What is a good winrate at the lowest levels (say .05/.02) in BB/100? How do you know it's time to move up?

Short answer is it's time to move up when your bankroll allows for it. If you're winning, your bankroll will improve. If you're only winning 2bb/100 you're still winning. It will just take you longer to move up each time you do.

A lot of the guys in here will also recommend getting at least 10-15k hands in at a given level to make sure your winning is the result of good play rather than just running hot for a couple thousand hands.

This question gets asked a lot and the best answer I think is that a good player shouldn't be at any one particular micro-stakes long enough to become close to realizing what their true win-rate is (if that's even possible) let alone characterize it as good or bad. But, if you want something to compare to, check out my blog "How High Can You Get". I started from $2NL and am currently @ $50NL on the verge I believe of being able to play $100NL. You can see my win-rate, graphs, volume, and time it took to complete each stake.

If you want to check out similar results of other players, check out the Blogs and Operations section of the site and there should be plenty of ones to choose from.

Good luck on your own journey.

I swear to god, theres a new one of these every other week. Winrate isn't that important. It's juat a (very nice) by product of playing poker. Ppl beat the same level for different amounts. I beat 5nl for 11BB/100ish. That being said, theres plenty others who have beat it for more, and even more who beat it for less, so just focus on playing good and let the winrate follow.

How do you get hand histories for 10k-15k hands? PS only allows for 100, otherwise you have to do dates. Do you just have to play for a few days/weeks and manually keep track, then request a hand history, or is there an easier method?

I see they do not have a Mac version yet, but it's coming soon. I'll just have to donk it up until then.

I'm pretty sure poker tracker tells you to do this but, go into pokerstars options and set it to save hand histories, and i just put like 9999 in for how many days to keep it saved. ya

PT3 OR Holdem Manager.

They do pretty much the same job so dont get both. I cant say which though. HEM is far superior to PT2, but ive never used PT3.
gabe: Ive dropped almost 100k in the past 35 days.

I've been using PT3. I quite like it but I've never used HEM. I don't think you can go wrong with either, really. It's like beer (what isn't!). Everyone has their personal preference.

Just as a matter of fact, and to get back to OP's original question. You will never play at any level in the micro stakes long enough to figure out your true winrate. 50K hands is sometimes enough to get your BR big enough to move up and that is nowhere near enough hands to know for sure.

I downloaded Poker Copilot, since I have a Mac. Yes, I wish I had found this on day one. Unfortunately, I only hand my PS hand history saved for 30 days, but even that info was quite useful. Don't mean to thread jack here, so I'm gonna look for threads on stats other than winrate. Thanks again for the rec, Kiwi.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but when are these big blinds/100 or pt big bets/100? I see people use these interchangeably (I think) and am not sure if the lowercase "bb" always means one thing, while "BB" always means another.

I'm a micro grinder too and am curious to know for the same reason. Since big blinds are half as much as PokerTracker Big Bets, it might be nice to know.

The next one used "bb". Are you all clear about which one you're talking about?

ptbb/100 is a stupid convention but it's still the current one so whatever.
