Does anyone hear watch TED videos every week? If you haven't heard of TED, it will probably really open up your mind to check it out. http://www.youtube.com/user/TEDtalksDirector has 350+ videos, and they come out with 3-4 new ones per week.
For those looking to watch a few and don't know where to start, I suggest Anthony Robbins, Jill Bolte Taylor, Richard Dawkins, and Hans Rosling just to name a few.
Basically, this is what TED is in a nutshell: "Inspired talks by the world's leading thinkers and doers." TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Almost every single talk I have watched has captivated me tremendously, whether it be about life, motivation, poverty, the internet, the universe, to even ants. Every single speaker should deliver an extraordinary speech because the expectations are very high.
I know Warpe watches them every now and again, but are their any other ted-heads? As soon as I began watching them I immediately went to go see how I could go to a conference. Well, just for one ticket it is $6,000, not including any travel costs, so that is a tad bit expensive for now.
I just got an e-mail about a live webcast of TED 2009, which takes place February 4-7. This is the first year they are doing this. However, the price is still a little extreme by what a normal person may expect to pay for a conference at $995. 10 people are allowed to view the webcast at a time, so it isn't so bad if it would be possible to get 10 people to pitch in. Also, the $995 includes some special gifts which would only go to the registered user, so I wouldn't expect anyone to pay for that as well. Also, this is for a 4 day conference, not just a few hour long event. It would be somewhere between $80 - $90 if I am able to find 9 other people.
Just thought I'd throw the idea out there, also membership is subject to approval, so the sooner the better.
Limited to 10 people max, first come first serve!

zee name is givememyleg (Ishpeming) but you don't have to ship anything until it is going to be ordered for sure. I'm not going to order until we get at least 6-7 people.

Here is what comes with the membership:
At $995, it makes a truly special holiday gift. The Associate Membership lets you:
+ Watch a live web stream of the TED2009 conference (Feb 4-7, 2009)
+ Share the webcast with up to 10 friends in one room and create your own private TED experience
+ Receive an exclusive DVD box set of the complete conference
+ Enjoy TED Book Club mailings five times a year. An inspired set of books, CDs, DVDs and/or other surprises will arrive on your doorstep (often before they are available to the public). Past books have included An Inconvenient Truth, The Earth From Above, Predictably Irrational, What Matters, The Black Swan, The Bottom Billion, The Happiness Hypothesis, The Long Tail and The Invention of Hugo Cabret. We've also sent music from TED performers Herbie Hancock, Jill Sobule and Vusi Mahlasela, and DVDs such as Deborah Scranton's The War Tapes and Jehane Noujaim's Control Room.
+ Delight in special gifts from our partners
+ Enjoy enhanced social networking on TED.com
+ Get advance notice of conference registration, ahead of the general public*
... And a surprise or two!
So I guess a DVD Box Set, some books, and some special gifts?
I guess I should make a list of people interested.

I'm assuming that means like a private chat room or something.

Note: You will be given one private log-in name, and only one IP address (one computer) will be permitted to access the live stream.

well so much for this idea. kind of silly how they limit the private showings in one's home to 10 people... seemed like such a weird concept that i assumed it was 10 people in a private chat room.
gg bubbye.
