Ok player X is using strict bankroll management and poker office in ring games 50 buy ins per limit
Lets say he becomes rolled for 50 buy ins at the next limit but fails to be profitable at this tier
So he moves back down before until he's rolled again and has another stab at the next limit
He fails again, and again and again.
Obviously he has reached a plateau so probably needs coaching or something that can improve his game
However the limit he beats is very comfortable to make a decent weekly
should he just stay at this limit and grind away?

Always shoot for better imo. Some people do want to be microstake whores, I can't see any fun in that...

well I agree with bhaley but I don't think you should waste like $40/hr on coaching at the micros. Just try to find some leaks in your game, how other people play differently at the next level, and how you should adjust your game to play against them. When you aren't actually playing you should be posting some hands from your session on the interwebz and get other's opinions. Also you should read articles/books and try to actually use the information in them.

Your mentality at poker should be "I'm going to win this". You play poker to win (I'm not talking monetary winnings here.... if you focus on those, you will not do good as a poker player). So you need to ask yourself "What makes me win this limit, but not the next?"

Is it a mental block?
Money Scared?
Think that it's the "coolest" thing to be at this new limit?

As you move up in limits, you're going to lose money. Consider this a learning "Tax". What you need to do is go back through your hands on that limit and figure out where you are leaking. Are you too aggressive (because the lower limit calls for it) and these players at the next limit use that against you? Poker is about finding an edge. Every limit has its own unique "edges".

At 2NL for example, I've noticed many players that fold instantly to any C-bet I make. So I do this and take down the pot a lot. Would this work at 10NL or 25NL? Don't know, aint played there, but I have a feeling that it'll catch on faster and soon people will be firing a raise at me to try and get me to shut down.

If your still not able to see in hand histories where your losing, then pick up a book and read. Maybe you can even find a book on that limit specifically. There's thousands of poker books out there, go get them. They do help. If your not going to study the game to get better, you won't go anywhere.

While your doing this, build yourself up to 75 Buy-ins this time. Or maybe even a hundred. Guides are just guides, sometimes your still scared of loosing money until your a tad over-rolled for it.

Most important of all: If you've got any doubt about how a hand got played, POST IT!!! There are tons of people here who will help you, but make sure to listen and actually apply the methods they are telling you.... They aren't just blowing smoke up your ass.

PS: Maybe providing a little more detail would help. What limit are you trying to get into? No need to be secretive about it. What are your personal stats over 20K hands for your current limit?

I would say it depends on what you look for in poker, and it depends on the limit and profit you're running at at the level you're dominating. If I'm clearing $200+ a week profit at the lower level, but making nothing if I step up, I probably stay where I am, but if I'm making $5 a week at 0.02nl and losing $1 a week at 0.10nl, I'm gonna keep trying to crack 0.10nl so long as I'm rolled for it.
