseason because the smart middle market teams lose all their players to the big market teams. Either trading for younger talent, or losing straight up through free agency. No interest there.
