Hi All,
The other day while playing with some friends, we ending up in this situation. 2 players are left, one has a pair of 2s the other has an Ace and a 3 card.
On the table are a pair of 7s and a pair of Kings and a 5 card.
Who wins this? and why?
Cheers

Your obviously thinking of the game that also includes the offsuit cards (Jo, Ao, etc.).. Yeah I know, not funny, but oh well.
To original poster, what occurred in this hand is known as counterfeiting. THe guy with 22 had his pair counterfeited by the 2 higher pair on the board. Also remember in Hold-em, you use the 7 cards to form the best 5 card hand. This can be down any way possible. There will be times, when you use both of the cards in your hand, and times when you don't use a single card from your hand, yet instead "play the board".

Another good thing to realize is the if the ace had been on the board and not in a players hand they would have split that pot. Another variation on this is when someone has AA or KK and are up against a player who flopped 2 pair. The overpair is behind and but the 3rd card on the flop is another out for them IE
AA vs Q4 - flop Q,4,10, turn card is another 10 you now have aces and 10's vs queens and tens. the 4's get cancelled out.
I only mention this because it happend a couple cash games ago for my group and a couple of the beginners hadn't realized that possibility.
cheers

Then he must down 2 beers before putting the bat on the ground, placing his forehead on the bat, then completing 6 full revolutions. If he hits the softball before striking out, he wins an opportunity to win half the pot IF he can successfully complete the Elminator in a time equal to or less than that of the previous competitor's.

We get this question about once a month, no worries.
In fact, I knew it was a counterfeited two pair hand before I even opened it.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.
