Small sample size. My Asian buddy is from Queens and is a Yankees, Lakers, Duke, and Vikings fan. I sign on to facebook this morning and BBickes is talking about how couch K did it for "them" again. He did not go to Duke and is from Michigan.
Discuss.
P.S. Ensign Lee lives in Texas so he does not count.

front running is definitely prevalent among black people. cowboys/yankees/lakers seem like the coolest team for them to cheer for. i pretty much have an aneurysm every time i see Black Thought in a yankees hat.

But then again I live in a big sports city, so most people I know just cheer for chicago teams.

You can root for someone local. I mean, root for Duke all you want. It's when you start referring to a team as we or us when you're not from there or went to school there that I start having problems. It's extremely aggravating when it's dbag teams like duke, yankees, and lakers. They have enough dbag fans from all over the globe; they don't need your help. might be true, one of my AZN friends on FB uses the "we" thing when he talks about the Lakers, Yankees, Colts, and Jayhawks. Brock Lesnar, GSP, and Manny Pacquiao are "his boys" too. Fucking kills me. I called him out one time about the Yankees (it was almost hard to check FB during the MLB playoffs last year because he got so bad), and he shot back with, "you don't even know, MAN, I was BORN in NY, raised until I was FIVE YEARS OLD, BEEN A FAN EVER SINCE. YOU KNOW HOW HARD THE 80'S AND EARLY 90'S WERE? WE DESERVE THIS GREATNESS."
looking at it from a diehard Kansas City Fan (GO ROYALS AND CHIEFS WOOHOO), it might not be half-bad to become a bandwagon fan. Unlike me, you'd always have someone to root for, maybe?

Yeah, sometimes I wonder about the merits of being a 'real fan' vs. a frontrunner.
I mean, when you're like UG with his chiefs now or me and spenda back when we went 2-14 and had people everywhere going "OMG CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DIDN'T DRAFT VINCEYOUNG/REGGIEBUSH AND GOT MARIO WILLIAMS", it pretty much *really* sucked. Especially since I lived in Austin.
Now that that particular decision looks better and the Texans are doing better, are those same people going "Wow, good call ensign_lee. Maybe the Texans aren't that bad." ? No, silence.
But you know those same deutschebags are going to sit there and say "Yay for us! Yay for the Texans. We did it!" if/when we finally do well. And you know what? They're going to enjoy it. Maybe not as much as I will, but pretty close.
Hell I remember bandwagoning on the astros that year we finally made it to eh world series. Wasn't really an astros fan during most of those years, but the trip through the playoffs sure was fun. And I didn't have to be all depressed when the Astros sucked.
Sometimes I feel like the risk/reward ratio favors being a frontrunner. All of the gains, none of the losses. It seems like the EV of happiness favors being a frontrunner...by a lot.

Life as a sports fan would definitely be better (or maybe easier is the right word?) without all of the heartache. I wish I could be a bandwagon guy quite often, and root for teams that are not my own. If "my" team wins, "I win," and who doesn't like winning? I'm jealous of those that have winners to root for (bigred comes to mind here with the Patriots, BoSox, and more recently the Celtics). Some day my Kansas City teams will get there--at least that's the hope.
I'm such a homer/dork that this year (and every year) I wear my Royals polo on opening day to school. I start out class with a "big announcement," stating that this is a beautiful day and the Royals are officially tied for first place in the American League Central. My happiness only last for a few seconds because some jackass will point out they haven't played any games yet, or the obvious truth that they have absolutely no chance in hell of making it to the playoffs, but a man can dream...

My football team (soccer) at Uni played against Asian Students FC in some random league.
They all wore brand new Man Utd kit, most of them had on David Beckams Addidas boots and generally all looked like complete tits.
They were also fking terrible. If I remember rightly we beat them 14-0.
Plus they're keeper was only about 5ft and got lobbed a few times. Asian goalies just ain't gonna catch on.
We had a Kenyan at my Uni halls - he supported: Man Utd and Brazil in football. Aussies at cricket. All Blacks at rugby. No shame. But if you're from Kenya WTF you gonna do?
