Which rap CD's need to be listened to?

Nas- Illmatic
Best rapper, and his best CD. If you haven't heard this album 50 times through you're not a fan of rap.

Gangstarr - Moment of Truth
Gangstarr- The Ownerz
DJ Premier is the fucking jam so you know when he produces for an entire album it's going to be good. Both these CD's are Gangstarr's best imo.

Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP
I almost put Slim Shady LP up there too, both are definitely a great listen. But this is seriously one of the best CD's ever made.

Outkast - Southernplayalisticcaddilacmusik
Outkast - Aquemini
Outkast - ATLiens

All these CD's are sick. Incredibly, they made 3 classic CD's and it's hard to choose a favorite.

I would add a lot more but i have shit to do.

Infinite is my favourite Eminem album.

Also I hate rap in general but I've been impressed by Dead Pres, People under the stairs and Gangstarr.

A bunch of new fire that I have been listening to. from the playlist.

Games new shit of LAX is fire.

Where you at is a track with Ray J. I have a release but only games verses. Its fire and if you hit me up on aim I will shoot it to you.

Big Dreams is his single thats been realeased, you can find it on you tube. Its also a slap.

Bishop Lamont is another artist that I posted about with no love. He just got signed to Aftermath and has released one song called Feel on It. Its a great song with a crazy beat of Bohemian monks in the background. You would never think anyone could do it but he throws it down.

Actin' Hollywood by Traxamillion a great song to cruise to. This is sorta a bay area hit if you can't find it i can ship on aim.

Rick Ross- Whippin the Bass. Not sure where this song comes from but my homies friend who is a DJ has it. Once again its chopped up so its only his verses.

Roll by Flo Rida and Sean King is a knock. Has a strong gambling theme also.
Flopping quads and boats like its my job

FAIL.

kanye is an icon of this time period. his albums are so fucking solid, and while hes not on some omfg-damn-that-was-some-next-level-shit shit, he doesnt sound like other people and is constantly having sick songs featuring sick artists. Have you not heard Get Em' High? Still Dreaming? Better Than Ive Ever Been? Gone?

as for biggie and tupac, idk I def like biggie better. However I honestly think they both are horribly overrated. Its the brandi complex, you die and suddenly youve got a place on this pedestal. They were both dope in their own right, but they just dont deserve "the best there everwas."

I always do get curious though why they got this sort of acclaim after death, yet big l hardly gets spoken about. BigL its way iller than either of them, hands down.

slim shady lp is like a mix of marshall mathers and infinite. fwiw, they are both fucking great, so i dont think you say one is way better than the other.

and whilst were on the subject of best rappers, if you took eminems first 3 albums and compare them to pacs, eminem is so much better and its not even close. and also i think hes better than biggie. yes, thats right, i said it.

Im with you man... this needs to fucking start getting through peoples heads. Just because your ass is dead doesnt mean you are the best ever. I really just stop listening when people say one of them is the best ever in most cases. Because in most cases the person speaking lacks the ability to think critically.

Don't want to go to the pen, I'm hittin' fences.
Narcs on a nigga's back, missin' me by inches.
And they say how do you survive weighin' 165
In a city where the skinny niggas die?
Tell Mama don't cry.
Even when they kill me,
They can never take the game from a young G.
I'm st8 ballin'!

this is one of my favorite freestyles of all time. biggie owns pac.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=X_v-iAe-Unc

im not saying i dont like pac, but i certainly dont think hes top 10 best mc's of all time. i think if he were still alive, people wouldnt give him so much credit. there are so many sick mc's that dont get nearly enough credit, like the gza, sean price, method man, guru, and ofc soulja boy.

Aw baby, don't be fickle...

Seriously though, you have to at least respect Kanye for his production ability and overall vision. That album was such a curveball for hip hop, as creative as anything coming out of the underground, and yet it was a major hit. I have a lot of respect for the guy, despite the fact that he's a so-so rapper (not as bad as his rep though) and - obviously - a self-aggrandizing egomaniac.

I think "Aquemini" and "ATLiens" are *both* at least top 15. Those two are unbelievable albums. Andre and Big Boi were both killing it every time they did a verse, and Organized Noize created these completely unique but also completely accessible songs for them to work over. I actually give the nod (barely) to "ATLiens" because I think it's the most consistent 'Kast album. It sounds like a concept album, every piece fitting together so well, and few hip hop records have that chilly vibe they did there. "Aquemini" has a couple of higher high points but also a handful of kind of weak tracks - I don't think anybody really rides for "Mamacita" or "Synthesizer," though I've learned to kind of enjoy both. But those first four, plus "Storytellin'" and "West Savannah"... damn. And I love the hell out of "Chonkyfire," what a weird left turn to take right at the end of the disc.

I like Aquemini a lot, but I think it needs to be switched out in this paragraph for Southernplayalistik

Pete Rock used this same sample on an INI CD but its not as good as this one. P.U.S. is a pretty solid rap group, but nothing of there's is "outstanding" imo. I guess id say Acid Raindrops is my fav song of theirs, but OST and Question in the form of an answer are worth a listen.

Southernplayalistik is about tied with Stankonia for me. I don't think the boys had totally found themselves yet. It's still an amazing record though.

I never said either of them sucked. Hit Em Up is one of the sickest diss tracks, up there with ether and the ripper strikes back. And of course biggie is fucking ill, dont even need to support that claim. But just cuz someone is fucking sick as fuck doesnt mean they cant be overrated.

1) Marshall Mathers LP is "greater" than SS LP because it has a much wider appeal than Slim Shady LP, which is a little more underground and "in character." They both are almost equally as good though. And if you think infinite are better than both of those you're delusional, although the song infinite is one of my favorite eminem songs.

2) Kanye sucks as a rapper, he sucks so bad. Is he a good producer? Yes. Is he a great producer? yes. Has he basically completely sold out? Yes. He's always said that he'd like to be known as a rapper first, which has always pissed me off since he's such a great producer and should really just stick to that.

3) Wutang needs more love, i agree.

qfmft.

i would compare kanye to p. diddy (back when he produced beats for biggie). they are both atrocious behind the mic, but make good beats.

Kanye kills Diddy on the mic and it's not even close. I won't stand up for him as a great MC, because he's not; but he has a good voice and gets off some good lines now and again. He's not embarrassing himself.

About the Wu: their early stuff is the best. I think I already listed "36 Chambers," "Return to...," "Iron Man," "Cuban Linx," and "Liquid Swords" (if I didn't, I shoulda). But not far behind is "Tical" and "Wu-Tang Forever." They've also had a few good ones recently after I thought they were completely done. Masta Killa's first album was really solid (didn't care too much for "Made in Brooklyn" though). Mathematics's album was nice too. And Ghost is still doing good work off and on, though I consider him more a solo artist than a Wu representative, any more.
