You should post a couple of the key hands you lost. It is highly unlikely that you can loose 5 2NL buy-ins straight without a major leak in your game.

Deposit $50 and have a proper starting bankroll at $2NL.

I understand you can't afford to deposit right now, which is fine. However, keep in mind the play money will do nothing for your game other than the most basic principles. You might want to look into playing some freeroll tournaments. The competition still sucks, but at least their is a payout worth some monetary value. Plus if you cash in one you may be able to start playing real money again before you are able to deposit.

i kind of disagree that play money wont help...much. i think it can help a lot, personally.
play money teaches you all about bad beats, and which ones are truly bad. it teaches you when your position SUCKS. it teaches you, if you read as well, that KTo sucks in a 6way pot. it teaches you that 78s can be gold 6way. it allows you to learn on the VERY cheap. and, if you play there awhile, it will teach you the most important thing of all:
the long run ALWAYS wins out...but, it can be a really, really looooooong run.
read, study, post hands, learn from the responses. lather, rinse, repeat. you'll get it...i promise.

Yes, play money won't teach you much about real-life play, but you see a lot of hands for free. You get a feel for how often you'll make a hand, flop a pair/set... You should be able to easily make a couple of buy-ins per hour in a play-money game. Freerolls are a good idea too.
I saw the thread where you posted your hands.
I should have added "don't post coolers" AA vs KK is a no-brainer. If you fold KK or even QQ pre-flop at 2NL you are giving away perfectly good money.
Post hands where you weren't sure if you made the right play. This includes hands you won.

I didn't intend to sound as if play money wouldn't teach you anything. A complete newbie would learn alot from playing play money and just getting in some experience etc. And as long as you don't go with the crowd and start shoving preflop with 74o etc then you can learn a few principles, such as reading the board and your hand, what actions you can take etc. But as far as anything that goes to playing the player will be hard to pick up on because the normal play money player knows almost nothng so you won't be able to create accurate hand ranges, c-betting with air will be pretty useless, bluffs.....uhhhh...no! But it's better than not playing at all.

Sorry to here your bankroll suffered, I'm kinda in the same situation, I just started on PS w/ the complimentary $5 & am building it up.
Playmoney isn't useless, but the freerolls are a much better way to improve. Try the $50 freerolls on Absolute Poker, they have several running each day, & w/ less traffic than PS.

Good for you I hope it keeps going.
I must agree about the play money, It's really important to make sure you don't develop bad habits in there. It's so hard to play also. I have got 1k up to 600k on pkr.com fairly easily. The problem is idiots go all in with 40k, 60k with like one Ace and a low kicker, or 45 suited or something stupid. It was the first poker I ever played and so for me personally it was definately valuable as it let me cut my teeth, but - the most important thing when playing in play money games I think is to completely ignore any pre-flop 'insights' you pick up.
I must admit I've been guilty of it myself in play money rings, getting bored because theres only so far you can go, you have half a million chips and the table buy in is 40k... and just hitting all in in a marginal situation, and winning. It's just fun I think.
From what I've seen - I think the two forms, play and real, should almost be treated as two entirely different games.
I'd say the same about free roll. It's just so different from a sng that it's almost a completely different game. IMO.

Just remember a freeroll is different than a sng. Simply because a freeroll is an mtt, which also differs from a sng.
MTT = Multi-Table Tourney
SNG = Sit n' Go (also known as STT = Single Table Tourney)

Play money won't teach you shit besides the rules of the game you're playing.

i dont play with play chips, maybe once and awhile if its like 1k buy in with 5000 ppl i might do it, just because you can trade 1 million play chips for 10$, so if im out of money i might do that, but not on a frequent basis,
i have a question tho...stacks mentioned that sng is also known as STT, i was wondering why they have MTT's listed under SNG in pokerstars? like the .10c 360 player, and 1.10 45 players, are these not considered SnG's ?...a little confused lol

Usually the SNG/multi-table sng's start when they're full. The tourneys have a schedule.

Now that I think about it, some sites' play money has monetary value. I think you can sell 100k Stars play money chips for $1 to certain people. Google it and see what you come up with. Also check AP, I think they have a similar deal built into their software.
