it was for someone looking for potential candidates for a study group who didn't want their name outed. the conspiracy theory thing is really getting old and is completely unfounded.

Cool, glad to hear it. Ignoring questions is a good way to arouse interest. A lot of posts raised questions in that thread that were subsequently ignored. I figured that cross-posting here may at least elicit a response. Seems that it worked. Cheers.

Is it seriously that big of a deal to you? If you aren't comfortable answering the questions, don't answer them. Pretty simple, no?

cross-posting in the "feedback" forum with a melodramatic thread title pretty much forced a response, but I can't say I approve of the tactic. There was nothing about the questionnaire thread that even suggested FTR might be sharing email addresses with third parties or anything like that, and the implication of that possibility is a little offensive.
I get why the vagueness of the thread piqued people's curiosity, but I assume bikes & co had good reason for the vagueness. There was no need to force his hand like this just to satisfy your curiosity and baseless fears about "security of information" surrounding a completely voluntary questionnaire.

there was no intent to offend, for that i apologise.

it was the fact that bikes chose not to reply to the questions raised in the original thread that made me think these fears may not be baseless. And i've been recently getting a lot of poker spam to e-mail addresses that are only attached to a couple of poker places. It got me thinking, that's all. I mean, if the questionnaire was to be used for commercial purposes (e.g. staking etc) of any sort then it would be somewhat deceptive and offensive to not state that in the thread. I'm glad that this hasn't occurred. Anyway, I used my initiative and got a response. Suggestions for how else i could have got a response?

Seen the thread and title so clicked because I was curious. After reading the post it just seemed like you were taking offense to bikes asking ppl to answer some questions when bikes has never to my knowledge done anything scammu/fishy before. And seeings how bikes is a good friend of mine online and offline I figured id ask why youre getting so bent out of shape about it.

makes sense. I mean, i woulda just sent him a pm to ask what was going on with the questionnaire, but didn't back my chances of seeing a reply. I wish he'd answered the questions in that thread, then this thread would never have happened.

First off, posting those accusations are completely inappropriate. The mere insinuation that I would jeopardize the trust FTR puts in me or the trust people put in FTR is so absurd and offensive that I don't even know how to respond to it.
It comes down to this. FTR is a business, and every time you post accusations like this you hurt FTR's image. That is unacceptable. It's unacceptable to me and it should be unacceptable to everyone who posts on this site because all you do by posting this is weaken FTR a little more. Not only are your accusations unfounded and without basis, never in anyone's wildest dreams would FTR endorse such a heinous shill.

First off, I made zero accusations. I asked a few questions in the questionnaire thread, which you could have answered easily - but chose not to. I repeated those questions here because I found the fact that they were being ignored a little strange.
Second, i made a mistake posting this thread. I should have simply pm-ed another mod (e.g. d0zer) about the questions raised in the original questionnaire thread. It's a shame that you didn't reply to the questions i and others raised in that thread. It's a shame I didn't think to resort to pms to other mods - I mean, ideally this thread would never have happened.
it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Bikes, I'm happy to talk about this via pms or whatever - I'm pretty sure that any to and fro bitching in this thread is also not great for the business that is FTR.
edit: cos gala don't want it locked

No lockage of the potential dramabomb! FTR needs one to kick some life into the place now that jyms is not longer as angry as he used to be.
In the interest of fanning the flames I'd like to state that bikes and his posse need to grow thicker skin. d0zer's questions/"accusations" are totally reasonable. Nothing wrong with asking some questions about something before getting involved. Putting it in the feedback forum once he was ignored seems fine too considering others were curious of the same things. Being an internet forum admin far from makes someone an infallible person, he has no reason to trust bikes wouldn't intentionally or unintentionally do something with his info that he doesn't want done with it.

Then he didn't need to answer the questions, nor did he have to try to play Mother Goose to everyone else in the BC.
We are all adults in this forum, fully capable of making our own decision on whether or not to answer some questions, are we not?

Maybe he wanted to take part because it sounded interesting to him, but simply required some clarification before he did so.
No one at any point complained that they were required to answer the questions. Not too sure where the idea that he had to answer the questions came from.

Bikes made it kind of clear he wasn't the one hosting the questionnaire, he didn't have to answer any of the questions about it itt if he didn't want to.
I never said anyone complained about it. People were asking questions about what it was for, etc and bikes obv didn't want to reveal who it was. He did not demand anyone answer the questions, so there should be no reason for this thread.

disagree with bold about 100%
it definitely wasn't clear to me that he was posting the questionnaire on behalf of someone else, as per the use of, e.g., 'us' below:

Thats pretty amusing considering it says in your op that he forwarded responses to him/her.
Obviously bikes is going to read the responses. THEYRE BEING PM'D TO HIM. Doesn't mean he's the one hosting the survey.

No one said he had to answer the questions. The whole issue was everyone getting all butthurt on his behalf that the questions were asked in the first place. If you bring something up like that and keep this little air of secrecy about it, expect people to ask questions.

Lol, now you're back on this like people are accusing him of demanding they answer questions. Like I said in my previous post, daven most likely wanted to participate in the questionnaire but had some questions before he did so.
It's like if I tell you I have a computer for sale you can purchase if you want, and get all pissed off when you ask me what it's gonna cost because it's not like I'm demanding you buy it off me or anything.

Point is nowhere in that survey did bikes ask for personal information that should cause security issues. And if he wanted it for that purpose, why would he need a survey to do it? Our emails and ip info are there for taking for any mod. Don't get all the hostility.

@ dustin - note that this thread could have been over in four posts. Bikes posted answers, i said thanks. Then people got excited about it.
agree that he doesn't have to answer questions. But I'm pretty sure that people are still allowed to ask questions. And when someone doesn't answer questions like those ones it obviously leads to further curiousity

true. Was wondering re the op in that original q thread that generated the 'what's going on posts' from other posters.
the questions in the op of this thread are pretty much questions worth answering - i mean, it's easy to say, "nope, we're not passing on information beyond answers and FTR username to anyone" and "I don't feel like saying what the questionnaire is for" - second answer will obviously lead to more questions etc but whatever
I'm glad these questions have been answered now. That was the point of this thread. But it seems like people are upset that questions were asked, or that I wanted answers to the questions I asked. Fair enough, get upset by whatever you choose to get upset by imo.
