Say the final board in a game of texas holdem is

8 9 3 J Q

And you look down at your cards and are delighted to see

A T

For a 1 card straight flush.

Is it the nuts?

I have heard many commentators say that T K is the nuts on this board, and therefore A T Is not the nuts.

I think K T is the nuts, but i argue that A T is also the nuts since you know it isnt possible for another player to hold K T if you already have the T.
gabe: Ive dropped almost 100k in the past 35 days.

bigspenda73: But how much did you win?

The nuts is the best possible hand from the cards that are shown.

The Ts gives you the nuts since it's the best possible hand. Doesn't matter if you have the Ks to go along with it.

moot. how many decks have two spade-tens? none.

if someone asks a dumb question in a forest, but no one is there to tell them how dumb it is: is it still dumb? yes.

I know it isnt going to win you any money knowing the answer but its still something i was interested to know. If you think the question is too dumb to bother to answer then dont bother answering.

If you have the Ts, it's absolutely the nuts...
The nice part (does the nuts need a nice part?) about the Ts is that AsKs is going to think THEY have the nuts (even with the one out), since the odds of you getting the Ts are so small. AsKs will get sucked in alot in that scenario as long as they have good pot odds. So I would say it's total slow roll time. Just don't overplay and you will suck in all the pocket spades on the table. Or fake the bluff and go all in if you have the acting chops to sell it as a pot grab.
I'd just hate to be the one holding AsKs in this scenario. Because I would call you every time.

BankItDrew will become famous soon enough
Your hand with the ace and ten of spades is the nuts because no one can have a better hand than you. A better hand would be the king and ten of spades but it is not possible because you have one of those two cards.

im sorry, im just horribly sarcastic by nature. no offence intended.

same situation for holding the case card on a tripped board. you have the nuts, but the PURE nuts would be with the ace kicker.

Another example is holding KQ on a KKQT 8 board.
You have the nuts.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.
