I'm looking for some good background audio to listen to while playing poker. Something thats relaxing that you can just play in the background without it distracting. possibly
classical (though i've never listen to classical before)
Nature sounds
holosync type audio...

nothing too expensive... any suggestions?

thanks

listening to music while playing poker is great, just listen to something that you are used to and that you know well.... sometimes listening to newer stuff or stuff that you don't really know kind of puts you off,

www.1.fm streaming radio stations -- every genre you can think of. Classical, rock, techno, whatever.

Also the new AIM comes with XM radio streaming for free. Theyve got a huge selection, but the quality is less than amazing.

I highly recommend anything 'smooth jazzish'. The AIM thing has a station called "Classical 101" which is the more famous of the classical pieces. Good stuff.

I like to listen to clasical i don't really know it very well just downloaded some shit off of limewire, I chose that because there have been studies done that came up with some evidence of clasical music increasing your cognative abilities, but I think non vocal music is really good for concentration

I just tried this today, amazing. This is exactly what you're looking for thnwkd.

I like ambient techno when I'm studying, playing poker, etc. You could start a channel with "LTJ Bukem" if you are interested.

Do I have recommendations? hehe.. how long a list you want?

I dont really dig the "smooth" jazz thing so much, but it can be funky. For straight up funk/jazz, man you cant go wrong with Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley ( my hero!), John Scofield's more recent stuff is Very funk-ified, Larry Goldings. For more classic, soul/funky jazz from the 60s- Cannonball Adderley, Les McCann . And of course one of greatest Funk/Jazz bands ever, east bay's own Tower of Power is a choice you couldnt go wrong with..That should get ya started..

I dont much like jazz, however guru from gangstarr did some jazz thing that he raped over, I thought it was fresh. As for classical, I really do like it, but I have none, I think I might download a bunch and make it its own playlist. The reason being, rock and hiphop can mix just fine if you ask me, even that kenny rogers song fits in fine, but if some baehoven (sp?) suddenly popped up on itunes shuffle after some N.W.A. it would be a bit weird.

I think it would be cool, but I like alot of kinds of music!! I wrote an arrangement for a brass quintet that was played last weekend in Oakland by a group ( 2 trombones, tuba, 2 trumpets, drums, vocals) that goes from Hip Hop ( no lie!), to Led Zepellin, to Jazz, to Bach ( Classical), to african high life, to reggae all in the same concert.

I know what you mean, but classical tracks are often pretty long, so it would also kinda break things up in a awkward way. As my libaray is, theres no more then 5 minutes ftmp of any one thing, but then suddenly having like 15-20 minutes of classical might be kinda weird.

My favourite album right now is entitled American Yodelling 1911-1946 and it does pretty much what it says it does. Not sure it's ideal for poker - how about some Stereolab? Spacemen 3? Something repetitive to help you get in the zone?
