Is there anything that can be done about how the board treats the auto URLs when they get quoted in some text?

Here is the reason it might be a bigger problem. If quotes get nested 3 or 4 times, the problem repeats itself and then you run into the url string stretching the page size out past any reasonable resolution.
It might be a nit, but I see quite a few quotes get nested in high traffic threads and if they have the auto URL thingy in there, it just makes things look bad.

It is indeed tricky, but I'll see if Eric can figure something out.

I've seen the stretching issue before in Firefox but not IE. Do you have an example where it stretches in IE?
We've already customized the word censor quite a bit, we'll look at the quote issue again to see how much time would be involved in fixing it. We'd like to spend the time to fix it but as you know we are spending time on a lot of other projects right now.

There's a way around the auto URL thingy. Instead of just writing Party Poker write 'Par' and then insert a set of italic tags then finish the word, do the same for poker and it will appear as Party Poker.
Obviously don't do this in posts but if you are quoting a post you could just do this to make it look pretty, until they sort the problem out of course.

What is this IE you speak of? I only use Firefox and that was where I saw this behavior.

Understandable. I do alot of interface testing at work so nitpicking is part of my job. I just wanted to throw it out there. You guys have put in a ton of effort revamping the site and it looks great.

I was just thinking about this.
Is it possible to have the autolinks link you to a page without PokerStars or Partypoker in the url and have that page automatically redirect you to the pokerstars and partypoker websites?
Too expensive?

It's actually doing that now, check out the destination when you hover over the link. Is that what you mean?

I fixed this for new posts. In other words if someone makes a new post today with partypoker and someone else quotes it tomorrow then it comes through clean.
Older posts like the ones in this thread that already have the url in them were not fixed. Likewise if you quote old topics that already have the problem then it remains.

I don't want be a complainer .
I've noticed this primarily in the Private Messages. You don't even have to be quoting in the PM, and the url-thingee mucks up making your message difficult to decipher.
Why don't the normal-looking links appear in PMs like they do in the forum?

It would had the mod they used to fix this problem not recently expire during an upgrade of the board.
All mods did, like WPP and post count being disabled in certain forums.

Sorry, the quoting problem had resurfaced over the last week due to the upgrade. I just put the customization fix back in place.
The test below shows that things are cool again:
