If you've ever wondered the game theoretical reason why antes exist in our game, this video answers that question:

In short, without antes, poker's equilibrium consists of players only playing the single best hand possible or no hands at all. That would lead to a very boring game. You might have heard people say that blinds and antes "force the action"; truth be told, there would be absolutely no action at all without them.

Dear FTR noob,

Welcome to 1998. These are good times. The movie "Rounders" is coming out this year. Green Day doesn't suck yet. Clinton is still President. Newfish is only 3 years old and won't be annoying people on the interwebs for a good decade. Seriously, not bad at all.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.
