I bought a new 500meg RAM memory thingymajiggy for my laptop today.
I checked its compatible before i bought it, so i dont think thats the problem, but once i install it into the open port/dock in my machine i get a shitload of error's and crashes.
It boots up most of the time (but i do get blue screens and it crashes and i have to reboot) plus it will randomly just quit programs or blue screen and crash and reboot. Earlier i just couldnt even get I.E or firfox to work or even load up.
Its like ive installed it and it works, but its installation is causing errors in every original program i had installed on my system.
Anybody offer any help? ive been on google all day and cant find anything other than i *might* need some new drivers which i cant find anyway.
I havent a clue what the prob is.
I used a program called belarc online to figure out my machine but it just says the memory is installed, even though im crashing every ten mins or so.

Are you using it with another memory stick? Are they not matching pairs?

have a 256 and a 512 (correct numbers)
Ive tried my comp with the original stick and it works fine, but as soon as i have both or just the new 500meg stick in i get lots of crashes.
Im still sure its compatible, but any ideas on how i would know if it isnt compatible?

There are no drivers for ram. Since it isn't working, I'd say it's either a bad stick, or not compatible. Only other thing to try is the larger stick in the 1st ram slot and the smaller in the other slot.

before you lock this thread where does it go on the lap top? I have a Dell Inspiron 6000
I just checked the DELL website, they have 1GB for $149.us
Will I notice a big difference? And is $149 a good deal?

1 gig of RAM is a huge differnce. IMHO RAM is the best to upgrade if you are looking for cheap price/speed upgrade ratio. Its relatively cheap and will give your computer a good boost.
I say go for it.

Yeah, I checked the DELL website, they have a forum thread also, everyone there recommended the 1gb.
So I bought it, when it comes in I'll update.
