I don't know if I'm scatter brain but the board showed
6-7-8-9-10 (not in that order)
player 1 had J-9
player 2 had J-6
I called it as a split pot because of the straight but player 1 argued that his 9 was higher then the 6 so player 1 should of taken the pot.
I disagreed but it wasn't my house so I let it slide.
Was I wrong on this hand?

Lol I wonder how many of these we see a month. I also wonder what's going through the guy's head when he said the 9 was higher than the 6.

Simple. He makes a hand with 7 cards instead of 5.
His house. His rules.

It's like that game in Big Daddy. It's called I win. No matter what he has, he wins.
Pay attention to what's going on. Jeez, freaking amateurs.

As everyone has already said: nope, you were right.
A useful method in this situation is to actually lay out the five-card hand so everyone can see the hands. Some dealers indicate the winning hand by sliding the relevant community cards and hole cards together to show the winning hand(s).
If someone wants to argue that they should get six cards in their hand then that's just stupid. If there's any money in the game then either find some rules for them to read or walk away... that kind of ignorance can cost you money.
