Your goalie tilted the hell out of me (of course ours tilted me more), he had an insanely hot game last night. It reminded me of the World Cup of Hockey tournament in 1996 when Mike Richter denied us no matter what we threw at him. It was definitely a fun game to watch though. Time to put in Lou to get us through the long long road ahead!

I was waiting for this thread. Brodeur's been questionable every game and I think Luongo deserves a start. This will be the raging Canadian debate.

No debate here, Brodeur is the old guard and after last game I think it's time.

as a flyers fan and a hater of all things jersey, my favorite part of the game was by far the fact that brodeur laid an egg

It was a pretty amazing game too. With the amazing Canadian offense making Miller look godly by comparison.

Luongo in his home city will be better than Miller for the remainder of the tournament.

Yeah... I wasn't gonna volunteer to open up this thread. But here we are, and here's my $0.02:
On Brodeur: I was shocked to hear he'd be starting the Canada-USA game after his ho-hum performance against Switzerland - a game we could have won 2-1 or 2-0 without much fanfare, even with 2/3rds of our lineup playing what can generously be referred to as pick-up hockey. Switzerland has one NHL regular,a defenseman originally selected by the Habs in the seventh round of the '04 draft named Mark Streit. He's actually not bad, can definitely work a PP and owns a wicked point shot... but that's all Switzerland has to speak for. Well, that, and a guy named Pluss who is pretty good but is literally the size of a garden gnome. For Marty to capitulate two goals in that game - one of which was a total gimme - speaks volumes. Why Team Canada's coaches opted for him over Luongo, I will never know.
On the game: Canada played its best game of the tournament, and that is not saying much. The US outskated Canada's supposedly mobile and physical defensemen and capitalized on every mistake. When Canada was able to apply pressure, Miller always made the first save and either froze the puck instantly or had it cleared it away by the US's active defense. Orpik and Suter especially stood out to me. All in all, a worst-case scenario for Canada in this game, as they weren't able to muster the offense needed to dig out of the holes they created for themselves on multiple occasions. True, the game might have gone the other way had Brodeur not let in so many softies - all but one of the four goals he allowed were either bad or downright terrible - but with a lineup as stacked as Canada's, you'd think they'd have the wherewithal to make up for it. Nope.
A sidenote on Canada's D: Pronger? Niedermayer? These guys, in my mind, are 5th and 6th behind Doughty, Seabrook, Keith and Weber. Also, how the fuck is Mike Green not on this team when he leads the entire NHL in scoring by a defenseman?
On to Germany, which will almost definitely be a pushover, which sucks because the team isn't going to learn shit by steamrolling them. The next real "test" is Russia on Wednesday. Based on what we've seen, I ain't gettin' my hopes up.

It's judged by mustache growth and broken limbs. I understand that the idea of a manly sport is foreign to GB, but don't be afraid. It has sissy parts. Like time-outs and intermission.

Tonight: Canada vs Russia, going to be an epic game.
Case of 12. Vietnamese girlfriend being subjected to hockey. No distractions.
We need to avenge Turin, where we met our fate at the hands of the dreaded russkies.
Apparently, some opinion poll (can't believe some company spent the tens of thousands of dollars needed for this, but however) shows that Canadians view the USA as our # 1 hockey rival. This is probably because of the back-and-forth, surprisingly intense, competitions we've had since 1996 beginning with the World Cup, through 2002 - and we know what happened that time.
Total bullshit though. Our history with the Russians goes back way further. And, talent-wise... You are likely to never see this amount of talent on one ice surface again for quite some time.
So, bring on #8, and Malkin, and whoever the fuck else's name ends in 'ov'.
Game time's 7:30 EST..
Oh, and there's a little USA - Switzerland (loser goes home!) game at 3:00 PM EST in case anyone's interested. I can't really hype that one up for you all though.

USA up now after 2 scoreless periods
Hiller (Swiss goalie) playing out of his mind
Switzerland needs to get more offense going to even have a chance
game is WAY closer than I expected - now you know why Canada went to OT / shootout vs these guys
g/l USA

haha, to be fair, the crowd has been rooting for the under dogs at nearly every occasion.. Belarus vs Slovakia, rooted for belarus... Czech republic vs Russia, rooted for the Czechs.. etc.
But the anti-USA bit cuz you kinda won a game against us might have somethin to do with it, lol.

It's funny because Hiller and Miller seem a little bit slower. Like they just calmly take up the ground and just lazily wave their arms in the way of shots. I'm so used to The Flower, Marc-Andre Fleury, sliding and flopping around these goalies almost seem like they're in slow-motion. Or a more purposeful motion.

Yeah I'll have to take away the "most epic game" label to tonight's Canada / Russia tilt
Wasn't even close. 7-3 Canada. Total ownage.
So, with the US's win over Switzerland, here's where we're at:
USA plays the winner of Finland / Czech Republic
Canada plays the winner of Sweden / Slovakia
And if we each win our games... Gold medal rematch, baby
