    Default Ravageur's Life Thread

    Hi everyone,

I'm pretty late to the blogging party, mainly because in the past I wanted to focus all my poker related energy on playing rather than wasting my time venting on a Blog (see my brother's blog ). But I then realized that I end up wasting so much time on other crap anyway, and I intend to keep this blog constructive and eclectic so fk it, let's see where this goes. This is going to be TL;DR for pretty much everyone, so don't even bother starting if you don't want to hear some nonsensical rants.

First, some background on myself for those who don't know me:

I started playing poker about 5 1/2 years ago (I came to Montreal for school 7 years ago) and despite going bust a few times in the first few months and having terrible bankroll management, I still managed to support myself through my years doing an International Business degree. Once I finished that, I had no idea what to do with myself (Mentally I wasn't ready yet for a 9-5) so I went back to school in English Litterature to pursue one of my hobbies, reading. I was doing fine, but more importantly I was starting to make significant amounts of money with poker, including some decent scores in tourneys and having good results at 1/2 all the way up to 5-10NL. And so 17 months into my new program, my brother Genitruc won a trip for two on a Caribbean cruise which also included a 3k buyin Event. Unfortunately it happened to coincide during my exam period, and that's how I ended up as one of the chipleaders of the CPC main event with 3 tables left - Special Tournaments 2008 - Caribbean Poker Classic - PokerListings.com

If you scroll halfway down, I was the guy with a Budweiser hat 'in trouble'. So I nut bubbled/flamed out of that pretty hard, but it also lead me to pursuing poker as my main focus. 2009 was a good year which included lots of poker and lots of traveling. I highly recommend to any young people to spend some time on your own in Europe. I spent three weeks walking the Compostella (Camino de Santiago) through Northern Spain and though it takes a huge toll on you physically, it turned out to be one of my better life experiences thus far. You do a good 20-40km a day through all sorts of different types of terrains and you meet people from all over the place doing the trek for different reasons. Traveling through Europe is just so fast and close, at least for someone coming from the vastness that is Canada. Bleh, i'm getting off track.

So, for how good 2009 was, 2010 was equally terrible.

I set high goals for myself last year, including hoping to buy a place for myself in the city, but I managed to start the year off on a soul crushing 65k downswing at 2/4-5/10. That coupled with a WSOP ME bustout and an EPT bustout in Tallinn and I was pretty negative/depressed about poker (I should note that Tallinn was an awesome city to visit; bars never closing ftw). So, I made a site switch towards the end of October and the past three months I've seen some encouraging results. This brings us to now (2011 bitches). This year I'm just saying fk it, cashing out a bunch of my roll with the hope/intention of purchasing a condo (i'm reverse jinxing the inevitable doomswitch) and I am going to try to either get back to school in the fall to do some film studies and/or finish my Eng Lit degree. The reason for going back to school is that in my experience, you really can only play poker for so many hours without falling into your B and C game, and I find myself with too much free time on my hands that I'd rather use learning new things.

Alright, let's get down to it.

Necessary graph of 2009 upswing/2010 downswong(Graph is a combination of GBP and Euros)

And my last few months since rededication/site change:

So I guess that's it, I'll update this with poker progress, I intend on trying to play about 1.5k hands/day 5 days/week with a mix of tournaments including the sunday mill. Also for any interested I'll share what it's like trying to get a mortgage as a poker player in Canada. I intend on having my first meeting with the bank about it next month which should lead to some super awkward questions and answers. I'm still enrolled in school despite my poker shenanigans and not stepping foot on campus in a while. Alright, off we go!

    Vamos!

GL Dyl. Awesome CPC link there, never knew there were updates for that busto tourney lol. Brings back bitter sweet memories, where the fk is our one time?

Also, thx for letting me sweat you back in 2006, it's probably the reason I play online poker now. VAMOOOO In-deed!

Bleh, I knew the blog doomswitch would hit. Past 2 sessions down 12 Buyins and running insanely bad, all the standard set over sets, KK into AA as well as being a solid 20 BI under EV this month. I'm pretty frustrated, especially since these things always seem to come right when I try to do something that relies on my finances (i.e. condo). Sigh, hopefully this doesn't turn into a full on downswing in which case I'd be pretty fucked.

On a brighter note, in a couple hours I'm going skiing for the afternoon which should be a nice break from the grind of the city. I used to skii a bit when I was a kid, then I didn't skii for almost 10 years until me, Alexos and Meeloche played in the BCPC last year and we went skiing in Whistler. That kindled my desire to ski again, and I got myself some skiis this year and a membership at the local mountain (Bromont) and this is the 2nd time I'm going this year. Hopefully I can go a dozen times and become half-decent. Hopefully better updates to come. FAK I hope this didn't just become a vent blog.

So, after a crappy poker day yesterday, I went skiing and then to a pretty cool concert. The band was Braids, and they have a chance to get pretty popular in the Indie rock scene in North American. They have a couple great songs, and the rest is this kind of metasomething that sounds nice but the lead singer (a girl with an awesome voice) kind of gets lost in it. Their breakout type song is 'Lemonade' BRAIDS on Myspace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads . It was also marred by a portion of the hipster scene that were there only to be seen and not to actually listen to music. So fkn tilting when there's this awesome moment in the concert and there are a group of girls chatting above the decibel level of the music about where they're going after. STFU BITCHES!.

Ok, today's a big poker day, I'm highly motivated to right the ship.

Obligatory pics of winter awesomeness. I should've taken a picture from the top since the mountain is surprisingly good for being only an hour out from the city. It obviously can't compete with Tremblant but my friend still managed to trap me by telling me to 'follow him' down a double black diamond and I almost died when I tried to slow down on some icy patch and just powerslided 100 metres down the hill.

And this is the goon you'll be dealing with in this thread:

Just put in 1100 hands, about to grab some lunch and then put in another 1k hopefully followed by some exercise. Poker content time:

Ended up a BI, but really should have made so much more. I didn't death run, but I made some marginal plays that I would like to have back. I also noticed there's some laziness creeping up in my game. I'm making some flop calls OOP that are just plain bad, and spots where c/raising is clearly better than c/calling.

    Here's one:

    No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    MP ($135)
    CO ($294.25)
    Button ($212.20)
    Hero (SB) ($201.40)
    BB ($237)
    UTG ($209.50)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A, 4
1 fold, MP bets $6, 1 fold, Button calls $6, Hero calls $5, 1 fold

    Flop: ($20) 2, 5, 4 (3 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $15, 1 fold, Hero calls $15

    Turn: ($50) 8 (2 players)
    Hero checks, MP checks

    River: ($50) J (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $37.50, Hero folds

    Total pot: $50

    Results:
    MP didn't show
    Outcome: MP won $85

Here's a marginal play that cost me: Villain seems pretty stubborn and I'm 3-betting a lot and he's calling lots. The truth is, I timed out on the flop and was just going to b/fold but when I saw him stab I figured he's betting ATC here. Then when he shoves I think I'm priced in enough versus his J10-78 and underpairs enough to make the call correct...close though.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00 BB (5 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    MP ($200)
    Button ($263.50)
    SB ($274.65)
    Hero (BB) ($220)
    UTG ($313.60)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A, 10
2 folds, Button bets $6, 1 fold, Hero raises $19, Button calls $15

    Flop: ($43) 8, 8, 9 (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $27.50, Hero raises $73, Button raises $215 (All-In), Hero calls $126 (All-In)

    Turn: ($441) 3 (2 players, 2 all-in)

    River: ($441) 4 (2 players, 2 all-in)

    Total pot: $441

    Results:
Button had J, J (two pair, Jacks and eights).
Hero had A, 10 (one pair, eights).
    Outcome: Button won $481.50

I ran into a few sets in reraises pots with AK on A high boards which sucked, but this hand incited in me the strongest ' fuck me please don't let this be a megadownswing' reaction. What's his equity on the flop? 1% or something?

    No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    CO ($273.35)
    Button ($375.61)
    Hero (SB) ($208.30)
    BB ($194)
    UTG ($242.35)
    MP ($383.65)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 4, 4
1 fold, MP bets $7, 2 folds, Hero calls $6, BB calls $5

    Flop: ($21) 3, Q, 4 (3 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, MP bets $14, Hero raises $48, 1 fold, MP calls $34

    Turn: ($117) Q (2 players)
    Hero bets $153.30 (All-In), MP calls $153.30

    River: ($423.60) 3 (2 players, 1 all-in)

    Total pot: $423.60

    Results:
Hero had 4, 4 (full house, fours over Queens).
MP had A, Q (full house, Queens over threes).
    Outcome: MP won $420.60

    Hand 1
-A4 hand, yah for sure fold river, but I'm tempted to shove.

    Hand 2
    - obv spew. I'd rather c/c and c/bomb turn than this.

    Hand 3
    -laame

Yeah the A10 is just a spew. So far today have played 2.5k hands, and up 80$ WHEEEEE. I feel like I played ok, but I'm still making a couple mistakes that are killing my momentum.

Gonna try to not just focus on the negative, here's a couple good hands:

Villain is a typical reg, WTF is he raising here 3-way? Pretty standard. I just shove because I don't want to get re-bluffed or think he has any fold equity.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00 BB (5 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    BB ($213.30)
    UTG ($165.54)
    Hero (MP) ($257)
    Button ($196)
    SB ($404.36)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 5, A
1 fold, Hero bets $7, Button calls $7, 1 fold, BB calls $5

    Flop: ($22) J, 2, 7 (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $14, Button raises $38, 1 fold, Hero raises $236 (All-In), 1 fold

    Total pot: $98

    Results:
    Hero didn't show 5, A.
    Outcome: Hero won $307

This guy is a reg-fish, pretty standard but nice to see he didn't bink you with like A4.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    Hero (MP) ($276.30)
    CO ($56.50)
    Button ($236)
    SB ($266.85)
    BB ($410.10)
    UTG ($47.55)

Preflop: Hero is MP with Q, A
1 fold, Hero bets $7, CO calls $7, 3 folds

    Flop: ($17) 8, 2, 7 (2 players)
    Hero checks, CO checks

    Turn: ($17) 8 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $12.75, Hero calls $12.75

    River: ($42.50) 4 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $36.75 (All-In), Hero calls $36.75

    Total pot: $116

    Results:
Hero had Q, A (one pair, eights).
CO had K, 10 (one pair, eights).
    Outcome: Hero won $113

Now to some bad stuff. Not even sure how bad this is, the c/minraise just owns me so hard most of the time since it tilts me too much to fold top pair in pos to the minraise but there's not gonna be any good turn cards for my hand and I'm gonna have to fold too many turn/rivers. Bleh. This guy was a random fish.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    Hero (CO) ($221.75)
    Button ($229.15)
    SB ($205)
    BB ($233.10)
    UTG ($132.19)
    MP ($214.15)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 9, Q
UTG calls $2, 1 fold, Hero bets $8, 3 folds, UTG calls $6

    Flop: ($19) 10, Q, 3 (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $14.25, UTG raises $28.50, Hero raises $199.50 (All-In), UTG calls $95.69 (All-In)

    Turn: ($267.38) A (2 players, 2 all-in)

    River: ($267.38) 7 (2 players, 2 all-in)

    Total pot: $267.38

    Results:
UTG had 10, Q (two pair, Queens and tens).
Hero had 9, Q (one pair, Queens).
    Outcome: UTG won $264.38

Again another case of the minraise owning me, I also have problems with these 60bbish type people where I automatically assume they're terrible (which they generally are) but also fail to play properly versus them.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    Hero (UTG) ($244.20)
    MP ($36.10)
    CO ($96.80)
    Button ($200)
    SB ($376.25)
    BB ($215.90)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 9, A
Hero bets $7, 1 fold, CO calls $7, 3 folds

    Flop: ($17) 7, 5, 8 (2 players)
Hero bets $9, CO raises $18, Hero calls $9

    Turn: ($53) Q (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $39.75, Hero raises $79.50, CO calls $32.05 (All-In)

    River: ($196.60) 2 (2 players, 1 all-in)

    Total pot: $196.60

    Results:
Hero had 9, A (high card, Ace).
CO had J, J (one pair, Jacks).
    Outcome: CO won $193.60

Don't like the A5 hand in general. I mean, why do you need to shove and risk your entire stack when you can 3bet smaller?

Q9 - yah easy fold or at least peel. I just think you 're shoving too much over flops when you have position. Whats the point of position if you're shoving? I'd fold, he's gonna show up with better Q's than us.. let alone QT even.

Hmm..with the A5 - because we have backdoor equity if we do get called (bd straight/flushdraw and maybe an overcard). I mean I could click it back but any bigger size seems like putting a ton out there to fold. And you're right about the q9, everytime I get minraised on the flop I need to take a deep breath or do 5 pushups or something so I don't monkey.

ffs, just wrote a lengthy reply to a bunch of hands that also talked about experimenting with spewiness in general. guess i ll just retype a cliff notes version :

ATss hand : i don t hate a 3-street rape-call here line vs this particular villain. def a huge read to have when you see him flatting JJ in pos, makes him much tougher to play against, unfortunately. in this spot i prefer bet-3bet (flop) to any other line if you feel like battling.

444 (turned boat) hand : love the overbet turn shove

A5cc : i disagree with both you and griffey, i would float OOP here if i thought he was FOS and bet every river when turn checks through (as it often will). this line gets him to fold his 99 that he s raising for protection on flop (not 100% impossible) and looks the strongest imo.

A9hh : after floating flop i would open-shove this turn to prevent him from getting us to make a big mistake (like folding vs his JTss). i mean, fuck, we have like 25% equity vs sets...

Q9ss : i understand wanting to shove, but just imagine phil galfond's soothing voice crooning "i think most people make the mistake of feeling like their only decisions here are shove or fold. it s never a bad thing to use your position, especially vs a fish who is likely to fear many turn cards irrationally".
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?
  16. #16
oh yeah and the end of the cliffnotes version should include an abridged version of a paragraph that says something along the lines of "if these strange, spewy plays don't cause you to stop playing out of frustration, they are almost definitely +ev in the long run since they keep you thinking critically about the game".

geni - i agree that in general the A5cc float would be better, but its only reallly good if he's the type to shut down... unless you're happy calling off barrels with A5 if he keeps bluffing.

nothing terrible about folding (the A5 hand) but i think calling turn and riv is fine except for when 8,9 or T hit

Some math on the A5cc hand:

Case 1: We jam - Need him to fold 70%

    Board: Jc 2h 7d
    Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
    Hand 0: 06.875% 06.87% 00.00% 1157 0.00 { Ac5c }
    Hand 1: 93.125% 93.13% 00.00% 15673 0.00 { 77, 22, AJs, KcJc, KdJd, KhJh, AJo }

This is my perceived equity that we have vs his shove calling range

When he folds X%, we are up $74

    When he calls (1-X)%: -0.93125*($196) + 0.0687($196+8)
    : -168.51

    74X - 168.51(1-X) = 0
    242.51x = 168.51
    x = 0.69

So we need him to fold here almost 70% of the time to be profitable. Thats huge!

Case 2: 3bet small to around $75, need him to fold 52%

    Folds X: +74

Doesn't fold and jams or peels and we give up (1-X): we lose 75+7: $82

    74x - (1-x)*82 = 0
    74x+82x = 82
    x = 0.52

    Need him to fold 52%

hah penneywise had i known I would look like a montreal drone on the streets (i think literally 1/3 guys have this exact same jacket) i would def not have gotten it. But yeah it is pretty damn warm but i suspect there's only a few days a year where it makes a difference.

Anyway, onto some shitty poker stuff. Today was a massively death tilting day, but I stuck it out and dug myself out of a pretty big hole. I was down 1.7k at one point and got it back to a reasonable amount. I could post some stupid vent hands (AA cracked my very first hand at 2/4 in a while, AA<KK etc) but fk it i don't want that to be the tone of the blog. I am under the assumption that it's still possible to run near EV, I'll let you know how that feels when it happens.

    Today's work:

Quick update, actually ran above EV today after losing a bit on sunday playing the Mill and some other tourneys. Today was 1100 hands for +1.3k and I actually won some flips. Let's hope this marks the end of my blogdoomswitch! I'm kinda afraid to hit the post button.

In other news, someone sent to me a job posting in the poker industry that seems pretty tailor made for me (who knew being bilingual and playing online poker would be two main requirements of a paying job?). So I'm going to throw my hat in the ring and see what comes of it.

If you grind a lot on weekends, its possible to have a 9-5 job, play sports a few nights a week and still get in 30-40k hands a month. For whatever that's worth!

Had a pretty awesome day, finished 3rd for 400$ in some tourney, also played 1800 hands and just heatered my way through pretty much the entire session. Even ate a pretty huge cooler but managed to keep my A-game going and ran *gasp* above EV. I'm pretty pumped tbh, I feel like I took the worst 1/2 variance can give and I'm still having a solid winning month.

    Obligatory ownage:

I just remember thinking that villain sucked and was pretty passive.

Relatively productive day, got a CV and cover letter together and sent that in and put in 1.8k hands. Unfortunately the heater was long since cooled and I flipped crummily and dropped some. I did have a couple potentially interesting spots that are postworthy:

Villain wasn't a reg, just showed up and like most fish I assumed he was on the passive side.

    MP ($261.78)
    Hero (CO) ($200)
    Button ($202.90)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 4, 4
2 folds, Hero bets $7, 2 folds, BB calls $5

    Flop: ($15) A, J, Q (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $11.25, BB calls $11.25

    Turn: ($37.50) 4 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $28.12, BB raises $175.40 (All-In), Hero had 147$ to call...

Hand 2: Full ring table which I rarely play so I assume people are tighter even if it's only 7 handed. This guy wasn't getting out of line so his range is something like sets/top two/straight/pair + FD and QJ/KJhh. Is this a snap fold?

    1- call
2- I notice you tend to do this alot, like any sort of equity you prefer raising to calling. Here I would just flat flop and allow BTN to either do something stupid or come along for the ride with a lesser draw. As played it's a pretty shitty spot but if we put in a few combo draws in his range I believe it's rly close, stove it.

both seem like calls to me and only vary by the amount of fist-pumping.

quasi fist pumping 1, and not fist pumping 2.

Just a quick update. Went to the new Montreal poker club 'Poker Playground' on the First Nations reserve with Alexos tonight. All in all it was pretty impressive and outdoes pretty much every Vegas poker room. It has 1. Amazing waitresses (Almost on a Montreal quality stripclub level). 2. Free drinks AND surprisingly great food if you're sitting at a table. 3. A good bar area. 4. Good dealers, fishy games and hot massage girls. All in all it's a clear winner. That being said, it's sadly still live poker and horribly boring when it gets down to it. We played a 125$ freezeout that we both busted pretty quick, then just donked some 1/2$ NL. I was up 600$ at one point but drunkenly donked most of it off when I blanked some big draws to end up a tiny bit on the night while Alexos lost a bit.

As for online, nothing too interesting. Some good, some bad.

Today I dodged this draw, and regardless of what he had I think I played it pretty optimally. Villain is a good reg, and I just don't think good regs are raising Kx here until they know you're going to stack off light and I did not have that dynamic yet with this guy:

    No-Limit Hold'em, $4.00 BB (4 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    Hero (SB) ($469)
    BB ($392)
    UTG ($395.03)
    Button ($661.20)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 10, 10
2 folds, Hero bets $10, BB calls $8

    Flop: ($24) K, 9, 8 (2 players)
Hero bets $18, BB raises $52, Hero raises $118, BB raises $328 (All-In), Hero calls $244

    Turn: ($784) Q (2 players, 1 all-in)

    River: ($784) J (2 players, 1 all-in)

    Total pot: $784

    Results:
Hero had 10, 10 (straight, King high).
BB had 7, 6 (high card, King).
    Outcome: Hero won $782

    I also lost this beauty.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    CO ($37)
    Hero (Button) ($220.60)
    SB ($202.50)
    BB ($224)
    UTG ($129.87)
    MP ($325.85)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 3, A
UTG bets $6, 2 folds, Hero calls $6, SB raises $25, 1 fold, UTG calls $20, Hero calls $20

    Flop: ($80) 9, 5, 2 (3 players)
    SB bets $60, 1 fold, Hero raises $194.60 (All-In), SB calls $116.50 (All-In)

    Turn: ($433) 5 (2 players, 2 all-in)

    River: ($433) 5 (2 players, 2 all-in)

    Total pot: $433

    Results:
Hero had 3, A (flush, Ace high).
SB had 7, 7 (full house, fives over sevens).
    Outcome: SB won $430

And I was pretty miffed about this hand. I really don't know what's best here on the turn and river. Villain is same reg as in the 10-10 hand, he's a solid winner. I just have no clue wtf he has that isn't raise/calling flop or turn and then shoving river, but I also can't find a single hand that I beat so I feel like I can't c/call. Shoving is just flat out way too thin since i only beat 10s right? Just so lost here.

    CO ($424.20)
    Button ($183.90)
    SB ($2588.75)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J, J
2 folds, CO bets $12, 2 folds, Hero raises $34, CO calls $26

    Flop: ($78) 7, 8, 5 (2 players)
Hero bets $46, CO calls $46

    Turn: ($170) 8 (2 players)

TT hand is way overplaying no? I mean, how good do you think you'll be when you 3bet this flop and get it in? Why not just peel the flop OOP and re-evaluate if you don't want to fold?

JJ hand - what is his fold to 3bet?

    This.

I'd imagine his range would be something like this when we get all in:

    Board: Kc 9s 8c
    Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
    Hand 0: 25.270% 25.22% 00.05% 8738 18.00 { TdTh }
    Hand 1: 74.730% 74.68% 00.05% 25876 18.00 { 99-88, AcQc, AcJc, AcTc, Ac9c, Ac7c, K9s-K8s, QcJc, JcTc, 98s, 7c6c, K9o, 98o }

Throw in the odd KQ in there, and our equity is even worse.

He's 3-betting 88/99/A10 + preflop and isn't calling k9o (he's super TAG) so we don't have to worry about those hands and I don't think he's raising KQ here, so I think I'm more like 40% against his getting it in range and throw in the times he folds and I think it's close/fine.

ya this particular guy will def be airballing some % of the time here on the flop

Yeah some hands need to be discounted in that range, but vs a get it in range I don't think you can be 40% that seems high...

This guy will fold K9s to raise SB v BB?

And if his raise is airball a lot there's def merit in just calling and getting it in on good turns, then you'd be like 60%+ vs his range if he continues airballs.

There are just so few bricks on the turn that I'm gonna happy to get it in on and can force me into making an incorrect fold that I'd rather 3-ball the flop and hope he spews and/or take the flip right now versus potentially donating 35BBs to him without showdown.

i can t think of a single good turn card besides a king. lots of his airballs will be like QTs, A5s so it s gonna vry tough to play turn well
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?
  39. #39
If you think of it in terms of a range and even include airballs like A5s or QTs.

equity win tie pots won pots tied
    Hand 0: 37.143% 36.82% 00.32% 567 5.00 { TdTh }
    Hand 1: 62.857% 62.53% 00.32% 963 5.00 { 88, Ac9c, Ac7c, Ac6c, A5s, Ac4c, Ac3c, Ac2c, K9s-K8s, QcJc, QTs, Qc9c, JcTc, Jc9c, 98s, 6c5c, 5c4c, K9o }

Your equity on the turn will improve on any non-club, non-Ace turn. That's only 10-12 bad cards that we will c/f. If he has even more airball, then this play becomes even better since we are even more ahead of his range, even if he does bluff us on 9 club turns, and the A, which are the only terrible cards for us.

I guess all this to say is that a raise in villains spot IP is insanely powerfull, since all our options kinda suck.

I'm pretty fkn satisfied right now. This month has been pretty bleh, mostly feeling like I'm running uphill, but today when putting in a session I said fk it, don't be a pussy and play 2/4 and don't run like shit. And amazingly, I didn't, and I crushed pretty hard and felt very good about my play...and I ran hot for my first biggish session in a while: +3k.

When my red line is going up, it's usually a good sign for how I'm playing:

A few highlights. Here is my history with Villain, and why I snapped pretty quickly the next hand.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $4.00 BB (5 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

SB checks, Hero bets $33, SB raises $66, Hero raises $480.55 (All-In), SB calls $220.13 (All-In)

    River: ($616.26) K (2 players, 2 all-in)

    Total pot: $616.26

    Results:
Hero had Q, 6 (two pair, Kings and Queens).
SB had Q, 10 (two pair, Kings and Queens).
    Outcome: SB won $613.26

Setting up this hand. I flatted pf to keep the fish in the hand:

Making a pretty big push to finish January off well. Just finished 33rd in the Pokerstars Sunday Million for 3.5k. I obviously ran good to get that far, but lost a 1.7 mill pot QQ to A5 in a blind war to cripple me with 40 left. All in all about a 6.8k sunday, so I'll take it

Here's to a more consistent february.

Wow, where to start. After the emotional letdown of busting the Mill last night pretty deep, I decided to keep my nose to the grindstone and play a session. It turned out to be a pretty wild session which ended in one of the most tilting moments of my poker career. I've never been closer to wanting to break something physically in a long long time.

Even though EV won't show it, I ran pretty terribly to start:

    Some beauties:

    1. I think I played this pretty optimally to maximize his bluffs.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    CO ($239.35)
    Button ($207.30)
    SB ($200.75)
    BB ($47.50)
    UTG ($196)
    Hero (MP) ($194)

Preflop: Hero is MP with J, K
1 fold, Hero bets $7, CO calls $7, 1 fold, SB calls $6, BB calls $5

    Flop: ($28) K, 4, 2 (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks, CO bets $21, 2 folds, Hero calls $21

    Turn: ($70) 5 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $56, Hero calls $56

    River: ($182) J (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $155.35 (All-In), Hero calls $110 (All-In)

    Total pot: $402

    Results:
Hero had J, K (flush, King high).
CO had A, Q (flush, Ace high).
    Outcome: CO won $444.35

    2. This is close. Villain is standard Tag reg and I've been 3-betting and being sick aggro all session. I think he's snapping AJ as well, but he's obviously super weighted towards AQ. I just couldn't conceive of c/calling and I was too tilted to c/fold.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $4.00 BB (5 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    Button ($430)
    Hero (SB) ($510.30)

Until the climax of the session and basically this month. I grind up a 350BB stack at one of his tables, and he triples up to get to 1350$ deep with me. He is limp/calling just about every hand, and sure enough he limps the cutoff, button punishes 5x and I call in the BB with 77. Fish calls and board comes 972 monotone. It get checked around, turn is a brick 4 and I bet almost pot. Our fish then raises pretty big, to 200ish and I call. River is a beautiful 2 and I check intending to c/shove and ship the nearly 2.7k pot and end this month on a great note.. I check, and he bets 300$.....I go to shove and...(you already know what's coming).....my computer freezes and I have to reboot the software. When I come back I am told by Pocketfours who was sitting at the same table at the time that I got a disconnect protection so got the $$$ I had invested in the pot back but that the fish had the nut flush and was obviously calling off his entire stack and I just burned 1.3k in a fire because of my fkn computer.

Anyway, all that to say, poker can be a great test of your patience. Gonna try to get some poker in tomorrow before I head off skiing where I will detilt and try not to run into a tree.

All in all January was a decent month, a bit of 'what could have been' but hopefully promising for the rest of 2011. I also feel comfortable again playing 2/4 which is great since I really feel I can crush that as hard as I have 1/2 so hopefully rakeback + profits should increase.

Cash graph not including +4kish in tourney profits and rakeback/rakerace:

I think you're overplaying some hands (I thin I say this everytime I post to your hands! haha)

But realistically, you're using the "I have no choice but to shove this hand, must stack off" logic. I don't think its bad necessary. But there are other ways to get it in.

For example, in two of your hands with strong hands you're shoving a flush card turn. I think that card is scary enough that people will be folding a ton of hands you are trying to get value from. I also think that card is sufficiently scary that if you check it, people will def be bluff jamming. I would almost rather c/c this card with those hands you had (57, AQh) than shove. The 57 hand especially, calls flop, calls flop c/r, his range is WAY weighted to a flush. This spot might even be more of a c/f than a bomb.

It's not that balanced with when we do have flushes (though even when we have the flush I don' think its bad to check sometimes), but people won't know if its balanced or not anyhow.

Also AK hand on AhTs9s board I would bet flop harder, it's so drawy and pot it or even overbet shove turn when second FD comes out. Looks pretty drawy, and ppl can't fold.

Pretty meh start to february. In first 10 minutes I lost AA<AK, QQ<JJ and AKs<QQ all at 2/4. So yeah, was down 1.6k before I could blink, I then beared down, grinded it all the way back to breakeven, only to make a few bad spews to drop 600$. Pretty annoying. My two biggest mistakes were pussying out on firing the 3rd barrel in 2 big spots at 2/4 and then trying to rep a rivered backdoor flush in a 3-bet pot versus a reg who was obviously strong (he had top set and timebanked it hard lol). Fkn nits.

Gonna put in some tourneys tonight and hope I bink something. I also went and visited the condo that I want to buy today, and the one I would ideally want is 260K plus all the taxes/expenses that come with it. So yeah, lots of grinding to do this month, off I go!

Volume isn't great, but still put in 1.5k hands today for +1k. I played 80% NL400 and what's interesting is that I can tell these regs aren't used to players who are willing to push any edge preflop, i.e. 4-bet bluff and 4-bet stack off light. So they're not doing a great job adjusting.

I had been 4-betting just under 20% when 3-bet (high for these uber passive euro grinders) and I finally got some nits to spew.
