my wife was watching Hope Floats the other day and said that camera Bullock was using was great - Something about an 8mm and how it takes wide pictures with a classic look....I looked on ebay and only found 8mm Movie Cameras - all were cheap and they all basically said "as is" so I'm not sure if they were selling them just for collectables or what -

Would anyone know anything about this kind of camera and what it might cost me to get one? I am trying to do something thoughtful, but i need help

thanks

Ok. I actually know a little about this subject.

There are two main 8mm film formats; Regular and Super 8.

Here is a pic comparing the two... you can see the differences:

Here is a Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8_mm_film

As you can guess by looking at the picture above, the two formats require different cameras and different projectors. They are NOT interchangeable.(I cannot stress this enough)

If you are looking to obtain and use equipment, then Super 8 is probably your best bet. Cameras, projectors, and film are fairly easy to get, and Super 8 is easier to work with than regular 8mm.

Here is a website with more information than I can give you:
http://home.pacbell.net/mnyberg/super8mm/
It covers just about everything you could want to know about Super 8 filming and equipment. It also has a good section on Regular 8 mm too.
I have no sig. Quit looking down here.
