We feed things that look like that and are called biscuits to dogs. We don't eat dog food.

ok... what do you call what I would call a cookie? (If you can make any sense of that sentence).
ie, how do you distinguish between a "cookie" (biscuit) and a REAL cookie (ie, chop chips etc)

A biscuit is like a wonderful fluffy bread-type thingy that I eat at KFC all the time.
A cookie is a flatter thingy-mo-bopper whit like chocolate chips, macadamian nuts, or peanut butter in that shit.

Thats no biscuit... that looks like a scone to me.
Do a search on google images for "chcolate digestive", "rich tea bicuit" and "bourbon biscuit"..... these are what I consider biscuits.
Then try "maryland cookie" or "boasters cookie".... that is what I consider a cookie to be

It's a little known fact that it was actually the Boston Tea & Biscuits Party. Ever since, Americans have called them cookies.

Our biscuits are not sweets. They're essentially buttery, fluffy, flaky bread

After googling a bourbon biscuit and seeing they actually look like biscuits (dog biscuits). The maryland cookies looked like cookies as well.
I'd be willing to bet that american companies called their "biscuits" cookies because when you think of good cookies (gooey, warm) they're MUCH more appetizing than thinking of biscuits (dry, crunchy).
So, I'll concede that you guys probably have biscuits and cookies right when it comes to sweets.
