life is stunning. I've been busy. Drinking more than i have for a while. Nice drinking, no hangovers in sight. Riding again too = nice. And had my first good surf in ages late last week. Loving watching the waves from my new lounge. Eating good food. Spending time with quality people. Psyched where my life is at, where i have been ('most everywhere ), and where i am going.
Poker is fun too, i'm in a nice routine, playing 3-5hrs a day and earning an ok hourly again.
Right now it's sunny out, i've worked my shift for the morning, reported two more collusion cheats (including a high volume 2p2 poster - stars have locked them), and now it's time to go fishing 'cos i want to eat trout for dinner tonight. Ahhhh. Loving it.

and a couple shot of my girlfriend and i drifting at a cocktail party last night, around 2am i guess

daven, just checkin in to say your blog/op has always been a personal favourite of mine, makes me wish I had more time to hang out in IRC (does yourself or anyone still do this, these days) and talk poker. Or at least go outdoors at some point in time.

dinner that night was freshly caught trout, salad freshly made from my garden, potatoes from a friend's garden.

cheers bro. I haven't been in irc much for ages. I got banned/kicked from the cool kids club by bikes cos, who knows and who really cares. IRC has been pretty quiet since black friday, well it was for a while anyway. Getting outside is gold. People spend way too much time inside, and especially in front of computers - it's physically and psychologically damaging. I mean, think about online poker players who list internet and computer gaming as hobbies outside of poker. Think about their physical and mental state, if not now then in five years from now. Likely pretty unhealthy... I'm getting in a bunch of sunshine and outdoor life. Psyched for a cool climbing/hiking/maybe fishing trip with a few friends over easter.

oh, and poker seems to be going ok. Cos that's the point of this blog? right? edit: i'm not sure what my record for consecutive winning sessions is. One day i'd like to hit 20.

easter was an awesome trip - Friday we drove then climbed then camped, saturday drove to the west coast then went hiking to a remote-ish hut that was pretty damn nice. Sunday morning i went out and caught wilderness brown trout for late breakfast, then we headed back out in the afternoon rain. Monday was all about coffee and food and lake swimming. Yet another great break from poker, four of us roadtripping in my little corolla.

poker is all about 6ptBB/100 at stakes from 16nl to 50nl thus far this month. Things are just fine. Need to play more hands though.

last 100k hands, a mix of stakes. All Full Ring. I need to look into my preflop calling/limping/completing ranges. Some starting tables and 3-5 handed periods with regs after game-selecting regs left... Highest played in these hands is 100nl. Most volume 25nl and 50nl. Played terribly for about 25k of these hands. This is about the last month in my poker life. Time to up volume and up income. I've had a lot of cool days with no poker thus far in april...

utg obviously open shoved for 150bb, 3 players wtf folded?!?!!? including a reg who was only 100bb deep and had been at the table a few orbits, then the rest of us lfdo went all in. Two pair on the flop looked good, a shame the river wasn't a blank though cos a blank river was worth another $1000 or so to me... definitely not complaining though, cheers for the nice little bonus stars!

the deep ante games are interesting, dunno why i didn't spend much time on them before. There is a whole bunch of interesting bet-sizing/action stuff that i've figured out during studying ante games, and now that is all spilling over into normal 100bb tables. Time to move up on the ante tables i guess, both regs and fish seem to get very confused playing against my style. Style is loose and fish cos i am fish and cos everyone else is just as bad on these tables. And once people know that i bluff more than some, well, anything can happen...

A hand from my most recent session, this villain has proven to be particularly adept at folding to my bluffs and calling my value bets...

yet another climbing weekend done and dusted. Single pitch moderate sport climbing was saturday at this place http://www.queenstownclimbing.com/wp...4712836252.jpg, multipitch big climbing was sunday am, lakeside staunch sport climbing was sunday late arvo. Highlight was pulling the roof on ythe third pitch of 'get up, stand up' at kingston = this place http://www.queenstownclimbing.com/wp...4712449759.jpg. Good times. And yet another night of camping in a good spot with great people. And now i guess it's time to play some more poker...

i've decided to post occasional photos of my house and garden to remind myself what poker has allowed me to buy and to motivate me to keep on grinding so that the bank continues to play a diminishing role in funding where i live

some ghetto garden fence action behind the apple tree

and some checking St Kilda swell from one of the lounges

Awesome Daven! Checked out the roof, the one on the cragg - nice pull. That rock has some features, but not tons of stuff that has juggy holds. Rating?

Thanks for post in my op thread and re-posting in the "thoughts on tilting" thread.

schist surprises in the holds it has
the 3 pitch route with the little roof was 18 or 19, i think that's 5.9 or early 5.10. Not as hard as it might look The route on the hawk wall in the photo is 25, about 5.12b? We did the 23 (11d?) next to it, stellar climbing. Climbed about 18 pitches over the weekend, most were 17-20, I only got on three that were harder = 22-25.
I decided to climb harder, started training yesterday. It will be interesting to see where I end up 3 months from now.

A friend and I spent the last five days hiking and camping through some big tussock/mountain country. The last couple of days got interesting with snow down to 400m and us up over 1300m. Beat the cold and all is good back home today with the fire keeping the house warm. Fitness = improving. Life = great. Poker = enjoyed yet another week off = just how it should be. Bankroll = healthy enough to play the games i want to play.

p.s. @ redzill4r - i am flattered to note that you are continuing to check my op post-ban and -unban. Lovely, it makes me feel warm inside

time to get some volume on. Days when i'm not doing uber-cool shit i've gotta get some hands in. I mean, this is all sorts of stakes from 10nl to 200nl and wtf i could easily have played twice the hands this year without too much impact on quality of life. Sure, buying a house took time. So has loads of weekends away climbing. But.... treat it more like a job now that it's winter = that's the plan...
graph is 2012 nlhe on the main site.

would have been a + 15bi day so far if that hand had played out a little differently. Still doing alright i guess.

paid 6bi in rake in the day too, guess i get some of that back, but still, wtf!

How many hands, and how many hours?

Went climbing yesterday, with a bunch of non-climbers, so nothing epic, just 5.8's with (for me) setups and tear downs. And an hour's hike up and back down. A day you would enjoy, I'd guess.

biggest poker day in ages, 7k hands over 8hrs spread over 4 sessions. 5k hands is usually big for me. I typically average about 4hrs a day, 5 days a week.

    Wikipedia Yonah Mountain

About 20 miles from the house - love that place. Second picture with lake in foreground shows the hike in. The parking lot is about 200 yards from the lake. 1400 foot elevation change over 2.5 miles.

The main face you see in the photos at the top is 200 - 250 feet high by nearly half a mile wide, with over 100 routes from 1 to 3 pitches, and grades from baby-beginner to 5.12. Sport, trad and easy top-ropping in roughly equal quantities. There are four other crags on the mountain with anywhere from half a dozen to two dozen routes. Mostly friction slabs, but some cracks, overhangs, flakes and dihedrals too. And because it's one flat, massive wall of granite, most routes offer several variations.

When the kids get older, we're gonna climb every damn pitch on that mountain! That's why I gotta get more fit. My 8-year-old daughter has already climbed 3 or 4 of the 1-pitch beginner routes, and the boys climb part way up until their fear of heights kicks in. None of them complain about the 5 miles of hiking, so that's pretty awesome.

mostly mixing 25nl and 50nl at the moment. Up 50 buyins at the tables. I've played on half of the days in may so far. That's about appropriate, 2-6 hrs/day, 3-4 days/week. The most amusing hand of late was this one. I mean, he's ahead the whole way some of the time, but probably not often enough to keep calling

    daven wins $50.88 (net +$24.82)

    UTG+1 lost $23.67
    MP2 lost $0.25
    BTN lost $2.80

the least amusing hand i'm not going to bother posting. Suffice to say it involved holding pocket aces vs an unknown with less than 20 hands in a 4b pot, very very deep stacks even by ante table standards, and a set. Razvan probably could have got away from it, cos he treats unknowns differently than i do...

and a nice hand, one that i just like cos it's pretty and standard and it's nice to be dealt aces, play uber-standard abc poker and actually win from time to time. Cheers shortie.

Actually had to think about this one for a minute. It's been a long week.

    and some more aces
a little bit deep vs reggish wannabe lag, obviously we have big history which may make his play less awful than it may seem? probably still pretty awful though. There's some mad preflop dynamic and sizing at this table for all sorts of reasons, i'd probably 9x aces in his spot in this session

so far i'm up more bb than last month, and at a higher average stake (lowest games played = 25nl, but that's also where i've played most hands this month, and don't think i'll change that before month=end). I was still hoping for 100bi table profits a few days ago, but that -11bi dumpswing has made that unlikely now. I'm still saving my fpps...

so i went nato on volume the last few days cos i wanted to hit 100buyins for the month. Instead i just started playing loads of hands at c-game.

    here's a graph.

i started today's session with a roll of about 38 buyins for the stake i was playing. At some point i was 16-tabling, 7 deep ante and the rest 100bb tables plus on a couple of waitlists. A seat came up at one of the tables, i clicked to take it, only to get a message that i did not have enough available funds to sit. Minor concern, but a quick check showed that the session had been profitable up until that point. My average stack across all my tables? +/- 300bb. Poker is weird. Guess i need to start rolling deeper if i'm going to get involved in so many big pots...

The volume alone makes that graph sexy, the green line is just the icing on the cake. wp

june has been a poker train-wreck. Losing at the tables at -1BB/100. Running like shit. If i miss another 21-outer or run into another turned set or lose another pot with aces after 3, 4, and 5 bets preflop... etc. moan. moan. boring

    life

Oh well, better to bank my rungood for real life events rather than using it all up on internet poker. I managed to retard myself on my bike the other day, i was confused as i was flying over the handlebars towards tarmac, and further confounded when the bike landed on top of me. I got lucky, some bruises and that's about all.

I cashed some feeps and withdrew a chunk of change a little earlier this month than i was planning. Drank some nice booze. Ate some good food. Bought tickets for a trip to thailand later this year. Etc. Things are fine

    poker
all this runbad has meant splashing even more than normal at the tables trying to 'win it back fast'. 27% vpip for the month with an average of over 7 players at the table for all those hands. pfr over 20. It's fullring bro. wtf. moan. moan. boring Yeah, that's an idea. Boring. Imma gonna be a nit. Fold J9s utg, not auto-squeeze every button (button pfr approaching 30%, 3b up to 7%), not auto-defend my blinds (sb is breakeven this month, bb is -9BB). It means i'll have good cards once in a while when i see a flop. I mean, it's not like anyone ever folds anymore when they have middle pair or whatever cos middle pair pretty much always becomes a set or trips. Blah. Nittery. Cool. It's like a resolution.

    life
And then after a week of nit imma gonna have a week of no poker whatsoever cos there are fun things to be done. Fuck yeah.
