Absinthe is a lot of fun. The high is pretty unique, so it's difficult to describe, but it's definitely a euphoric sociable type of high (similar to THC). The hallucinations aren't full-out, but more like interesting visual changes and strange but pleasant bodily sensations (similar to a very low dose of shrooms). There's a definite stimulating effect too. Also while you're definitely getting drunk too because of the alcohol content, it's more of a lucid drunkeness than normal.
As far as obtaining it, you can do it the old-fashioned way and buy some wormwood, which contains the essential ingredient thujone, and brew it yourself. Anise seeds or oil can be good things to add too because they have chemicals that enhance the experience. And anything to counter the bitterness is good. It's actually a pretty simple process to do-it-yourself; I'm sure you can find out how online.
If you want to buy it, be aware that while most commerical absinthe (imported or otherwise) is just high-proof liquor mixed with food coloring, there are some places online where you can get real absinthe even if you live in the US. I don't remember where though. The name "Deva" rings a bell. Just make sure that whatever you buy lists a thujone content and anise content. If not, it's probably just fancy liquor.
Oh, and a legal note. In the US, it is completely legal to buy, possess, and consume absinthe. It is just illegal to sell it.

one of my friends and like 10 of his pals drank absinthe on halloween a few years ago. 10 guys in their twenties. they drank and spent some time in a sauna, drinking more. then they went out, and the morning after noone remembered A DAMN THING. none. nada. they heard from people that saw them that they had been walking around in the small town with blankets (with eye holes cut out) and just tried to be spooky.

My friend got a bottle from one of his friends who was an airline pilot. He hasn't opened it, but its the real deal. I'll need to update when I hit some off the bottle.
On a side not, if your looking hallucinate, you can get some Salvia divinorum on the internet. It's legal stuff the Indians use- Its a white sage plant.
You can look up a link, Have you ever done it, or done this? I think,on FTR and theres some more info.
