Robb's idea! Thought I 'd steal his thunder...
who would be interested?
we could do for a wager (say $10 or $20) or just for fun. If doing for money we could work out a structure with manager of month prizes etc depending on numbers.
Suggestions for which league to use would be good, though the Times one Robb suggested would be fine.
Post in this thread if you're interested ASAP as not long to go before life, sorry the football season, starts again.

I'm in. Haven't done one for 3 or 4 years now. The telegraph one was always pretty good.
Oh and RIP Bobby Robson. A real man and genuine legend. I would've started a thread for this but most people wouldn't get it.

The London Times "Play the Game" fantasy league link - I like havin' a draft (so not every team has the same players), but I'll play anything y'all want and can agree on. I tried the Telegraph fantasy league a couple years ago, but let my team go after November when I got busy. It was solid, too. Both sites let you set up a private league.
Telegraph allows everyone to use the same pool of players. Times has a draft.
Thoughts from y'all?

Never played in a league with a draft before. How does it work?

You set your preferences for players, 1st to worst, and then the picks rotate until everyone has 20. To help with this, they have them listed in the software based on last year's stats, best players at the top, but you can move players up or down per your own ratings. After the draft, anyone can pick up any free agents that are left since your team may be unbalanced, or some decent player might be left. You can only have 20 players on the squad. So after the draft everyone will have a unique squad. 1st pick in 1st round is usually last pick in 2nd round, and so on.
The drafts usually have a start time and a 2 minute limit for each pick - if you're online when the draft happens live, you can manually select your picks (maybe grab a defender higher than you rate him 'cuz you already have 3 strikers you rate). If not, the computer picks your highest rated player in each round.
I'm pretty sure in private leagues you can choose when you want your draft to happen so everyone can be online for it.
Trades are legit, too - but no cash changes hands in the London Times version. You have to make some kind of package deal to trade players between teams.

The Times one sounds interesting. If not, the Telegraph is a pretty safe bet.

Times "play the game" fantasy league is basically a Rotisserie league. Here's the FAQ's that should answer any question. The drafts must be either 100% automated based on preset wish lists for each team, or the individuals have to "meet" for a draft themselves.
FAQ's for Play the Game
I like this style probably because it's very American and I'm familiar with it. If the guys in the UK have a different preference, I'm up for learning something new.

Looks pretty good imo. Something I've not done before so it should be fun. I don't really mind, I'll go with the flow.

ok, I've set up a league.
as Toadstool said below, this is a good one (i've also used before).
http://fantasy.premierleague.com/
Set up your team, then join the FTR league!
League name: FTR
Password/code: 814318-169060
do people want to have any money on it? I'm happy to play for fun or have $10/$20 on it.

OK, I'm in for either amount, but I can't get my web browser to quit showing the damn user agreement, save my team and/or join a league - I'm in when I can get this sh!t worked out - probably massive user error, but who knows?

Just save a complete team, save it, then change it later. I had trouble with that before, I'm not sure if it's the same issue.

Question - Not that I am into plagiarism but I cannot see what players you guys have selected. Am I missing something? Oh, and I am in for whatever you guys decide on the $$ front.

The site never lets you see the players of other teams before the season's started. You'll see them when gameweek 1 commences.

I'm definitely in for this but won't have time to sort out a team until next week. Presume that is ok.
Suggest we ship $10 to Robb on Stars or someone neutral on FTR if preferred.

I can ship to whoever on stars.
My team is Bummers are Deaf!
Woudl like to do a monthly and season prizepool.
$5 each month + $10season probably equates to about $50, but I'm cool with w/e!

I reckon $20 should be the limit. I'm not comfortable with anymore than that as I'm not expecting to win!
We need to ship to someone soon. Only a few days to go.....

I've PM'd Nakamura (SNG forum reg) to take care of these funds for us and await his reply. It makes sense to have a non-participant holding the cash, even though I trust you all - honest!!!
We can all ship to him on Stars and if he doesn't have an FTP account, Chris can ship to me on FTP and I'll ship Naka on Stars.

hold of the heavies until then!
(if anyone does have any real objections to this, I'll get a friend to ship it for me tomorrow).

Just been pouring over the stats and fine tuning my squad.
Damn it's tough to find value with their prices based on last season. There just aren't enough cheapies around. Gerrard and Lamps look too expensive too.
