Taking a queue from some other great players on this Forum, we need to be much more goal oriented as Poker Players. Many of us wonder aimlessly through the poker tables. That's kind of what I have been doing lately.
I'm going to start being more short term goal oriented from month to month. Trying to accomplish baby steps by putting one foot in front of the other each month in an effort to reach my ultimate goals as a poker player.
So, I'm starting an October Goals thread and I think we should continue this each month!
Please add your goals for October!
My goals for October are:
After my recent debacle at the 5/10 & 10/20 6max tables (dropping almost 150BB over the past two months), I need to get my bankroll a little healthier and bet back to my winning ways. So, my October goal is pretty simple. It's more of a damage control & recovery plan... 10k hands at +1.5BB/100h at 3/6 FR.
I also want to re-read SSHE to make sure I didn't pick up too many subconscious habits from 6max that will be leaks at FR games (I have enough leaks already, I don't need to be picking up more! lol...).
This will get my bankroll a bit healthier and restore my confidence a little bit before I go back to the 5/10 tables.

Bankroll is ~$3650 now, my goal is to continue grinding NL100 6-max, hit 5k and then take a shot at NL200 for 5 buyins.

got my BR back up to $650 - Finishing PokerRoom sign up bonus - Go to SunPoker hopefully quad tabling 6max (if they have enough players) for new RB deal and Bonus' - if they don't have enough, go to Full Tilt where I get RB -
Goal this month is to play 15hrs/week (married and a day job makes it tough and pull a win rate of 8PTBB + at 25NL 6max - hoping to get to 50NL by end of Oct, but not in a huge rush since 25NL is easy right now...
Move back to PartyPoker in November or December
all of which depends on the online poker ban, of course

also, forgot a couple things im working on -
Get PAHUD
Post hands regarding "protecting a hand" vs. value betting (or letting a weaker hand call you) - been thinking about that with TPTK kinda hands against 1 or maybe 2 players...If i could just figure out how to use the damn PokerRoom statistics crap - I may have to move to party earlier JUST so i can download my HH's easier -
Think more about my game -
Play some MTT's -

Important goals: stop spewing chips post-flop, become a better hand reader, re-read Sklansky & Miller's NLHE T&P
Less important goals: maintain or improve upon my winrate at 50NL, play a few MTTs, get halfway toward being rolled for 100NL again

I want to stop loosing money on the cash tables and concentrate on my SNG & MTT skills where I am a winning player.
Also I hope that my divorce is coming through in the next two weeks so I can marry my girlfriend during our holiday in Vegas.

monetary goals are bad. Set goals that you have control over, ie. # of hands in a month

September kicked me in the nuts. With bonuses I will probably show a profit, Poker I will probably be down about $500. Short Handed kicked my ass
October goals, switch back to full ring. 100nl/200nl -- become less of a nit. (Trying to follow Rentons Preflop guide more)
My last negative month was Feb. I guess I can't complain since I only play 10k to 15k hands a month.

Limpin, can you play the £25NL at Sunpoker (it's where I hang out) - trickier than $25 but definitely easier than $50, and with the current exchange rate it equates to roughly $47NL. Also, you can get rakeback there, through FTR I believe.
October goals: I don't think I've set any decent goals for a while, not since my disastrous attempt to move up to $100. I can't set number targets as I'm not able to plan my play; money targets are worse than useless.
I hope to play a few more MTTs (played 4 last month, 2 ITMs incl. a satellite) but as ever, lack of long free stretches of time will mostly prevent this.
Hope to play a couple of live games - one of my mates I recently introduced to poker and he's talking about a game with lego instead of cash/chips Even without financial incentive it'll be great to actually sit down and play with a load of mates.
I *guess* I should try $100NL again, but I will pick my opportunities very carefully. I've run good lately at £25NL so I am far from tilt and pretty confident, but after last time I'm sure the first time I get stacked at $100 will induce a pavlovian tilt response...

I will jump on this now after a two night 6 buy-in downswing. by the end of october I want to:
*Be playing 20 Hrs. a week
*Be rolled for $50NL(@ $20NL right now slightly underrolled after the swing. I might move down for a week.)
*Finish both HOH2 and re-read TOP
*Have enough to buy a monitor that runs above 1280x1024

I was going to go to SunPoker and check it out again - I played there for a few weeks just playing limit underrolled trying to clear the bonus...But now that they have Bonus + RB + Reloads, sounds pretty nice - I haven't played the 25NL - By trickier do you mean the 25NL players are good/better than avg.? Or that the currency exchange is tricky? I probably need to stick to the US$ 25NL for now (my keyboard doesn't have the lb. sign - ignorant americans - I went nearly busto playing outta my roll and had to start over at 10NL about 6 weeks ago...basically i had too much ego and thought i was unbeatable - at least i found out i was easily beaten though because now i'm back to being fully rolled for 25NL and winning consistently for the first time ever....I remember playing the lb. games a few times doing 1/2 limit, and the foreign players seem looser, which i like - so i might try the 25lb game if I like Sun - another couple hundred and i'll be fully rolled for 25lb game - And im guessing the its' probably easier than 50NL...see ya there i guess i saw swiggidy on a Pokerroom table the other night, but he ran scared as soon as i told him who i was
only kidding swigg's

£25 is trickier than $25 because there are slightly fewer completely clueless players and slightly more decent players. But there are very few properly good players and a lot of people are weak. It suits my game, probably because that is where I have always played (I tend to play better against tight weak players than loose players, and seem to make a fair bit of money off them).
£25NL is definitely easier than $50 though - I would say it is pretty much halfway between $25 and $50 in difficulty terms. I wish there were more sites that offer £ tables!

I just want to play 25k hands. I don't play enough. The most I've ever played in a month was 10k. I'd be happy win lose or draw... but a lot happier win.

septembergoals: 50 k hands played
-failed. only 42k or so
10k in profit
-failed. 5k in poker and 1.6 in rake back for a total of:
$6600 (running at 2.6ptbb/100.)
i wish i could post a graph(cant get on to pokerpatterns website.)
i ran really really bad this month. lose 1k one day, up 1k the next. very trying.
ive got the party rakeback hookup now, so im going to try and fufill my sep. goals in oct.
so hopefully: 10k profit. 8-10 ptbb/100 @ 200nl over 40k hands, and 5ptbb/100 @ 400nl, along with 1.5k in rakeback.

About half way through this month went really pear-shaped on me.

I barely got 1k hands in at $25NL, didn't touch $10 6-max (but played some $25 5-max on dise, not well) but played a looooot more limit as I whored my bonuses. Month went like this.
So not as bad as it could be, although I've blown the Betfair bonus (the others are monthly/reloads, so I don't feel as bad about them).
So 1-4 accomplished (Betfair is 68% clear), I skipped 5+6 and instead did Pokerplex and Party bonuses.
I read SSH and WLLH over, and over, and over. And maybe it's starting to sink in. And I think I went over my sessions a lot.
See what happens when you set non-monetary targets? You have a sucky month but you come out an acheiver
October's goals.
1) Play $1/2 until my mouse breaks.
i) Clear remaining $95 Betfair
ii) Interpoker $100 reload
iii) Will Hill £25
iv) Poker Plex $200
v) Sun Poker $100 reload
vi) Either a) Sun Poker's extra $100 or Classic Poker's $100 dep bonus
2) Fix my BB which is currently suffering at -0.3BB/hand. Aim to run better for the next 15k hands.
3) Play tighter and more aggressive.
4) Play at least 1k hands at NL (@$50NL) on Crypto.

I don't play enough. Gotta log a million hands before pokah is gonzo.
Sep goal was to play 15k hands. Played 10k hands instead at nl200/300 on p arty and pr ima. 9.4 ptbb/100 +4.3k.
October goals :
-accept the fact that I am ridiculously overrolled for anything below nl400.
-Play 20k hands and be well installed at nl600 by 01/11/06.

- read NLTAP (failed september goal, *** postal service returned it to amazon along with books I need for all my courses)
- play 20k hands at 200NL FR
- try and achieve 7BB/100 over said 20k hands, this requires a lot of work on post flop game
- spend equal amount of time at the university as I do at the poker table
If the above are reached, take som cash from poker and casino rolls to get a new computer as a birthday present to myself on the 30th.

Yeaaa, I didnt come close to my goal last month, barely put in the hands and only net around maybe $2k from poker and probably another $1-2k in bonuses. This month Ive been trying to get my act together and put in the hands but holy-fucking-downswing, haha this is my october graph so far:

So that has hurt my motivation a little.
Anyways, here are my goals for this month:
Poker:
-Put in 50k hands
-Make $6k and be rolled for 400nl by mid month and comfortable there by the end of the month
-Become more involved with posting hands
-Continue doing session reviews
Other:
-Make $10k from poker and casino bonuses
-Sounds ridiculous, I know, but I think its definitely possible and Ill give some more info at the end of the month when Im ready to get into that
-Get work done in school

Screw that. Running kinda bad the first week, bad beats/sets over sets/poor play. Now I think I might be tilting a bit trying to win more to reach this goal, so I'm just gonna say "fuck this goal".
I'll take some days off from poker playing, and start out fresh again looking to play better poker and reach my 20k hands played goal. I think I'm gonna try and not look at my BR until november, although it's gonna be pure hell to fill all the sessions into my spreadsheet after the month.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna log off and hard to get my mind off poker.
