I am a trombonist and composer , for those of you who don't know me, and I am working on the music for a series of episodes a writer/director friend in LA is producing himself. This may be the Alien theme/underscore
It came out pretty decently, with me adding live bass trombone on top of some synths... sound like scary alien music to you?

Its very nice, but its not x-files-esque
it reminds me more of a detective thing, like a dick tracy

I like the foundation, but imho the trombone gives it more of a mysterious vibe rather than the feeling of terror that I associate with alien encounters. More "look at that that strange light, let's go check it out" than "OH SHIT IT'S COMING RUUUUN". For scariness I'd look for something that makes your heart beat a little faster, perhaps a busier/less predictable main melody with some surprising accents or something.
Disclaimer: I'm not a composer

i think it works well for those scenes where you are trying to build tension.
Afterall, when the music comes on you KNOW (or shoudl do) that soemthing is about to happen.
Does it work as a theme tune? Sure, but you only need to have glimpses of what it is your representing as the guys say above, its like a mystery/surprise theme that works well if its used in the right context.
god, i just used knowledge from my major wtf?
