So I noticed that FTR didn't have a thread to talk about movies and make movie recommendations to others. Of course, some movies and movie genres have their own thread, but why not make one official one?
I guess we should make some ground rules before getting started:
1) The most important rule obviously: WARN US OF SPOILERS! Don't be a dick and ruin the movie for everybody. Recommend the movie, tell us what cool shit we can expect, and move on. If you want to talk about a specific part, warn us that spoilers are ahead!
2) Something I like to do with movie threads is have a funny "alternate ending" part. Basically, you create a funny alternate ending for everyone who has already seen the movie to laugh at. However, again, WARN US OF ALTERNATE ENDINGS!
Anywho, to get things started, "Taken" with Liam Neeson was a SICK movie. If you like those "one-man army" kinda movies, this is one of 'em. 'Tis definitely worth a rent.
Another movie that I thought was underrated is Role Models. I don't get why this didn't get more love. Paul Rudd is genius and it was probably one of the best comedies I've seen in a long time.
OK...so probably a weak start to the thread, but whatever...I think movies deserve their own thread in general.

Mulholland Drive.
This movie is so awesome, I watched it 4 times in one evening. Everytime you see it- its like a new movie.

Fightclub! Love that flick!
All 4 Futurama movies. I feel like this show is under-appreciated around the FTR commune.

futurama is my favorite show ever, but I didn't think the movies were up to par. They're making a new season airing in 2010 though which I'm very excited about.

I just saw The Wicker Man (the original)
Really 60's, maybe drop some acid before watching or at least smoke a massive spliff. pretty weird film.
Plus Brit Eckland writhes around in the nude.
and the classic joke can be made throughout the film:
What do you call Edward Woodward with no D's?
E-war-woo-war.

I just saw Halloween II and it was pretty damn good. A WHOLE lot better than the first remake.
Every other second was a nasty kill and the sound effects were pretty fucking awesome.
P.S. I'm one of those horror movie watchers that rate the movie on blood & gore.

Saw I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell a few days ago. Funniest comedy I've seen in years. Excellent script, great acting, and a story that doesn't insult its fucking audience.

OK...so I just watched "I Love You, Man." I thought it was pretty good. Paul Rudd & Jason Segel were great together. Rashinda Jones and Jaime Pressly were pretty damn hot and Jon Favreau (Queens' own) was pretty funny. Also, Lou Ferrigno was in it. How can it be bad with Lou Ferrigno in it?
I also watched "The Soloist," recently. THIS was a great movie. Jamie Foxx put in an amazing performance as did Robert Downey, Jr. I teared a little...

I shall recommend one, and only one movie
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338309/
Also, physicists at Berkeley have recently created the first coolometer, and they use this movie as the gauge on this coolometer. If viewers love the movie then they score high on the coolometer, and if they don't love the movie they are pushed off a cliff

I cant wait to see it. I just wish the theatres here would show its original version.
I recommend eyes wide shut, U-Turn (prob the only watchable movie with Jennifer Lopez) and [urlhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0315733/]21 grams[/url]

Holy shit. So I just saw REC (the movie that Quarantine basically ripped-off) and it was nuts. REC >>>>>> Quarantine. I actually don't know how Quarantine fucked it up so badly. I was legit scared.
REC is in subtitles...so if you're one of those assholes that bitch about subtitles, don't watch this.

Paranormal Activity sucked balls. I'd like to request some creepy (legitimately scary) movies to watch with the girl. Wuf requested the Vanishing in the Paranormal Activity thread. In case anybody wants to watch another good scary movie, watch [REC].
In other news, I watched the Boondock Saints again today and I remember why I loved it so much. The Boondock Saints 2 trailer is out fwiw.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that The Vanishing is going to outright frighten you. It's a calm and collected film about a sociopath. It uses zero stagecraft to frighten. It is only disturbing inasmuch as the plot is based around the actions of a very real sociopath. It's the kind of film that could provoke it's viewers to think how easily their neighbor could be a sociopath, or how easily they could be targeted as a victim

A person's opinion of The Boondock Saints is an excellent barometer for whether he or she has good taste in movies.
