I'm trying to decide between these two monitors:
HP LP3065 Black-Silver 30" 12ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor w/ USB2.0 & Height Adjustment
LG W3000H-Bn Black 30" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor
Anyone have any advice or personal experience with either or both of them?

Honestly the LG is better by a HUGE margin:
higher brightness
faster response time
contrast ratio (as stated already)
and this:
S-IPS/H-IPS (In Plane Switching) panels are generally considered the best overall LCD technology for image quality, color accuracy and viewing angles, but this comes at a price. They are well suited for graphics design and other applications which require accurate and consistent color reproduction. S-IPS panels offer the best viewing angles of any current LCD technology, with wide viewing angles up to 178 degress. The response time of S-IPS is adequate, ranging from 6ms to 16ms with current panels. This is only slightly slower than TN panels. However, gamers should take this into consideration. Fast paced games may suffer from motion blur or ghosting with S-IPS panels that have a response time higher than 8ms.
BBBBUUUUTTTT! The LG has a response time of 5ms songaming wouldn't be an issue ...

That's all very good apart form the fact most companies actually use different standards for testing contrast ratios. One company saying they are 3000:1 and the other saying 1000:1 does not actually mean the contrast ratio on the former is 3 times better than the latter.
Unfortunately there is no industry wide standard, so comparisions are useless.

Contrast ratio is the basically the range from the brightest white to the darkest black a monitor is capable of producing. Usually you take the cd/m2 and use this when comparing the contrast ratio. Basically it just means the LG will be brighter at its whitest point and has more ability/options when dimming.

I got the LG. Placed the order yesterday morning and got here this afternoon. Unfortunately, the base mounting screw won't align and I can't use it. It's like not even slightly off. It's like an entire screw length apart and the entire base is made to mount exactly, so it's not like there's any wiggle room. I'll have my brother look at it just in case I'm missing something, but that's pretty disappointing to say the least. Just another reason to remind myself not to care about anything or have any positive expectations ever :/

Yeah, I'm considering that. Where can you buy them?
Nice set-up, btw!

Yeah wall mounts are sick! Jyms my set up looks a lot like yours. You can pick up wall mounts from bestbuy for around 20-30 last time I checked (two weeks ago).

this is strange/unlucky. Both my LG screens slotted into their bases nicely. Isn't there some small button/lever you need to twist? this could be where your difficulty is?

Hrm, well, progress is being made slowly but surely. I went out and bought a wall monitor mount and installation went pretty smoothly for the most part. Then, I hooked it up and another hiccup surfaced. My GeForce 6800 graphics card was cutting edge in the Fall of 2004, but here in 2009, it's apparently not even advanced enough to supply me with the resolution I want. The best I can get is 1200 x 800 and I can still only 4 table and I seem to have more trouble reading text than I did with a smaller monitor :/ There are a few modes higher I can select, but for some reason, the monitor SCROLLS instead of displaying the entire screen. I've never even seen that before.
My computer only has PCI and AGP slots - no PCI Express. So, I went to NewEgg and ordered an AGP graphics card that supposedly supports a resolution with the DVI connection I need. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow. I hope it works and doesn't scroll, because I don't want to have to buy and build another computer just to support this monitor.

This is probably stupid but did the monitor come with a driver install cd and did you run it?
Alternatively do you have the updated drivers for your graphics card?

Yes, I did update the drivers on my monitor with the CD that came with it plus I updated my drivers from Nvidia.
