Sigh. Did a in-depth session review today and I'm just appalled at how much value I'm missing. $9 here, $5 there, and it adds up to like 50bbs that I just left out there in spots that weren't as thin as I had hoped when I checked. Time to drop a few tables and focus on playing well, since there are so few opportunities to valuebet large amounts.

So, a life update:
As some of you know, I'm a classical musician. This month of February is a really intense and important one for me with 5 graduate school auditions, so obv I'm just taking poker off completely. No FTP, no IRC, no nuthin. My gf and I are trying to get into the same school, so that's a lot of added stress. (FWIW, we've taken two and already been accepted to one school and will hear about the other soon). That being said, I have handled my stress pretty well and generally happy with my life.
I haven't played a hand in about a month and I'm cool with that. I'm having to withdraw a little bit of funds for a trip to the northeast, then I'll be back at the tables March 1st, hoping to get better, move up, and grind my way to a lot of money over a measured distance. I would really just like to put in hands and get better, and not worry about the money mostly.

Oh hello there poker blogaments...What has happened since I saw you?
Life success stories:
1. Got my college degree.
2. Got into my top grad school choice with a teaching fellowship+ living stipend.
3. Been living well, helping my gf deal with her recent depression diagnosis and generally had lots of fun. I also discovered I greatly enjoy ice cream based drinks, which I know makes me a pussy but w/e Pink Squirrel ftw.
Poker success stories:
1. Withdrew my entire roll offline in late March. Not sure this is a success, but w/e.
2. Made 10 buyins at 1/2 live in ~ 30 hours of play.
3. Re-depositing my roll with a tremendous new focus and noise-canceling earphones.
Some June goals later!

congrats on the degree sir, that alone is quite an accomplishment - though I see you are pursuing further education which is an even greater accomplishment, so best of luck to you.
welcome back to poker land.

Can't really say much for goals ATM as FTP won't let me deposit a large amount until 6/8 because I've never used eChecks before...so I have $100 online and am rocking out the 10NLol. Should be back to 50nl some time early next week and then on to 100nl from there. I plan on getting in about 5K hands of 5nl and 10K of 50 before making the move up to 100. My total BR is something like $5400 so I'm well-rolled for 1-dizzle just need to remember the online game.
It's funny how poorly the live 1/2 players play. The transition from 1/2 live to 10nl is pretty much seemless, which is just lol. In fact, there are more 10nl players with some idea of starting hand req's than the live players. Anyhoo, a little chart type thingy:
10NL---XX hands until I can get my roll online for 25nl.
25NL---5K hands
50NL---10K hands
100NL---

JFC I'm so terrible. I literally feel like in the 40 total hours of playing poker I've had since February I've completely forgotten about ranges, adjustments...meh..Like, playing live probably accentuated my problems because the players are all transparent and there is very little thinking or adjusting to do. (This is of course not true, but that's unfortunately how I approached the games.) Combine that with the total crushing of the games I did and that's a recipe for extremely poor poker play.
Luckily this is nothing a lot of study can't get me on the path to fixing.

Blazed through the 5K of 25nl at like 9bb/100 and am moving on to 50nl. I also played some Rush Poker which is quite...interesting. My HUD cant update quickly enough to give me any info so it's a little more difficult..and while it was quite gratifying to play so many hands, it's really not what's best for me currently.
I sat down and applied ISF's to some post flop situations against nits (easy stuff) that I'll try and type up later and see if I can get some further input. Whenever poker seems like a grind, it's probably because the player doesn't have enough of an understanding of what the villains range is, and they aren't properly exploiting the shit out of them. People all play really really bad, and there's no reason I can't be crushing whatever level I apply myself at.

So I just had what was perhaps my most illuminating session of poker ever. There were three hands were I literally had my opponents hand range nailed and just completely owned them in one way or another. I also made many mistakes in these hands and it ultimately cost me money. This understanding of ranges lead to a tremendous level of confidence in my reads and plays. I can attribute this insight to a fair amount of study I had done preceding my session and my greater willingness to actually think while playing.
I also discovered that I still have issues with tilt. There was a 10 minute period after losing a big hand where I simply couldnt control myself emotionally. I berated a player for it. It was embarrassing and I'm even embarrassed to admit it. I later apologized to the player because I felt like a fool. I was a fool. Being successful is really just the dedication to constantly be improving in your craft, and I feel as though I learned new things about both poker and myself today.
So, for next time:
Let's not auto-pilot, eh? 4 tables max pls. kthx
If you're starting to tilt, walk away. The tables will, barring legislation, always be there.

Been playing some RUSH poker bc it's just SO FUCKING INTENSE!
Joking aside, it seems profitable, though the fact that I haven't won a pot where I got allin preflop is discouraging. Like 0-2 w/AA, 0-2 w/KK and it took me 4 times to realize that apparently you can't get alin profitably with QQ even if it's a 40bb stack. HE STILL HAS AA EVERY. Clearly a massive sample size here.

Mmk worst day of poker ever for me in terms of buyins lost. Felt pretty good about them all too (besides that sick feeling you have when you know it's KK vs AA...) 10NL for awhile, packin ~ 600 buyins.

Today my downswing hit a personal best 20buyins across 100-10nl. This is in only the last 35K hands or so, the majority of it happening at 50nl, a stake I beat for 3ptbbs for quite awhile before moving up to 100 last summer, then moving back down after making a large withdrawal (cursed imo). All 35K hands have taken place since January, because lol that's how fucking busy I am these days so I avg. 5K hands a monf. Anyways, I'm looking to rebound from this downswing (which thankfully was mitigated by timely bonuses and RB, essentially leaving me BE for 35K) and get back into the grinding groove. I'm seriously looking at poker as a semi-pro thing this next school year, basically because I have ~4 hours every day I can cleanly dedicate to playing and with my school stipend I really only need to make like 1K a month to live pretty well for the avg. college student. Making 1K a month, even at 50NL, is something I am more than capable of. I should probably just do it then.
Doom/gloom aside, I played 25nl today because I felt really confident in my game and when you're running bad it there's really nothing you can do otherwise. I played well, made a few buy-ins and generally felt good about what I was doing. Highlights of the day include getting 5bet shoved on bvb by a reg w/A9s while I held AK and later 5bet shoving vs. a super LAG w/55 and rivering teh set vs. his AA. I'm gonna do some HH review and study 3betting ranges and possible coldcalling some tomorrow.
#2/ISF's blog is pretty awesome and honestly how can I ever expect to be anything in this game if I don't play more hands and review more HHs?

25nl is going well. The regs are simply horrific. Running like 19/16 with a 49% ATC minraising from the button and 3x from the CO.

Was playing last night, not running well, and I got a huge whale to play me HU for his last $75 dollars online. Naturally I shipped it all for a nice profit on the night. Today, I got coolered w/middle set on a decent flop, but also took a 140bb 3b pot when a giant fish openshoved an 8 high flop w/TP and I snapped wTT and held. So perhaps I am running a little better. I've moved up to 50nl for good and trying to put in 2K hands a day at the minimum 8tabling. I should be able to hit 3ptbbs/100 minimum easily with good, focused playing with only 8 tables for 4 hours a day.

My BR crossed $6,000 today. YES I AM A BRM NIT 50NL FTW! I'm not sure when I'll start taking shots at 100nl. I'm probably like a 2ptbb winner at 50nl right now (in terms of skill and focus) and a BE 100nl player, so I'd like to become a 4ptbb 50nl winner and a 2ptbb 100nl winner by the end of the summer. That'll require some significant volume, more study, more poker-related discussion and just more poker in general. I play about 3 hrs a day on avg., 8 tables, but not enough time studying imo. I'll probably take shots in around 20K hands, which is about 2 weeks from now.
IRL news, I'm moving to Texas in about a monf.

I was nearly robbed last night. I awoke at 4:00am (just 15 minutes after going to bed) to the sound of the police chasing after and gunning down a man. My neighbor awakes this morning to find a set of MASTER KEYS, a knife, and other misc. sitting on her balcony. WHAT THE FUCK PPL?!!?!

3 hands, two vs. the exact same reg, AA<KK, 22<QQ on T52-T-Q board, and 44<QQ on 4JJ-Q-A board, in the space of 45 secs. I actually didn't go on tilt. Just closed 'em up! I also just finished the weirdest session of my poker career. I flopped a dozen sets in 1200 hands. Won like 2 stacks, a bunch of small pots, and lost two where I had TT on a T high board with 2 spades and it came spade/spade. So weird...1400 hands thus far today, and I will try to get it up to 2.5K tonight.

June results:
FR: 10/25/50nl +$99 (25K hands)
HU: 50nl +$350 (500 hands)
Live: 200nl +$1900 (30 hrs, so about 1K hands)
RB and Bonus: +$400
Total: +$2749, by far my best month of poker ever. It nearly doubled my BR from 3400 to 6100 (some of the net had to go to buying things I need for my upcoming move)!
A decent month of semi-pro poker imo. Too bad I pretty much sucked in all ways online, which should be my fucking main source of incomes . Slowly making my way back!

Took shot at 100nl, +5BI. Am currently tired as fuck but may study coldcalling a little. I played meh today but the tables were just so fucking good. Lost a 3 buyins today w/TPTK in 3bet pots vs. middle set, but such is life. I believe 3 bet pots to still be my greatest weakness so I need to address those tomorrow as well.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaajor leak id'd and hopefully fixed. I've stacked off w/AK or QQ at least 5 times AI pre vs. non-aggro donks and that's just killed my wr. Like, it's easily cut my wr in half if not more. It's rly sad, but of my 16 biggest losing pots, 6 of them are coolers, and the rest are me either getting it AI w/AK/QQ vs. a fairly tight player or spewing off my stack postflop. The common theme is they are all 3bet pots. Luckily it's an easy leak to fix if I'm focused and concentrate and realize I'm not playing 6m/donkament, but rather nitring.

Yeah, unless you have some history with this player, you are better off folding to 4bets unfortunately. Unless it is like BvB or BUvB and you should still have some sort of read about how light they will 4bet/stack off.

Moving to a new state (TX) for graduate school today through Sunday. Can't really play/update. Will be back on the grind hardcore on Monday for sure though bc I made $100 in RB last week without even playing that many hands and that's just fucking awesome (Also made some at the tables too lol).

Got all moved in and played a quick 710 hand sesh today. Got completely crushed by the deck, losing every all-in pot I played w/50%eq or better. Such is like.

So I have what I like to call "compounding spew", which is simply that I make small, simple mistakes preflop that snowball into larger ones postflop. To solve this, I'm becoming just a little nittier (14/11 down from 16/12 or so) and actually playing more tables. Now, playing more tables is not the way to get better, but I is working wonders for me in forcing me to play nittier and therefore more ABC. I'm 16tabling at the moment and playing with such clarity that I'm excited to play. I mean, ldo, nits have strong ranges like in every spot and shit so hurrah. Mass tabling as a cure for FPS FTW!!!
Got in 3.7K hands today, which I believe is a personal best. I'm shooting for 80-100K hands in August, which should probably work assuming I don't dick around. I also kinda need to get the volume in since I do play to live now...lol.

Big spike is from 100nl when I won/lost 5buyins in like 2 sessions. When it starts to fall =runbad and towards the end = my rediscovery of the b/f. I believe the final tally for the month was only 2BI under expectation, so that's fine (though like 40% of my lame ass wr ). Not sure how much I made in rb tbh.

I made $355 in RB and $225 at the tables (I made 2 buyins at 25nl Rush last night woot) in 29K hands, which is still bad but at least I crossed the $500 net mark. Today's plans involve about 4K hands (1.2 down already, played terrible and got lucky to end down 22bb) then I'm driving home for my sister's birthday dinner. Shouldn't get more than 1K hands in on Monday or Tuesday, maybe 2K if I'm lucky, so I'll have to grind like a fiend the rest of the week to hit my goals, outlined below. I just didn't b/f life 4 hands in a row and the donks hit 2p vs my TPTK and I spewed off about 130bb. It was so bad.
I can imagine myself netting about $1K in RB this month, so let's hope I can win at any sort of decent clip and have a solid $2K net month. I only need to make $1K to live really comfortably so anything more than that is just tits +BR boost.
I'm also considering switching to Rush Poker since I'll be getting a PC laptop next week. Not sure. It's addicting and easy to get hands in, but I hear the variance can be rough. My coach is quite good at it and it would probably be a boon for me to try it.
August goals:
-3,500 Daily (about 3.25hrs while 16-tabling), and >100K hands net on the month.
-Watch at least 4 videos a week.
-Win at at least 1.5 ptbbs over that sample.
-B/f without reads otherwise.
-Post more.
-Read and make more strategy posts.
-Continue winning at life.

I'm playing some of the worst poker of my life. Such meh. I've run good though to be up for the month. I've probably lost $300 from spew this month. That's a ton of money. Let's hope I can fold tomorrow. Sighsville.
Oh and quads are always good

Today was really great. I played well. I only missed one big fold (i kno im that lame) and I won 2.5 buyins. Hardly spewed at all. I'm adjusting my monthly goal to 50K hands because I am playing half as many tables so I'm getting in half as many table hours. I'm pretty much 100% a 100nl reg now, which feels good. I know that this stake is not above me, and there are still a number of extremely terrible regs and there are probably more fish than at 50nl. I've been set/set 6 times which is really weird for only like 13K hands on the month but w/e. I'm doing well and recovering from my 4K hands of absolute spew to start the month. Pretty much on a heater so let it ride. My W/R would be ridic had I not spewed off 3 buyins to start the month GL to Me.
