Sets are what I make most money from, but I also loose quite a lot when I slowplay my sets sometimes. So I am wondering how others play them. (50NL FullTilt at the moment)

In what situations do you slowplay a flopped set? Position, reads, pre-flop action, what matters the most? And in what situations do you bet out with them?

Do you ever lay down to another set, or do you just pay them off? It happens very rarely but today I lost to a set of aces, I believe it is +EV to just pay them of though, cause people often go all in with top-pair and two pair where I play.

It generally depends what else is on the board. If its a rainbow flop with no possible straight draw, then you slow play to let your opponents catch up. If theres two to the flush or two to the straight on the board, you can not afford to give a free card - you must make them pay to draw.

I never worry about a higher set. It happens but rarely enough to not fear it. I rarely slowplay a set. It sucks to hit your set, check to the turn or river only to find someone betting back at you finally…at showdown you discover he hit his straight.
Stakes: Playing $0.10/$0.25 NL

I play a set two different ways based on situation.

Unraised pot: I will treat it like top pair, except I will reraise if I'm reraised.

Calling a raise: Bet out a small bet looking for aggressor to reraise. Works very well with flush draw as it looks like you're betting your draw.

It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

I posted my slowplayed set from last night in hand histories. I had 55 and the board was AQ5 - which is what you really want. I min-raised and the guy with 99 hit his set on the turn. If I bet 3/4 pot or more he probably would have folded. I don't mind paying off the higher set though.

A bit of a hijack, but what if the board has 3 to a flush? Push, check call chasing a boat, or...

I usually fast play if the flop is two suited or two to a straight;I will smooth call slowplay if it's rags.Generally I check smooth call turn if I complete to the boat.River is money of course if it holds up.
