Just my initial thought would be that displaying darker colours on a computer screen wouldn't use less energy than displaying bright colours. FWIW I know nothing about how LCD/plasma screens work.
Also if it does make a difference I would guess that the difference is negligible.

I also like to reuse staples. If you bend them so the angles are back to 90 degrees, then line them up carefully in your stapler, they are good as new and work just fine. Sometimes.
Just doing my part to reduce the energy consumption of those thoughtless office supply manufacturers, one staple at a time.
