Question When / Why do you show your cards when folding?

I have auto-muck set and I always thought showing my cards is just giving away information I don't have to. Clearly, this is not the whole truth, and I'm thinking of turning off the auto-muck and showing sometimes. But when?

This is all prompted by a recent post:

What considerations do you make when showing a fold?
Are they different reasons than showing when you WWS?
    How should I approach this?

I rarely show my cards, I only do it if I feel I can manipulate a villain's approach in future hands. Showing you fold AK tptk to a stupid open shove tells him that he can push me off tptk by open shoving. So maybe next time he thinks I have tptk he open shoves a wider range, making my tptk a much stronger hand.

Likewise, maybe I show a bluff because I think there's a good chance it will tilt villain into making mistakes.

I only show my hand if I have a good reason to.

I don't always show my cards.

But when I do, it's because I'm playing live and interested in some luls

I'll never show unless playing against mates - why give away free information, even when you badly want to show a bluff or the nuts?

    This.

I think in the long run showing my hand has cost me money.

When you do that you also give away information to the rest of the table... high price to pay to influence the play of a single villain imo.

What's important to me when showing cards is to know who you shown what to, and have some idea how that information might be perceived, and how they might try to exploit this tendency. When I show my cards, I adjust my game to try and counter expected villain adjustments. Some adjust better than I do, sure, but most of them don't because I play micros and almost everyone is a retard.

I doubt I'd be showing bluffs and big folds at 50nl.
