So I just moved. My new roomie has a linksys router. The router is configured to WPA with private key. The software with my wireless card (a D-Link DWL-650+) doesn't support WPA so I have to use the windows software. My software says the signal strength is 94 (out of a 100), the windows software says the signal strength is 1 bar out of 5, thus the internet is much slower than normal.
At school I also use WPA through the school's network with no problems.
Tomorrow I'm going to try different encryption methods to see if that helps, just curious if anyone had any ideas/experience with this kind if problem.

I've had a similar problem with a Belkin card. WEP works fine but WPA struggles. I'm still investigating, so I'll let you know if and when I get anywhere.
The one thing I would say is make sure you have the latest drivers from the web.

Bah, they have the shitty basic 500kbs connection so I'm not limited by the router.
If I can get them to upgrade i'll post an update

I had the same problem with the WEP / WPA passwords. The fix is: Set your router's access list to only accept connections from certain MAC addresses. No more dealing with passwords. It works like a fucking *charm*.
