Starting 2nd season of Fringe. It's trashy but it's fun. Like a new xfiles.

A friend of mine strongly insisted that I gave Fringe a shot. By the 6th episode of the first season, I was convinced that every episode from here on out will be written the exact same way. It became redundant fast.

In other news, I began watching The Walking Dead. 5 Episodes in, really good.

Anyone have an idea when Breaking Bad will begin again?

you may or may not like it, but I can almost guarantee this won't be why.

for a while it becomes the opposite of the X files - you wish they'd just drop the main plot (doesn't really start until season 2) and just do side eps because the main story becomes a complete mess, but it has rallied nicely here by season 4 or 5 or whatever it's on.

It isn't a great show by any means but if you're a sci fi person I would stick with it.

The mad scientist character is great. I never tire of his inappropriateness. I agree the shows not amazing, but its entertaining enough.

Thirded, not great but well worth the watch.

Have to say I was really disappointed by The Walking Dead S02, getting nowhere fast.

Also, Person Of Interest is ok.

TWD is comically bad. I watch the show and participate in the MASSIVE thread on 2+2 just for the lulz. The majority of the thread is just mocking how absurdly bad the show is. I think the reason that I and many others still watch and laugh is due to the fact that the show could have been and could possibly still be really good so good with such minor changes.

How the hell is this an 8.7 on IMDB?

Fringe only got 8.5, which would have seemed about right based on most of the scores of TV series Id seen prior to TWD.

ya, everyone (in the OOTV thread) is baffled by the ratings this show gets. It's constantly breaking records.

Some have jokingly pushed forth the theory that the show is really written by a robot which is programmed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Which explains how the show is objectively so bad if you watch it with the slightest bit of a critical eye, yet it draws in the masses like no other. The more realistic theory is that the incompetent writers/editors have just luck boxed the perfect storm.

over the years, imdb ratings have gotten worse and worse. this is due to more access by younger/stupider people. so you have to look at other factors. one easy example is that superhero films are ALWAYS overrated, often by a lot. people are just in need for good ones, so when something decent comes along, they cream everywhere over it

TWD is the only zombie thing on TV and it's somewhat watchable, therefore everybody loves it. If it wasn't about zombies or post-apoc, but instead something like a high school drama, it wouldn't have gotten past 3 episodes

The ratings don't surprise me but the critical scores do. I think it's watchable but looking at some of the shows around 80 on meta critic it doesn't really compare with any of them.

Also, season 1 is rated slightly higher than season 2 which seems totally inexplicable.

I guess end of day I'm glad it's doing well, we need more horror shows on TV.

All that said, it was worth it just for the Mad Men TWD themed trailer.

The problem with TWD is that they never approach the problems in an interesting way. Every choice they seem to make is in the name of drama. They never seem to be making any real tactical decisions facing the zombie invasion.

Zombie down a well? Better tie a rope around someone and lower him in... oh noes drama!

It's an interesting problem to solve - a zombie in your water supply.

Dramatic discussion about killing some hostage - awesome. Walk outside and get surprise mauled by a zombie. How are you not more prepared for this shit!?

    I see now.

Just started season 3 and it is really annoying me. The main reason is that I hate knowing something that the main characters don't as you just end up watching them bumble their way along waiting for them to catch up with what you know so the story can continue.

I think that for a show/movie/w/e to have characters not knowing something important that the viewer knows it needs to be a much higher quality for it to remain interesting.

yeah I agree. I can't remember what exactly happens when, but there were a couple points I almost stopped watching.

at this point the plot is so infected with time stream shifts/universe jumping/time travel (yes, those are all different things that have happened! (more than once!)) it seems unlikely we can ever go back to where it all started, I have just decided to let go and let god. but individual eps have been pretty good this year.

breaking bad speculation in white. im pretty positive im not wrong on this

the waitress in the first ep arranging walt's bday bacon is proof that skyler is dead because she was always supposed to do it. so basically walt kills skyler. also walt dies at the end, that's what the gun's for. he holes up and probably kills several cops or something before they gat him

also the newsroom is pretty goddamn awesome

I only gave up on it like a week ago, was watching on Netflix. The beginning of that season has like some minimal excitement w/ the plane collision but ffs GET ON WITH THE PLOT. It takes like 4 eps to explain how bad that crash sucked and basically went nowhere else w/ ANYTHING.

Guess I'll give it another shot.. :/

About halfway through season 1 of Mad Men. Seriously slow shit. It gets better... right?

got to like season 3 of mad men, confirmed you do not need to watch this show. it's slow and it's not good. none of the characters are likable, and there's very little to keep your interest going.
