Always wanted to make an ***official thread***

Basically I'm so excited at the thought of Rooney and Whore Dutchmen up front I just had to post about it.

Is he a risk due to age and injury record? Yes he is.
Has he only really had one good season so far? Yup!
Did we overpay for a 29yr old with 1yr left on his contract? Yeah.
Do I give a Shit? Nope, not my money.
Am I excited by it? Fuck yeah!

Also, if anyone is interested, I'm up for a wager. The way we do it at work is every week you predict the score for all of the weeks premiere league games, you get 3pts for a correct score, 1pt for a correct result. Run a league for the season. It takes far less time and effort than fantasy football and it tends to be much closer. Last season on the last day 3 people had a realistic chance of winning so was pretty good.

Anyone up for it? Maybe 10 bucks each?

Blues didn't get promoted, the Prem doesn't matter again this year.

Birmingham fan ongbonga? Swansea fan here, think we've got enough to just about stay up if we can hold onto Sinclair for the whole season, Laudrup looks like a good manager.

I'd be up for a wager in the 2nd half of the season but I tend to lose interest over summer and takes me a couple of months of the season to get interested again.

Mad that there are no 3pm matches live on TV, going to watch them live on streams anyway but it's not the same as watching in HD on a big TV or in the pub

Yeah I'm a dirty Brummie, hoping we can have a good season. We picked up Lee Clarke as our manager after Hughton left, think he's as good as we can expect for a club of our stature. Certainly prefer him over Ince or Keane, the other people who were in the frame. He's got the fans' backing. Play offs minimum target once again if he wants to maintain that support.

I didn't realise you guys got Laudrup, he's quite a scoop for you guys. I like the Welsh so it's nice to see a Welsh team in the Prem, hope you guys stay up. I see you guys have picked up Johnathan De Guzman on loan, he's quite a prospect and is at the age now where he should hit his peak, I'd be excited about him if he came to Brum.

Prefer Swansea to Cardiff just because Twin Town is such an awesome film. Now go and win the FA cu-P so you can have triangular flags.

Looking forward to the new season. Might be up for a ten bucks wager over the season, so long as whoever is keeping the monies safe is trustworthy, ie a 1000+ reg poster or a mod.

Well, dream starts for Swansea, West Brom and Fulham. Willbur and WHU too.

I think Man U will take it and the Championship will be between Bolton and Cardiff. Sheff Utd and Rotherham strong faves in the other leagues.

We (Saints) kick-off at the Etihad tomorrow. We're favourites for the drop but, trust me, we'll be okay, lay us for relegation and make some easy money. Tough start mind - Wigan, United and Arsenal follow City - so there could be value in getting on after tomorrow. Very nice run-in though, 8 or 9 winnable games at the end.

It's cool, my ex-flatmate/good friend was a big Birmingham fan! Hughton was a boss manager, not surprising he ended up going up to the Premier League.

Glad you "like the Welsh" Definitely hoping we can stay up, amazing first day and Michu is looking amazing. Apparently he was Laudrup's signing so a lot of respect for him already Twin Town is an awesome film, watched it far too often.

City is always a hard opening match - then again, it's a hard match any time of the season. I'm not decided on whether getting it away with at the start of the season is better than it ruining morale half way through a run of good results, but it'll be interesting to see what the score is. Swansea lost 4-0 to City on the opening day of last season and it still worked out OK Then again, Bolton beat QPR 4-0 on the first day of last season and got relegated

Baggies made my day. Thought Liverpool might come back after the penalty save, but fortunately not.

Haven't seen any highlights yet, but I hear carloza(?) Looked good.

Gutted for Hughes and the hoops, have a soft spot for them, awful start, but hopefully Bosingwa will make a difference, I figure him and Park isn't a bad midfield pairing.

Also, have you seen Liverpool opening 5 games? Man City, Arsenal, Sunderland, Man Utd.

It's feasible, maybe even likely, that Liverpool could be bottom of the league with between 0 & 3 points after the first 5 games. Wouldn't wanna be in Brenden's shoes if that happens.

Twin Town is in my top five all time favourite films. I could quote the entire script happily. I still shout "fuckiiin aaad you" in a bad Welsh accent at people regularly.

    Also, vinland speaks the truth.

    Yay West Ham!

I think Van PurseStrings could go either way...
He could be like he's been at Arsenal - mainly injured and a bit part player, apart from one great season
Or....be great, stay fit and score bucket loads of goals.
I think (and hope I guess) its the former.

But yay, football season, ya West Ham won!

Oh and Kevster - i think Southampton are a solid team. I want you to do well. But I think it may be a step too far for your manager. Hope he does the business though. If he does well - England????

Are we in for another decade of So'ton barely avoiding relegation every year? Just need Coventry back and it's the 90's all over again.

I think there are parallels to be drawn between Dave Brailsford and Adkins (and Cortese) in the attitude, preparation and planning all geared towards gaining every advantage no matter how small. Idea being that all the tiny advantages add up to a significant edge.

For as long as Cortese backs him with money he'll stay (until a big club come in) because we have a great platform to kick-on - VERY EARLY DAYS though obviously.

Also, you got it wrong, the dutch genius didn't leave for the money, he left because you are shit!

    And we are not!

So rather than whore or purse strings, perhaps Van thirsty (for success) would be better?

Man u has a ton of holes to fill. None of them are in the striker position. Nice job paying us a ton of money while your defense and midfield suffers. Good win against everton and good luck when rvp pulls his hamstring in October.

A cmon bigred, I get the bitterness for Bobby von Jersey, but Song went to Barcelona, even you guys must accept he's gone to a better club, and not one of Arsenal's divisional rivals... you should wish him well. Nobby van Burberry, he showed Arsenal a lack of respect signing for Man Utd, so yeah I understand him being a cunt.

I hope someone different wins the Prem this season. I'm rooting for Newcastle, or Spurs. If I have to be honest though, I think it will be Man Utd *yawn*

Meh, Song is far down on my list of hated people who have wanted out of Arsenal. I still want to punch Nasri in the face.

Apparently someone didn't tell Reading they need to play 90 minutes after being promoted.

Suso could have a break-through season at Liverpool, would fit in well with Rodgers' style of play, is meant to be ridic good and Rodgers seems willing to put youngsters in the first team.

Liverpool are just a joke. Playing 4-3-3 they have Sterling, Borini and Suarez up front. Borini has had one good season (with Roma), Sterling is 17 and has no experience, and I doubt Suarez will even hit 10 league goals this season because he is so wasteful.

If they play with 2 wingers and 2 strikers (which it doesn't look like they will) it's Borini and Suarez up front and Downing and Sterling on the wings. They have no cover whatsoever.

Me too, I thought he was the best player on the pitch. But he's 17, has no experience, no idea if he's consistent - that's a big gamble when you've got no one to cover. Adam Morgan is the only real striking cover they've got too. One of the three of Sterling, Borini or Suarez gets injured or goes on a bad run and they've got no options.

Liverpool clearly getting relegated this year.

And ffs why couldn't Soton hold on and win instead of giving the dutch traitor more goals.
