After over 6 months of taking a break from poker, I'm finally back on the grind. After reading through my past blogs:
Play some moar pokerrrr!!
Highway to the dangerzone!

I realize that I used to have some entitlement issues that I think are mostly resolved. Starting off again, I don't think I'm a better poker player but certainly a more stable one.
I used to develop tilt issues whenever I wasn't in control. When clients went quirky, and HEM crashed etc. As a result I had a hard time playing anywhere else than FTP. Which is obviously not an option now.

I cashed out completely on all networks at the start of this year. I was debating re-depositing some money, but I simply don't feel like it. I had some dollars on FT, which are gone. I had some on PS which I blew on 50NL HU with a 1/2 BI roll. I had €4 on Boss which I ran up to €120 over the past week.

Thanks you guys!
I would love to do some group sweats. Maybe host them on youtube or stream on JustinTV. I think this could be a lot of fun... and maybe even mildly educational for the BC.

I just found your new blog daven! Funny how we always seem to end up in the same boat, only that you travel the world and I never seem to leave town much.
Now that I'm working 50h weeks I have a huge incentive for getting back on the grind and staying there.
If you happen to get closer to vienna, hit me up so I can buy you a beer and hi5!

Need to switch to daily updates cos this shit is ridiculous. Played like five hands this month.
Picking up pace right now cos I need to beat daven so bad.
http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...-185373-3.html

I burned my finger pretty bad on a baking tray yesterday. So, I don't know if I can go to work with that... it's not that bad, but it might pop and get infected.
I'm pretty sure I need to stay in with this.

The hem hud kind of works on Boss now, but just kind of. It still messes up the table focus. I think I'll be grinding through micros hudless and switch to PS once I get past 100NL - pretty much the way I did last time around.
In other news I found a wind power plant 15 min. away from home. idk why I didn't find it earlier. It just didn't occur to me to drive in that direction. Turns out it's an awesome place to make as much noise as you want at 3AM. Packed up my drumset and drove there after work. Played till sunrise.
Wind Power plant is the new rehearsal room.

If any mods read this, could you pls add an exclamation mark to this lame ass operation. Or better yet: change it to 'Push it to the limit!'

Also I'm moving to PS RIGHT NOW. I do still miss the silky smoothness of FTP, but hooking up with that skanky ho that is boss network, I feel all warm and fuzzy playing a session on PS.
Imma just blast through 10-100NL 12-tabling. This shit requires no thought process. And there's not really a point for me trying to go for maximum value here.

I kind of mix and match a lot. I got my first set when I was eight. Unfortunately I sold a lot of stuff that I now regret selling. Especially the snare dums :'(
Right now the harware is part some pearl birch set of which I pretty much only use the base drum. It's a 20x16. I'm madly in love with my DW mini pro. When I bought it I went into the shop knowing exactly what I wanted. An 18x14 birch bass and a black pantha 13" steel snare, but then I saw this. It was just out for a couple of months. It's designed for kids. The whole shell set was less than the two drums I wanted, and it sounded amazing.
it's a 16x14 bass with 16" bass drum heads which remo makes exclusively for this set. afaik there aren't any real 16" bass drum heads besides this, and it has bass drum rims, so it doesn't sound like a converted tom. A 12" snare and 10" and 13" toms. I sometimes convert the 16" bass to a tom - I had some tom stands fitted to it :P
The shells are super thin maple from the same supplier who makes the shells for the DW collecters series. The hardware is all DW, but it's assambled in mexico. It's quite a big deal lighter than a yamaha hipgig and sounds less gimmickey. Also it's half the price.
Right now I have the whole thing packed up and strapped to a hand trolley in the hallway, ready to go. The pearl set is in the basement cos I don't have a rehearsal room atm :'(

compact and bijou, Jeffery. compact and bijou

polar opposite me. Mapex Orion - 22" kick, 12", 14" 16" and 18" toms all on a gibraltar rack, plus a 14" sensitone brass snare, and about a metric fucktonne of zildjian cymbals.

i was listening to an old ninja tunes album as my grind-track today (ja, ja, it means i'm old) and 'let's play drums' made me think of you crazy musos banging away with sticks.
Just in case you ain't familiar, skip to the 10'30" mark on this baby

next thing i'll be linking old Kruder & Dorfmeister - my girlfriend found that i had K&D among my music and was surprised. Just cos she's german she thinks i don't listen to that stuff? hell, not like she's the first deutsche Frau.... yeah, that line of argument went all over the place Funny thing was that I think I was first introduced to it by an English climbing bum summer '99.

Kind of what it looks like. Lots of free improvisation. Haven't played in a band for years except for stuff where someone calls me up for a gig, we rehearse once or twice and then play the gig.
Yesterday a pianist called me up if I want to play next Saturday. Pay is good. I feel super rusty. I think I'll cut down on poker and see if I can practice a couple of hours a day.
Poker isn't going so well anyway.

On review I don't know how some of those hands happened. I'm misclick raising some trash from EP, I make some calls when I should clearly fold. I still don't know if that's the whole story.

Cool stuff, daven!

Gig was awesome. Super corporate crowd, but they loved us. Also yay to jazz for a 3h rehearsal for a 5h setlist. Yes, I just wrote that to piss you off, eug.
Now I have three days off. Will grind 5NL. Need to get my head straight. I know exactly how to rape these players. I couldn't just rape them. I could rape them, leave them for dead in a ditch and then come back and rape them again.
Small experiment for the next session: never click the call button without the nuts, never bluff with less than 8 outs except for ldo cbets.

don't try to force things. Just play some simple poker. Get in loads of pots with the whales, do what you gotta do vs the nits and weak-tights. 5+ptBB/100 or you're doing something really wrong.

After somehow managing to blow 10BI at 10NL, I wet down to 5NL and made it back in two days. Decided to deposit $400 and skip to 25NL Made a couple of buy-ins there and cashed in those stars bonuses that you can buy for 1fpp. Didn't even know I had them. Adds up to a $900 roll. Will move to 50NL at $1500.

Had a real life poker revelation today. Just came home from a weekly world music jam session that is usually really kick ass. Today two spanish guitarists show up. Well groomed early-20's guys. Right from the start they do weird modulations without any signs for the rhythm section. I play one tune with them and as we finish they immediately count in and play Spain.
For non-musicians, here's the wrap up: There are roughly 100 standards (songs) that you never want to hear again after your first couple of years of giggin/ playing sessions. Spain is one of them. On top of that it's not easy and has a pretty lenghy uni-sono part that frequently gets fucked up. I just wanted to get up and take a break, but we are already playing, so I endure it. After the set I go whine to a bass player and he said: why didn't you just get up and leave?
Why didn't I even consider it? At the moment I thought it was an asshole-ish thing to do, but why? I am not required to play along with those clowns. I would even turn down a paid gig with them; so why am I hanging in for this; I feel like a whore playing that crappy tune.
I guess I'm just a lot worse than I thought at my real-life quitting decisions.
That is odd cos I'm amazing at quitting poker. I can quit without much effort whether I'm up or down, if a huge wale has my money or if daven is directly to my right. I even quit poker for half a year just cos I was sick of all the money and the freedom.

It might be related to me being bad at hurting peoples feelings when it's called for and justified. I remember opening a session a couple of years ago with a singer and after the set a young pianist comes on stage to play and she tells him the changes and he's like: ok. And we start playing and he just isn't doing the job and isn't looking at anyone who could help him get back in, so she does the most awesome thing: she signs everyone to break and lets him dribble his last couple of notes before she tells him to get the fuck off the stage and not come back any time she's around in fron of an audience. It was the meanest and most humiliating thing I have ever seen anyone do and it was for the best. That guy might not return to a jazz club in five years, but when he does, he will have the shit down.

I don't exactly know what it is, but I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere.

That was because of how much I respect your HU game, bro.

Anyways, screw the prop for now. In short:

Roll went from $1030 to 530 in two days. I'm back to 10NL until $650 again.

Naw, I don't agree with her decision to implusively kick him off the stage right then and there. She could have just called a break, had a word with him in private and told him politely that it just ain't workin' out. Public humiliation isn't too productive usually in my experience. I've done gigs where conductors just fired the hornist after practically 5 notes. It would have probably been much better to switch to a different piece, go ask the guy to practise his part and come back in a couple hours, but no... Auf Wiedersehen right there and then, and then the mad scramble to find a new one since the concert is the wtf next day. And of COURSE the replacement isn't going to be a whole lot better, 'cause he's gonna be like "meh i'm filling in at the last possible minute, what do you expect from me?". An example of sheer emotion overriding the ability to make the best possible managerial decision to fix a problem.

I might have been slightly jaded when I wrote this.

Anyways... poker couldn't go any worse. Hovered between 550 and 750 since the last update, then downswong, moved down to 10NL, lost 20BI at 10NL... roll at around 300... don't even want to check. got the seocond nuts in for -200bb a handful of times in the last 10min.
The regs all leak so much - auto betting, auto raising certain spots, being super transparent... I'm a little confused with the mega fish, but I try to nit it up as much as I can. I make some super bad calldowns... but then reading the comments on some BC threads it seems like winning regs are stacking off even lighter than me in certain spots, so I really dunno anymore.
Only consistently loosing over 50k-ish hands, so it could be just some terrible variance, but prolly not.

On top of that rake is goddamn insane on PS, at least for silver star 10NL, 25NL.

I don't want to dwell in the past, so the current situation is: I can beat the rake at 5NL; I'm breaking even BEFORE rake at 10NL, 25NL which is ridiculously bad given how weak the player pool is. I do have 30BI for 10NL, so I'll just try to proove that I can win against windowlickers and mouthbreathers if I really put my back into it. *sigh*

I have done some checking up on regs on ptr. There's a 40/10 over 400 hands with 8+ players at 25NL who is +1bb/100 over 500k hands, and there are 12/10 who are consistently loosing over a similar sample. idk what's going there. I have yet to find consistent solid winners at this stake. Two years ago at 100NL on FT there were dozens of regs with 8bb/100+

Instead it looks like I'll be moving down to 5NL and cross my fingers.
I don't... I don't even care anymore lol. Whatever's going to happen.
Surprisingly tough this microstakes thing it is.

Up 10BI first day back at 5NL...
Poker is stoopid. I've been spending some time on the 1v1 ladder in SC2 and it's loads of fun. Interestingly I started to tilt like crazy when I started playing starcraft. Since I've fixed my tilt issues in SC2 I think this might also help me with poker. There are many paralells and it's definitely beneficial to do some practicing in other strategy games. Especially when it comes to working off a list of things I need to pay attention to.
In SC2 there are many scenarios where you can die instantly if you don't pay constant attention to this or that part of the game. In poker these things are there, but less obvious. For example just a simply thing like facing a raise with some borderline hand IP can be a very obvious fold or a very profitable call depending on not only the person who made the raise, but the stack sizes and notes I have on people left to act. This is obvious, but when mass multitabling I realize I'm constantly missing out on profitable spots because I don't have the presence of mind to exploit them. This is where SC practice pays off I recon, because it's all about training yourself to constantly pay attention and reacting to all the things that happen around you and not just the most obvious part.
I have also giving up on monetary goals. I'll just be focusing on getting more solid and having fun with the game while I'm at it.
The thing with not cashing out will not happen - I have in fact cashed out my seed money when things went bad and am now only playing with what I had on Stars all along - which I should have done to begin with.
Also $350 in bonus coming up, but I will definitely get my 10NL graph back in the black before using that to move up beyond that.

Angryafrican is on a distinguished road
Enjoying this operation (also an awesome name for it), as I've had my own up and down at the microstakes the last few months (though I've stabilzed at 20NL for ages now). Keep grinding man.
