Ok, i realize that no one really cares whether or not i suck at poker. I'm new here and most people don't even know that i exist, let alone care if i get better or just eventually get sick of losing/breaking even and quit poker for ever (which i don't plan on letting happen because i love it). This is not to say that the people i have met here haven't been really nice and very helpfull to me, because they have, but i'm playing super low stakes ($5 NLHE and .10/.20 stud 8) and it isn't nearly as exciting as reading about Spoon going for Super Nova Elite or what ever you call it...lol I'm doing this to force myself to be accountable for my actions and really take poker seriously. I think if i have to post my results (good or bad) and analyze my every move. It will, along with all of the info here, make me a better player. I don't want to go on playing and never get any better. So if i have to embarass myself by posting that i lost money at the .02/.05 NLHE tables and post a hand with a horrible call i made even though i knew i was beat (both of which happened today..lol), then so be it. I'm gonna do what ever it takes to improve. I've only been playing poker for a few months and i have MUCH to learn. If there are any other newbs out there that would like to share info and discuss stuff as we progress, let me know. Thanks in advance to everyone here for all of the great info, advice and help. Day 1- $5NL Hands played: 561 Profit/Loss: +$6.11 Flops seen: 114 % of flops seen: 20.3% Big Blinds won: 120 PTBB won: 60 ptbb/100h: 10.69 If any of this looks wrong please tell me ! ! ! ! Bankroll $124.. not as much as proper BR management says to have so if anything starts to go wrong i will drop down to $2NL. Not a bad day. $6 isn't much, but i guess the win rate of ptbb/100 hands isn't bad. I have to start to look at it like: if i was playing at a table where the blinds were bigger i would have made a decent profit. I would appreciate any input, advice or comments anyone has. Positive or negative. |

just move up following the 20BI rule, thats quite enough until u hit 100NL. My plan so far was $16 (lol) - 200 for 2nl $200 - $500 - for 10NL (no 5nl at Everest  )$500 - $1k for 50NL $1k - $5k for 100NL Nowadays you´ll here a lot of guys recommending a bit deeper roll, since post UIGEA games became more aggresive and less fishy. However, with >$100 you should move up to build you roll as fast as possible. Make sure to move back down when you hit $100 again and everything will be fine. |

| Your fine at $5NL, jsut don't buy in over $5 at the start. Also, watch the table stacks, and don't allow a 200BB stack be in danger when your having a good run. There is nothing worse than spending 2 hr's grinding a tidy profit, only to see some guy buy in for $10 and shove over your AA with KJo and suckout your whole days effort. Yea, we want that most of the time, but when grinding a BR, it's going to do more harm than good sitting at a table with 200BB's. I am not saying leave as soon as you get there, but be aware that the whole stack is in play if someone has you covered. | ||

Day #2- $5NL- 2/3 Tables Bankroll: $126.01 Hands played: 883 Profit/Loss: +$2.01 Big Blinds won: 40.2 PTBB won: 20.1 ptbb/100h: 2.27 I somehow lost the flops seen and % of flops seen, but if i remember correctly it was somewhere between 15-20 %. I think that is a little too tight, but i really got no cards and it seemed that every time i raised everyone folded. Also most of my good hands came when i was out of position, and that's (postional play) is one of the things i'm really working on improving. I was down most of the day and very few hands went either good or bad. Usually what happened was i raise with a good hand and then missed the flop. Then i either let it go or c-bet, depending on the board. Most of my c-bets didn't work and i lost the extra cash. Probably just unlucky or bad timing. Need to work on when to c-bet or not. The one good hand i had was just lucky for me but im gonna post it anyway because it was the only exciting one all day. It was set over set, so i don't think i did anything great but be patient during the lull that was today. Not playing aggressive enough, but can't seem to make moves at the right time. Trying to play tight, but it seems to hurt my action when i get a decent hand. At this point the only think keeping me from losing huge, is that eventually someone does something stupid or just gets unlucky. Can't get a read on anyone. From what i can tell these people are capable of calling with anything or nothing. Hopefully in time i will get to know some of them and figure out their "style". If they have one..lol a lot of them seem to just be winging it. Need to watch some small stakes videos to get a grasp of what i might be doing wrong. |

You dont. You played this hand fine. Just remind yourself that people who call 8xBB raises PF with 85s are the guys you want to play against, but sometimes they'll get lucky. Calling your flop bet with a gutshot was even worse. This was a nice hand, dont be too results oriented when stuff like this happens. 9:10 times this guy is just giving you free money. |

Thanks, i appreciate the comments. However this was just one example. My roll was $123 when i started today and now it's $104.41. If this was the only hand that went badly i wouldn't care, but every hand i feel lost. I can't tell what anyone has, and i never know if i'm ahead or drawing dead. Even the days i do well, i feel it's because i got lucky. If i don't flop the nuts, i don't seem to know where i am, and even then i'm worried. In my defence, i had been concentrating on stud for the last month or so and before that i only played sit n gos and tourneys (free rolls mostly) and i din't learn much from them apparantly. It's just gonna take some time and a lot of effort. If i'm anything, i'm humble, and willing to put in the time. I'm starting over at $2NL. There's no where to go but up from here... i hope..lol |

Hand 1 is fine btw. Possibly a good rule of thumb is 'dont go broke with TP'. Hand 2 I do though. "Big hand, big pot. Small hand, small pot". Noone gets by without making mistakes, but you have to try to avoid expensive mistakes if you can. If the hands you lose are small pots, and the hands you win are big pots, then over time you become a winning player. |

| Look out for the subtle tilt. It's not an obvious difference to your play. It's a very slight change. But it happens so much. If you are ever playing poker with a defeatist attitude, or a hopeless attitude, you need to stop right away, because I guarantee you it's effecting your play even if you don't think it is. | ||

AQ jan 20th: This hand would play so much easier when u´d raised preflop. Make it 8BB to go and keep yourself out of trouble. As played you have to fold river. The dummy end of a straight got it´s name for a reason  AQs: Given his shortstack I look him up. AJo: Played fine. The opposition at micros can drive u nuts sometimes, most of us went thru the same crazy 58o and 73s action showing up busting our top set. That´s part of the game and it happens up to 200NL (maybe even higher, I have no experience yet at midstakes). Lean back, tighten up, take their money IN THE LONG RUN. When u enter a pot everytime with the better hand you are doomed to win money

For his QAh hand what would you figure his opposition has? MP2 raised pre-flop indicating he had some sort of decent hand. With a flop of 4Q8 wouldn't you think QA is the better hand? Haven't been playin much, i'm having some personal crap going on, but i managed to make my goal of $125. Feb. 6th $5 NL Starting Roll $125.02 Bankroll: $ 144.43 Hands played: 1702 Profit/Loss: $19.41 Big Blinds won: 388.2 ptbb won: 194.1 ptbb/100h: 11.40 I'm averaging around 20% of flops seen which is pretty tight, but i'm learning when to c-bet,and when to fire another shot on the turn. My goal is to reach $300 at $5NL. Then i can purchase pokertracker and move up to $10NL. I will then have 25 times the buy in and will have some time to adjust to the play. BUT thats if and when i get there. |

I'd appreciate it if someone could walk me through a few hands and let me know what they would be thinking/looking for. I'm a noob and need to learn how to think through a hand and figure out peoples ranges. Sorry if some of these are dumb questions. #1. I figure if he has A A he re-raises pre flop and theres a good chance he has A J. If he flopped a set of Jacks, would he really push all in?? He might if he thinks i have a flush draw, or maybe he puts me on AJ and thinks i will fold?? How good/bad of a call is this???? Hand #1 looks good to me. I doubt your opponent is putting you on a hand. He is most likely just playing his cards. His range is wide enough that calling is good. I would suspect he has some sort of TP hands, some flush draws, some PP's (including an outside chance of QQ/AA) and some other random shit (6x, 45, a gutshot draw, air). Hand #2 looks fine. I may call occasionally, but I call river value bets way way too much. As for play AQo, raise first in every time seems good. Raise over a couple limpers also seems like a good play. It's not a reraise every time. Playing this type of hand is easier if you can predict how your opponents are going to react to what you do, and what hands they will do this with. Are they calling every c-bet regardless of what they hold? Are they folding everything less than TP? Are they calling everytime they get a piece of the flop (even if it's a gutshot)? Figure this out and then play the way that makes them make the most mistakes. |

A. Your probably up against KQ here so this is a standard hand. I'd put him all in on the river though since he is so short. B. This is fine C. I'd check behind him on the turn to keep it cheap just in case he has a Q. |
