If you had to pick 5 movies that are your favorite, for whatever reason, what would they be? You don't have to list them in order, but do put some thought into it.
1. The Godfather - flawless on so many levels.
2. Citizen Kane
3. Apocalypse Now
4. Casablanca
5. The Shawshank Redemption

I think this is a pretty good representation of the sort of Movies I like. The original Matrix before sequels would have been on there. The thought of how awesome sequels could be plus how original and awesome the first movie was made it better.

Lots of good flicks here.... most would be in my top 20.
This is my top 5 at the moment... and if you asked me a week from now, it might change drastically...
Kill Bill
Gremlins (not sure why, but I have an unnatural love of this film)
LOTR: The Two Towers
The Big Lebowski
Shawshank Redemption
Man... so many good films I had to leave off.

Please explain the prestige. Spoilers in white.
I saw the Illusionist first thinking it was the Prestige. I ended up loving it then I watched the Prestige and thought it was really corny and poorly written. I figured out the final twist where they're twins once they introduced the teleporting man trick thanks to him saying that the old guy only acts crippled every day of his life to perform that fishbowl trick. Then the twist at the end is that Tesla invents a CLONING MACHINE?! After the Tesla machine, I lost all interested and really couldn't figure out what the fuck was going on. So please explain from there.

Ok, Prestige spoilers
I guess everytime he did the teleporting man trick using the tesla, it actually cloned him and he never knew if it was him or the clone dropping down into the tank or being the prestige (standing on stage getting the ovations). So every time he did that trick he actually killed a clone of himself. The guy that did the clone trick set up one of the twins but didnt know he had a twin obv.
I did like the illusionist better than the prestige and actually watched it because i thought it was the prestige, but you already listed it so i thought i would list the prestige.

I guess that makes sense. I just got so confused with that whole premise that it ruined the film for me. The Illusionist has an enchanting feel that is just fun to watch.

Semi-spoilage?
If you watch the directors commentary which I highly recommend, he says there are two ways to see the movie. On side A, he is magical and all of his tricks are inhuman. On side B, he is an extraordinary magician but without super powers. The director says that for side B, he tried to take old magic tricks and add one element that can not be explained. The orange tree has actual edible oranges. The mirror has the spirit floating out of the mirror. The dead people walking around off stage. And, of course, the sword trick.
It was based off an iron box trick where a kid would life a box high in the air, set it down and the magician would trigger an electromagnet under the stage. Then not even the most imposing audience member could move it an inch. If you watch the scene, you can hear a little shocking sound as Prince's sword is finally released to him suggesting he had used an electromagnet. Or electroMAGIC!

Cool list of movies so far. Quite the variety too.
I know listing five movies is almost impossible, that's kinda what makes the list interesting.
If I did keep going, I'd list:
The Maltese Falcon
Oliver!
Lawrence of Arabia
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Star Wars

hahaha.
You know...I once had a young actor tell me he wanted to "know movies better" and he asked me which movies he should watch. Which ones were good, must sees, classics, etc. I asked how many movies I should list. He replied, as many as I could. I came back the next day with 240 movies. Damn, I wish I had that list now 'cause there's no way I can think of 240 top movies or recreate that list.

The Godfather - Excellent. Great score, great direction, amazing performances, great storyline. Just good basically.
The Departed - Ok, so maybe the plot wasn't original, but this is still a sick film. Nicholson, DiCaprio and Damon all turn in wicked performances. Hell, even Ray Winstone does alright! Excellent direction as we've come to expect from Scorsese.
Memento - The archetypal film noir: dark, clever, intruiging. You need to be switched on to watch this, it has two parallel storylines running in opposite directions. This film also has sick replay value, you just keep picking new things up. Watch it.
Pulp Fiction - Predictable choice but hell, this is the best dialogue on any film ever. Also sick performances and sick direction make this a must see.
A Clockwork Orange - Love it. Dark and dreary yet utterly compelling. Can't really say much about this film, you just have to watch it I guess.
Watching these films will increase your quality of life by 2.4.
