Got a plan for the next month regarding poker since I'm feeling motivated right now. I'm going to play ~ 600 hands a day to make Silverstar by the 15th, maybe even Goldstar at the end of the month if I grind a ton. In the future I'll move up to 25NL at $750-800 which should allow me to get Goldstar for sure and then buy the $300 bonus.

Quick update. I've played 2.1k hands so far this month, off pace for silverstar but overall I'm playing good.

Finally linked my macbook to the tv meaning the tables/stats are much easier to see. Playing 4 6max tables atm which is comfortable for me.

H2) 3b seems bad vs randoms with less than 100bb's because leik everyone is a station etc. on the flop we do have a lot of equity vs like anything, but seriously do we have more than 50%/how much better is folding? im not really sure about cbetting, but i like calling his minraise and c/decide based on sizing a lot more than shipping it because hes like never folding. just because getting it in is +EV because of dead money doesnt mean we should do it, etc.

Quick update. Played 400 hands this afternoon and ended up $22. Playing well but putting in no volume.

One of the reasons I've been putting in such little volume is due to a lack motivation in general. This week has been pretty dire in terms of productivity in all aspects of my life, hopefully things will pick up in the near future.

Should be able to get a decent grind in tomorrow evening after 5 hours of lectures. Hurt my ankle playing football so can't play sport for a while hence more free time.

Feeling run down atm due to flu and my ankle taking a while to heal. No grinding for 3 days.

Random aside, vs multi tabling nits you don't exploit them by trying to be deceptive postflop. Steal their blinds and 3bet them if they fold most of the time, if lots of money goes in postflop have the near nuts (setmining). I need to remember this.

Only played 700 hands so far this month, I'll study and play more in the next few days.

Vs 2 very bad players. Ran some equities vs various hands and found out that it's fine to get it in here as I intuitively thought. People tend to overplay QQxx-TTxx from what I've seen, generally I try to limp in and flop a set. In general playing hands that make nut set/straight/flush's or huge draws seems to be working, I'll start probably buy in for like $2 now with a $35 bankroll.

Just not my day really, lost some preflop all ins as well as a bunch of pots in various situations.

I've got to remember that poker is a long term process, over analyzing short term results is an easy way to make you go nuts.

Watched d0zer's ABC TAG series yesterday. I've seen it before but it was good to watch again. It reinforces the idea that beating micro stakes is about playing solid TAG poker and learning the game.

That doesn't mean playing 7/6/1% on 20 tables since that's not going to help you improve much, but trying to play super LAG isn't going to win you money.

Basically value bet strong hands big vs non regs since people call down redic wide. Their calling frequency usually won't change unless you start over betting. Almost never double barrel a fish with air.

Non regs really don't bluff as much as you think especially with draws. Raises on the turn and river are nearly always very strong hands, it's fine to fold most of your range even if it feels exploitable.

Vs regs you need to figure out how they play, most at 10NL tend to be weak passive without the nuts and don't bluff. Regs that seem decent/give you trouble are usually worth studying more using HEM/PT3, you'll improve a decent bit from doing it.

No reads on this guy, he was like 11/0 over 10. Moar on turn, river is an easy fold vs an unknown.

3 bettor is bad fish who has been spew 3betting a merged range, other is unknown but looks TAGish.

Quick update on the month. It's been swingy with a decent recovery upwards, going to drop 1 table from 5-6 I'm normally playing just to focus a bit more.

Sadly I won't be able to play much at all the rest month since I've got 3 exams and a computing project due in.

One thing I've found fun doing is taking non standard lines with strong value hands vs TAG/LAG/reg opponents. For example leading sets on board that are good for the PFR then betting turn and river when they call. Or c/c c/c ck/jam vs barreling monkeys. The possibilities for exploitation are endless since being balanced doesn't matter at micros.

Long time no update amirite?

Life has been very busy and fun recently. Exams went ok but one of them ("Theories of Space, Time and Matter") was much tougher than expected so anxious times ahead until results on Friday.

I turned 21 three weeks back so that obviously resulted in lots of drinking/partying/hangovers. On the actual day we had a BBQ round our house and surprisingly it didn't rain.

Other than that most of the time has been spent playing tennis and football and going places with friends. I enjoy tennis but never really played it until recently. Football was on and off for me when I was younger but at uni I've been playing in goal for the physics team and it's been a good for my fitness + confidence. Saw "The Hangover 2" and "X-Men : First Class" and both were better than I expected.

Today I packed up and left the student house I've been living in with 6 other people. It's amazing how well we've all gotten along over these past 2 years living together. Sadly we're going our separate ways since Claire and Jenni are graduating, Frankie is taking an MA (Engish) from home and Espen is spending a year at CERN. That leaves me, Toby and Aidan living with 2 other guys next year. We'll all stay in touch and see each other though since friendships formed living with people are much stronger than ones made at school/work imo.

May was an uninspiring month pokerwise, stress of exams did not help but should be able to put some hands in now because most of my friends are still away and the weather sucks balls. I'll try to post an update each day for a while.

Today was a lazy day. Weather is still terrible so mostly spent time inside either reading or mucking around on the xbox. Put in 500 hands this evening and will review them tomorrow. Hopefully if I set some good routines early it should help me later on.

Went into town and got done most of what I needed to do. Tried to contact our new landlord but couldn't reach him Unpacked about half my things. Finally got round to watching Ep1 of Game of Thrones, found it engaging.

Poker is going ok. Feeling rusty though and I feel like I'm missing value bets and possible bluffing opportunities, also need to focus on regs as well as fish. That should improve over time.

This hand is interesting imo. I tend to lead strong hands very often in multi way pots.

UTG is 29/24 over 55 hands, 30% cbet.
BB is 23/11 over 98 hands.

I don't want this to get checked through and this board hits everyone well so i should be able to get value. When he raises jamming over seems like the only real option to me since we're ahead of his stacking off range QQ+/TT-99/KJ/KQ/AQ maybe QT. Other guy isn't great so he'll probably make more mistakes.

Is this too strong a line to take here with this hand? I feel like he might fold AQ/KQ to jam but just calling looks even stronger imo and will probably result in a 3 way turn with an SPR of 1. c/c and c/r don't seem good.

June has flown by. Life is like that when you're enjoying it.

I managed to sort out the rent with our new landlord + unpacked my stuff one rainy day. Finished the first 2 books in "A Song of fire and ice" and just started the 3rd. I'd recommend then heavily since the author managed to absolutely nail the characters and pace of the story.

Went sailing out to a lighthouse (15 miles offshore) with my dad in perfect weather, glad I got to spend time with him as he usually has to work a lot. Also got my exam results which were much better than expected, just got the resit in August.

Calling pre is probably marginal but it's good to play pots vs fish. Call flop because it misses most of the high cards in his range and I think we have implied odds (5 outs) + can continue on any club/5/8. Basically I think we'll win a big pot when he has Tx/99+ and lose nothing more if we miss. Rest is fine except river can be bigger.

Didn't actually consider raising but it's def a valid option. We'll take him off hands with decent equity against us (overcards, gutters etc) and some stuff like 66/55 better 4x. Can barrel turns that improve our hand (clubs, 5, 4, 6) or cards that make straights. I guess the reason why I'm reluctant to c/r then barrel is that people at this limit tend to not be able to fold made hands.

H4 - Vs a station I think we can still value bet because they should have lots of junk that still calls but yeah against a TAG c/f is best.

Tonight I ended up playing 25NL instead of revising. It went pretty well and I ended up a buyin. Main reason I decided to play higher was because I'm feeling confident about my game + roll is in ok shape.

However I do need to stick to revising, the whole premise of this op was about how I always talked about doing things but never followed through.

yea i jumped straight into 25 nl, but play seems decent and lots of players can find the fold button it seems (not me lol) so not sure how much different 10nl is

Got in 800 hands at 25NL today, won 2BI and roll crept over 600 for the first time. I don't think I played that well, spewed in some smaller pots and missed value in a large one posted in the BC. People seem to determined to donate their stacks though.

i think here lots of times i rather float flop and bet good turns, you have some equity on flop and because the board is drawy he probably isn't folding anything except absolute air.

as played i don't like betting turn, but i think if i did i'm barreling this river as it completes draws so you might get some Kx's or other pairs to fold and you get clubs that beat you to fold.

Some good life news in that I don't have to do this exam resit! Moar free time ftw.

I've still been playing recently though not that many hands. Lost a bit back at 25NL and have mostly been playing 10NL since. Today I played 2 sessions of 350 hands, first one was good with few mistakes. Second one I was playing too many tables and spewing a bit, decided to quit early but ran KK into AA last hand.

Tomorrow I'm going to play 1k+ hands and also watch bikes videos.

Playing 4 tables is about my optimum number at the moment. With 6 tables on my laptop I end up timing out and auto piloting too much. So 4 tables from now on. Must remember to not draw too many conclusions from a small sample of hands

I'll be away sailing for about 4 days, when I get back plan is to play 25NL for the remainder of the month and hopefully crush.

Well sailing was great (80 miles, 50 downwind). Haven't been crushing 25NL but it's getting better. There's more 3betting/aggression pre but people still make terrible mistakes on every street. I need to 3bet bluff a little more OTB vs CO/MP and blinds vs BTN, nothing too drastic though and only vs the right people (good reads). I'll have a trawl through the internet to find some articles on 3betting.

Funny how poker can be. I had a pretty tilting session for a variety of reasons, but I just took a break and booted a football around for a while then came back and played much better. Ran AK into KK twice (1/2) and got 4 outed for 1/2 a stack, still up real and ev money though.

Big thing here is that he insta (< 1sec) shoved the flop so I thought that would eliminate loads of top pair hands since he would usually think about what to do for a few seconds, sets also check always imo. So I figure he has lower pairs that shove because there's no A/K out or air enough of the time to call. Anyway I called and he showed AJ so lolwat. Timing tells are really useful and I'm trying to pay enough attention so I can spot them better.

Today was a shit day at the tables. Playing 25NL with 20BI (give or take) hasn't worked out again. Always risky as a 4BI swing is pretty big chunk of your roll either way. I'm not going to try another shot with a 20BI as mentally it was always in my head that winning a stack was big deal which at the end of the day isn't a winning mindset.

25NL seemed very beatable though. So many people being crazy aggro preflop but with no adjusting, some were just clicking buttons. I'm going to go through all the hands I played there to try to find leaks and improve.

The hands I lost stacks on were varied. Ran AQ into AK on Axx in a 3bp for half a stack (don't know if I should have 3bet there). Also a retarded hand in a 4bp, TAG opens mega fish 3bets (he does this with 77+, most broadways) I 4bet AKdd and he snaps oop. Flop is J43scd he leads for like 1/5 pot and I call, checks turn and bets river 5BB and he obviously had AJ. That guy demolished me in every pot.

I had 4 great tables going but made myself quit as I was getting tilted. Confidence is low at the moment, I really want to get to small stakes but I must have some fundamental leaks that are holding me back. More study time and HH reviews are needed. I'm going to play 5NL until I've won at least 5BI (takes me back to $500) and reevaluate from there.

Sometimes we are so focused on getting somewhere we forget the actual journey is a reward in itself.

All my play today was at 5NL. Played ok but results were poor, HH reviews tomorrow.

I reviewed some of the 25NL hands, first thing I noticed was my BTN 3bet was 1.7% which is really bad as it should be like 4-5%. My fold to 3bet was 89%, a lot of the time what would happen is someone mostly unknown would 3bet me (ip or oop) and I didn't know what their range was so I made a lot of nitty folds (AQ/TT/JJ). Idk maybe its fine to fold loads until you have better reads. People seemed to be 3betting enough that 4bet bluffing was possibly viable though I never did it.

There were hands like when I had AK in MP vs a 26/20 over 50 opener, he raised to 4BB, I made it 12 he 4bets to 27 and I could probably fold since he almost always has KK+ with no history but LOL IT'S AK!

44-22 were losing money for me. Too much calling vs wide ranges and folding on most flops. Stuff like the hand below were I decide to 3bet vs an unknown and turn a +EV flat into a marginal situation.

I went through some more 25NL hands, got sick of it after it became apparent I was playing my C game constantly. So many medium pots of moderate spew, autopiloting and poor decision making. I'll finish looking through them properly before I play another hand.

Played about 1k hands today at 5NL. One thing to remember is bet big for value vs these fish, pot and overbet are fine. I tend to have a weird thought process were if I'm not up a stack after like 150-200 hands it feels like something is wrong, stomping that out right now.

Sat at a fun table for a while, 3 fish 1200/550/450BB stacks each and 2 nitty players. I obviously bought in for 250BB and was playing super loose ip with calling and 3betting a wide value range. Ended up 60BB once they were all gone/busted, just never had a spot where they had something significant when I had strong value. Still very +EV though.

It's really not bad, so long as you have some FE. you really just need them to fold a relatively small % of the time to make a 5bet shove with like T9o profitable

That few days turned into a month somehow.

Life has been hectic recently (for me at least). I moved back to uni about 2-3 weeks ago and have gotten nicely settled in the new house. Seems decent bar a few minor things though I think it's going to be cold in winter due to not having much insulation.

Tried some different society's during freshers week but I'll probably stick to badminton and football and start going to the entrepreneurs society. There is a poker society though it only runs a turbo gamblefest MTT (40BB stack, 20min blinds and bad players). Hopefully they'll be some home games set up soon.

Also promised a friend I'd try to learn bass over the course of a year as they really need a bassist for the band, not exactly sure how it's going to go but I managed to pick up a surprisingly decent acoustic dirt cheap. If it goes well I'll look at buying a good electric + amp.

This year I'll need to have self discipline as I only have 9 hours weekly +Mon/Frid off. Big project this year all to do with Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation.

It's tricky to find time to play on stars at the moment with badminton and football on Saturday/Sunday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday for 2 hours each of those days. Add in uni work and it's a very full week (good thing I guess).

Played 1.5k hands this month so far at 5NL full ring, made one slightly iffy call with QQ vs an 80BB stack shove after I raised. We had a small cash game at home with 5 people (usually 8-9) playing 1/2p 250BB deep. I ran good and didn't make any significant mistakes ending up £4, one hand I might post in the live poker forum.

Tomorrow I don't have any lectures, will be doing lots of work early then friends are coming down later. I'll try and optimize my timetable as well so I don't have to work late in the evenings which would be great.

Setting a simple goal for today.

Play 500 hands.

Might sound like nothing for some of you but relatively it's a lot for me atm. I'll edit this post later to include any interesting hands + results.

Played 550 hands for -$4.20, feels good to actually follow through on this small goal.

Overall I think my play was decent, a little sloppy in places. I was starting tables at full ring, mostly no reads on these guys.

Read daven's session review post from the "ftr threads" thread by rpm, I'll put it into practice for the 1118 hands I played today at 5NL.

Tilt control was excellent, got shafted a few times with 2 outers and made a good quit when I felt frustrated. Session was split into 300/350/300/150 hands roughly.

Might be playing too loose for FR (16/13ish would be better), BTN ATS could be 5% higher even at these stakes. UTG+1 is weird (11% is high), SB stats are skewed because I start tables and play HU a bunch. Maybe cbet more turns?

One thing I need to study/think about/do more is double barrel more turns vs regs/TAGs, not a huge amount more but there's a few spots where I just seem to auto think "he called flop so he's not folding anything" when I need to be thinking about his range, tendencies, my equity, how the board is developing etc etc. I'll focus on it next session.

Played in the uni poker society HU tournament, drew one of the few competent players there first round and went out in a very close with some interesting dynamics. Will post a match report later.
