Probably bad timing to start this being I'm tied up until the weekend but better late then never...One lesson that was really hard for me to learn was that I am not as good as I thought I was. I spent all of highschool playing poker ( (almost legally) online and casinos). I never had a job as my hobby was paying for everything. I had one of my really good friends go threw this phase with me and he actually recommended this site to me. Which really has been pretty amazing.

Then the real world kicked in. I graduated from HS and moved to LA to attend film school. Three years later now done with school and no fucking clue about where to go. I stopped playing all together as there has been no time. So, I depost $50 on stars and here I sit a few months later.

My goal is to learn everything I missed the first time around and pick up a whole lot more. This blog will follow actually two goals or so I have planned. A) Grind 5nl to a $700 br and withdraw $600 to deposit onto tilt and bonus whore (Ive actually never done the bonus whoring thing). I want to leave $100 on stars to play the micro sunday tourneys. MTT's have always been my main focus so it has been interesting putting the focus on rings. B) Grind 5nl at tilt while bonus whoring to get my br over 1k. Where I will then re-evaluate.

It may seem pretty stupid to put so much focus on 5nl but I have never consciously "grinded" out a limit...Thanks for reading and check back for updates

GL , but can I suggest that when you get to 250$ move up to 10NL. fpps come along slowly at 5nl and quicker at 10nl. It made a hell of a difference to my bonus clearing once I'd moved up to 10nl. At $700 you want to be thinking about 25NL and once you are comfortable atthat limit then you should be set to go Bonus whoring. Aiming to do it at 5NL is asking for a lot of heartache.

Thanks for the support guys! My br is over $250 now. The issue is IDK if moving up is good while I am still trying to figure out my ring game. Currently my br can stand a $5 blow and it doen't bother me that much. $10 is kind of scary being I would only have 32bb. Am I being over conservative?

AK hand - why are we check/folding the turn?

TT - lead this flop, please

AQ - why not raise the turn after you finally hit your hand on a rainbow board?

KK - you can raise smaller since you want action here - they can't all have AA. I would 4bet to $.30 and then 6bet/all-in.

AK: button was super loose, I didnt want to have to re-evaluate river when he for sure would barrel again. Figured I would save the $$.

TT: I checked because villain was very aggressive and I figured his likely hood of stacking off was better if he had to act after my three bet.

AQ: I wanted to look weaker than I was. I figured if I just called behind he would shove considering his small stack.

KK: I raised more because there was a limp, a minraise, and another mini raise in front of me. I either wanted money in PF or everyone to fold.

I have stats running on these guys during the hands. Would it be more helpful if I posted villains numbers?

Yes.

OK, at least you're taking reads into account. Still, the c/r is a VERY scary line and it's sometimes hard to get all the chips in with it. Sometimes, you're better off just leading the flop/turn. In this case, it seems all the chips were going in regardless.

Also I don't like giving the "minbet free card." I think a lot of villains at 10nl and 25nl try to get a "nearly free card" with their draws when they play this way. This was a pretty dry board, tho, so meh. Min-bets are a pain in the ass - they can mean made nut hands or total garbage, and different donk-villains play them differently, so it's a nice thing to make a note on.

I spent a majority of the evening reading higher level thinking and tried to apply it here lol. It didnt work for me as you can obviously tell it looks like a 4th grader got ahold of my PS account. Maybe tomorrow my head wont be shoved SO far up my ass.

First TT hand - just flat the 3bet preflop.

AK + air hand - nothing wrong with check/folding AK on flop that misses you sometimes, especially oop.

Played for a little bit this morning. Things went much better than yesturday. Cant tell if its because I played better, variance, or both (probably both). I felt more confident betting and laying bigger hands down. Which so far I have seen is the best defense, FOLD. One JJ hand stuck in my head that I could have folded. I wanted to, but it seemed like too many hands were in his raising range to fold.

Villain Stats: 20/9/2 this hand I wanted to fold but too many seemed to be in his range to make the call. However, I think my mistake in line of thinking was that he waited till the river to raise me (usually=pretty strong).

I dont have stats for the bottom hand. However my read was his bet was actually kind of weak. The fact that he limped and then 4x seemed to put him in the 77-TT range. I thought I had folding equity being I had been representing a tight range and if not we were off to the races. His 99 to my AK pf:

I will hit an A or K 33% of the time. So I win 8.49 if I win once and I loose 4.06 (x2) = 8:12 twice when he wins. For a thin protit of .37c.

Now I dont quite understand how to calculate Folding Equity but I figured he wasnt calling this about 50% of the time. So I actually make 1.60 every time he folds. I figured it was a profitable gamble?

Things are going much better at 10NL. I think its a mixture of playing smarter and getting a member ship at grinder school. Ive been watching a few of the videos and already its helped. For sure have been paying attention to position so that has helped. Very excited for tomorrow!

lol well, today went much worse than I had hoped. Down 2.5 buy ins and I'm not sure completly why. Tables were stacked well, wasnt being bothered, thought I was playing aware but who knows...My virtual machine crashed on my so I lost all my HH and am waiting for PS to send them to me. Today I have changed my opperation. MTTs have always been what I like to play. I gave 10nl a short run (under 10k hands) but I think my brain is wired more to MTT.

My overall profit for ol play hit 1k today. Its been actually kind of hard for me to get there. Ive only been playing ol since last year and even at that I didnt play a ton in 08.

I played in a 6-max $2.20 today with 1680 entrants that lasted 7.7 hours to finish, came in 2nd. I was pretty pleased but overall not that excited. I think I played ok, but am not to sure what I messed up on. I know I felt a ton of pressure when I was HU and it didnt take long for villain to have my stack. I wasnt like crushed or anything but a mix of missing flops and not catching a ton of hands I think is what did it (minus my experience of course).

I guess tomorrow I will troll through the tourney HH and post some hands Im not to keen on.

I also tried to set up mIRC to see if anyone wanted to railbird but for some reason I was unable to connect.

Oh well, heres to tomorrow and I am glad to be apart of the 1k club

Today I hit my target goal..kinda. Ive won two tickets to big sundays which boosted my roll to over the 1.2k mark.

I am very pleased as this is the first time I have set an actual poker goal and completed it. I dont know what to shoot for next so I guess thats the first step tomorrow.

I am still looking for a MTT coach. I personally dont know what to look for in my own game to really improve. So I will be very excited to see how the searching continues.

Thanks for the kind words! It actually took me a little under two months to complete.

Mainly I tried to follow Shaun Deeb and just play as many MTTs as my BR/time would allow. I have learned a TON and am excited to see whats next. I have to thank everyone at FTR for putting up with my comments/questions. I have benifited 10x over from the advice given to me.

I finally found a coach and had my first session the other night. It went extreamly well and my eyes were opened to smaller things that I never really knew before. However, these smaller things are what makes a good poker player better.

Today I had my first 1k in a day profit. Which is pretty big as that was 100% of my br added in one day. Without a doubt I would not have had made this much if it wasnt for my coaching session. I was recommended to take shots at bigger buy in (still applying BRM) MTTs and obv it was a profitable move

. I ran ok, variance was on my side, and the coaching session made today possible.

I have another session set up for next Monday and am even more excited to learn more tiny things that will make huge difference in my game.

Weeee! I took 5th in the sunday $22 20k gtd on stars for a little over 2k.

Its nice to go deeper in tourneys as you learn so much about reading people/playing styles. Overall I felt like I played pretty well but for sure made a few mistakes. Now to review the whole thing and see what I can improve on!

I have been getting killed in every MTT I have played since my deeper run in the $22. I kind of takes the fun out of poker when you make mathematically good choices and great reads only to be 2 or 3 outted. I know I have run well to get my br up to where it is. But now I can surely see variance kicking in.

TBH it kind of makes me nervous to even enter into a MTT. Like I have worked so hard to get up to where I am only to just get unlucky. I have lost 1/10th of my br not playing outside proper br management (I never play higher than $22 MTTs) since my deep run. My plan of action might just be to drop down and only play $11 180 mans until this down swing turns a little better.

Continuing to run terrrrrrrrrrible. I could post all of the grossness in my other thread but no one really gives a shit...Ive switched to playing 180 man and 45 man turbos for variance. Even this isnt going good. Cant win a flip, cant suck out, and cant win when a crushing fav.

I really dont understand why poker is so swingy. It seems like it would be a consistent lose, win, lose, win, back and forth sort of thing. Not consistently winning or consistently losing. I go on these tremendous not even down swings but just never winning a hand. Its so sick and there's nothing to do about it. I fucking hate life.

Cashed out half of my roll (emergency) and am switching to STTs. Why?
1. So I can learn what its like to grind.
2. Gain a better understanding of ICM and how I can apply it.
3. Maybe less variance?
4. Should be able to move up in VPP ranking (just fun).
5. Understand position, value of stack size, value of other players stack size, and better bubble play.
6. Learn how to multi table better.
7. Still play MTTs on Sundays but the rest of the week is a grind fest.

Good choice. SNG's are probably a better way to steadily build a roll as opposed to MTT's which seem to be more unpredicatble and dry spells last longer etc. Anyway good luck, make Platinum or something hot like that

4th down swing day in a row with SnGs...Hoover around even win 50 loose 50 win 50 loose 50. Im studying my fucking ass off over ICM and SnGwiz says my plays are pretty good. Maybe Ill end up +ev long run??? Currently I was +8 buy ins and now Im down 9 over 90 sngs...

SNG variance is pretty sick too, especially if you're playing turbos. Keep at it though, apparently you need like 1000+ games to have a decent sample. 90 is just a little crack in the road.

Yeah these are turbos and the variance is super sick. However, I am learning a ton so I guess its worth it for the cheap education.

Sigh! My down swing has ended...wow it feels like a 10 ton truck has been lifted off of my heart!

I made two final 3 finishes in 180mans tonight one of which I won. I had a sick heads up battle that never seemed to end. I started down 1-3 in chips so it was nice to be able to make that come back. My villain would call AIs super light so I had to change gears a little bit to combat his style.

Over all I feel good right now

Yesturday went pretty well. Cashed a few 180s and took one down.

Then I just had a whim and joined a 11 6max. I tend to do pretty well in 6max events. Probably because there are less players and they really allow me to be more aggressive (which I love).

Anyways, I got down to the final 24 (there were like 1100 people) and lost AK to AQ AI pf

. Which kind of sucked because the stack I would have won would have given me a top 6 stack. Oh well, I think I played very well over all and I handled the beat pretty well.

Im really trying to focus on just picking good spots and fuck results. Which in turn helps me to understand why I need to put in more volume. Here's to SUnday, WEEEEEE!

Back from a moving break. My girlfriend and I found an apartment in Minneapolis so we have been moving into that for the past week. We're actually very excited about the move as we have been long distance for the last year due to me living in Los Angeles. So its been nice to finally be able to enjoy each other at a close distance. Girlfriends who support poker are very +EV IMO. This can be a pretty brutal game so finding someone who is positive and helps remove the edge makes things much better. Plus its awesome having someone get excited with you when you have a great day. Granted odds are your either paying for dinner or a spa session later lol

Onto the poker! Last two days have been ehh. I've had to cash out half my roll due to the move, financial shit, etc. So I am floating around 2800 right now which kind of set me back but I think by the end of next month I should be back up to where I was at. Not that it really matters because I'm not trying to get "even" or anything. I just really need to focus on multi-tabling and putting in more volume. Two players I am kind of mimicing my September after are fly44 and littlehippie. Both are very solid players and stick mainly to turbo 180 mans which is what I have been doing for the most part.

On a more positive note I hit silver star today! Which made me feel pretty good as this is the first time I have moved up from the bronze. Granted its not that cool being I basically paid for it but it does mean that my volume was higher this month despite the fact that I didn't make as much $. Oh well, I'm a winning player and as long as I remain a student of the game I will continue to improve.
