I pulled my roll a few weeks ago, vowing to quit the grind. Well it turns out that I miss the grind, and miss the spending money that accompanies it.

Last week I deposited $200, ran like a god playing a whole bunch of random stuff, and built my roll up to $1100.

My goal is to turn into a winning 200NL+ player. I've taken stabs at 200NL 3 times now, and gotten smacked down 3 times. This time I'm going to approach it with far more of a cushion, playing 50NL until $2k, then 100NL until $8k.

I'm having a lot of fun at 50NL this time around. Seems way easier after 100k+ hands of 100NL than it did the first time around.

The obligatory BR Log:

Nov 7: 200
Nov 12: 1100
Dec 1: 1350

I'm going to enjoy reading this =)

You have such a good attitude never miserable... I'm sure you'll be owning 100nl soon enough. Question though, what made you decide to quit the grind in the first place, was it a time / other priorities thing? or was you just not enjoying it?

GL man!

Step 1) finish 1st in a 12/180 you're not even close to rolled for
Step 2) run at 20ptbb over a few k hands at 25NL
Step 3) Win a couple 2-table turboaments

Time for the monthly wrapup:

Well I guess this month was a roaring success overall. +1150 in total.

Lately I've been running like absolute dogshit at donkaments...a combination of bad play & running bad. I'm phasing them out as I seem to have far more consistent winnings playing cash. I've done far more work on my cash game & played a whole lot more of it so it makes sense for me to stick with it.

December my only goal is to play 20k hands. I'm hoping to hit 100NL by the new year, but I'm also trying to relieve myself of "results expectation", so I should probably scratch that last 'hope' and keep up focusing on making good decisions at the tables.

Obligatory November graph. This may be my steadiest monthly graph ever. Usually my graphs are swongy as shit, and I think this one isn't because I'm making less -EV high variance stackoffs vs the wrong types of villains.

Those are a couple of gross hands, especially the first one... Sick to see you stacking off vs. 2nd best hand there too btw.

December was...frustrating

Played more hands than I think I ever have in a month and ran at like 1ptbb Running like shit at donkaments also.

At least I'm not losing I guess. The march to 100NL continues...

January was a lot of grinding. Record volume. Lackluster winrate. Still paying off nits too much I think. Basically BE at donkaments. bleh.

Grind continues.

Feb was a decent month due to some donkament scores in the $12/180s I can't seem to get enough of. Volume at cash wasn't great. I've also started dabbling in some 6-max which is where all my cash profits this month came from. Breakeven at FR this month.

+1k in donkaments

thanks

It's funny cause if I would have had a mediocre month, then hit a massive heater at the end of the month, I would be overjoyed. But since I had my heater in the middle of the month, then a cooler at the end I was more "meh" about the month, despite the fact that it's still one of the best months I've ever had. Mostly because I was attached to having an almost +3k month, then when my cooler ruined that I was pissed.

...just another example of expectation, attachment and 'meta-tilt' I need to overcome

I've always dreamed about months like these. I thought for some reason that they were the thing of fantasy, that they were reserved for people who are actually good, or people who played tons more than I do.

Cash

First half of the month was FR and the second half was 6m. I moved up to 1/2 6m and am having fun. I've been watching tons of CR vids at the 1/2 level and have started to feel more comfortable in these generally more aggressive games.

March Graph:

Round that to a nice even +4400 cash.

Donkaments

Unfortunately I don't really keep track of my donkament winnings because I've never really taken them seriously -- I just know that my total profits - cash profits = donkament profits. It was a good month for these things too. I got a $2200 score for 4th in a $22 $32k guarantee, and have been running well at SnGs also. Scored a few FTs at the 12/180s, 27/45s & the 38/45s.

Overall Sharkscope graph to date:

I don't play many of these things, but a good chunk of that last spike is this month. Yes I'm running sick goot lately = +2700 donkaments. (some of my SnG winnings paid for other MTT entries)

Total: +$7100

...pretty mindblowing given my previous record month was +2k

April was...very swongy. Still many leaks in my game but it feels like I'm slowly adjusting to 200NL 6m. It's a tougher game than I'm used to, but I'm starting to figure out the regs a bit better, and minimizing the amount of stupid spots I put myself into.

Spent 200 on donkaments and made 900 from cash = a $700 month. Yay! Didn't lose money! sweet!

More swongaments! Breakeven month? Free FPPs more like it.

My bad stackoff ways seem like they're coming back to haunt me. Will continue to breakeven if I don't fix my game, which I think I am, slowly but steadily. Am starting to get coaching also.

+75 in donkaments = BE

imo and this it IMO (and imo i was one of these players, you can grind up to 100nl FR fairly easily with the core fundamentals BUT I found and find with other players who are attempting to move up find it difficult to beat 200nl and 400nl. I dont think they have the skills to beat these games yet, I really think you should look into making 6max or HU about 50% of your poker play. you will see vast improvements.

As for coaching I doubt you need it, just watch vids, review and talk poker.

Do you suggest that 100nl 6m players play some HU, too?

Good point, I switched to HU only for about a month or 2 and also had a coaching session with ISF which was v good imo. I think it was great help regards read hands and ranges. When i went back to 6m I found what I learned very helpful.

So yea I would recommend it.

I dont think they have the skills to beat these games yet, I really think you should look into making 6max or HU about 50% of your poker play. you will see vast improvements.

As for coaching I doubt you need it, just watch vids, review and talk poker.
I've made 6m 100% of my poker play over the last few months. It's quite a switch for me coming from a pure FR background, and I expect it's why my winrate at 200NL has been rather lackluster.

Still, I do have a positive (albeit small) winrate, and I do feel like I'm slowly but steadily plugging leaks so I march on

First losing month in a year. Was positive only because of bonuses.

The only good thing about this basically 3 month breakeven stretch is that it's kicked me in the ass to be more active about improving my game.

+2600 bonuses
-120 cash
-480 donkaments

Praise lee for rakeback saving an otherwise losing month.

I'm still depressed about lackluster results...meh.

will be following with interest. our sweat sessions have really helped so far and I know you've got the ability to take down 200nl and keep moving up. Let me know how the coaching goes, im still looking at getting some myself

gl in your quest.
I'm finding myself wanting to get to the higher limits also, but I'm stuck between staying at a level I can win at, or move up for bigger wins?

Yeah this long breakeven stretch has made me consider moving down to 100NL where I know I can win. It just feels wrong...feel like 'giving up', resigning myself to the grind. Which would be fine if this was my job, but I still consider it a hobby. So I continue to learn & fight for the time being at least.

Jason is an unknown quantity at this point
Maybe move down to bank some good wins, build some confidence, and then move back up armed with renewed optimism and a fresher perspective.

d0zer? What are you doing to actively improve. Do not count posting on FTR, but what else pokerwise do you do? Are you regularly conversing with others at your level? Do you watch vids AND take notes. Are you reading anything of significance? What did you do different this time that you didn't do last time you failed and quit?
