you bastards have me curious

1. wtf do calories do
2. all else being equal, if you lowered your calorie intake so that you burned more calories in a day than you take in, would you lose weight?

It isn't people are fucking lazy tho.

They want to eat w/e they want not exercise and lose weight. And there is a big market/advertising for these people.

I'm pretty sure, from a top level it is. Your body consumes X number of calories a day, you ingest Y calories. If Y>X you expect to gain mass, if Y<X you expect to loose mass.

Different foods have different effects, LDO. 270 calories off pure granulated sugar isn't the same as 3 hard boiled eggs.

Most people are experts at eating more than they think they are, exercising less than they think they are, and basal metabolic rate follows consumption up to a point.

2. it's not quite as simple as people make it out to be. take for instance your typical 'skinny-fat' person who thinks its a great idea to lose weight by eating once a day. metabolism slows, body goes into starvation mode and hords fat (bodies natural defence mecanism), sheds muscle (a disaster, but muscle is a liability in such a state because it greatly boosts metabolism, burns calories/fat, etc), and lots of other really horrible things.



I always tell people to try to work on being healthy and striving to improve body composition and to not worry so much about the number. of course nobody ever listens, so i kinda gave up on trying to help.
