Ok....say everything goes bunk...Party bans US players...Neteller and Firepay won't transfer US money to a gambling site, gambling sites become unreachable to US folks.....yada yada.

What's the workaround going to be?

**If internet access gets denied that's an easy work-around using a proxy server located outside the US.

What's the work-around money-wise. There's gotta be one.

Establish a checking account in another country and use Neteller with a fake residency?

Some smarty pants must have a work-around all planned out already.....I'm just wondering what it is.

Anyone have any insight on this? I don't feel like playing homegames or driving 50 minutes to Foxwoods everytime I want to play cards.

Let's say I have a friend who has a 2nd house in Austrailia. I was thinking about opening a checking account with an Aussie bank, and claiming to reside with him in Sydney when I open it. Any chance this could work?

50 minutes isn't so bad. The closest place to me is Atlantic City which is 2.5 hours from here (they offer free bus rides to and from though, so it's not that bad).

To actually answer your question though, the best I could come up with is what you just said (i.e. foreign checking accounts).

I guess you could also try using opening an account with a really small local bank. A bank like this probably doesnt have the resources to do implement an in-depth enforcement strategy of the bill. They also aren't especially motivated to implement this because it's unlikely they'll get caught performing a few transactions to poker rooms or to money-transfer systems affiliated with poker rooms. It can't hurt to try in any case--the worse that could happen is that they'd decline your transaction.

1. Use Western Union

Appearently Western Union transfers money through foreign country to poker sites?
Never used it, but that is what I have been told.

2. Open a froreigjn bank account

This may or may not work. Will foreign banks transfer money to poker sites for US residents? This seesm unclear to me.

Well, the foreign bank wouldn't be moving it to a poker site for a US customer, I'm talking about still using Neteller only with my foreign checking account and foreign residency details.

It's not the drive or quality of the game that really matters to me, it's the fact that my hourly rate is going to go to hell because I can't mutitable. Playing only one live table at a higher stake to make up for the bb/hr difference isn't the proper solution bankroll wise.

Anonymising your ip address when acccessing web sites is one thing, but doing the same with a poker program is far more difficult. You would have to use something like FreeCap & use SOCKS proxies. Finding working/reliable SOCKS proxies is a nightmare - you would have to use a
SOCKS 4/5 scanner to scan ip ranges to find them & risk getting into trouble with your ISP, who frown on such activity.

Setting up banking accounts in another county would be difficult alone, and i'm sure everyone can see this. But your still playing out of the USA. If the poker rooms wanted to make sure that US citizens are not playing at the real money tables, banning American ip addresses would be easy for them to do.

So, you would now be claiming to be playing from outside the USA if you anonymised the program. You are now in the territory of players who collude & team and who try setting up fake accounts.

It depends on how far the poker rooms take things and what measures they implement. For the serious player, i think there could be possible solutions as regards to the funding of acounts as the months go by. The ip address issue may be even more difficult to overcome.

I work for a global networking company and many security engineers have assured me this would be an easy work around, it's the banking work-arounds that scare me the most by far.

Thanks for the insight just the same, I hear ya, it sucks!

Miffed22001 is on a distinguished road
either move or get someone to set up a foreign account for you as a third party.

If they really want to stop US online players, simply setting up an account in france and depositing from the U.S is traceable and so is any means of funding it except actually having someone else hold the account for you.

I don't think they will ban by ip, because that would prevent all non-US citizens accessing the poker site from the US. Most likely you won't be able to open the account with a US address nor fund it with money from US banks. Neteller will probably not allow transferring money to a poker site for a US customer. Im sure there will be ways around this, but the extra hassle will just deter all the recreational\fishy players who can't be bothered.

Problem will be getting the money back into the US without attracting the attention of the tax man (for high stakes players).
