im trying to get an idea of the shape of the poker foodchain/pyramid scheme. while i suppose i could simply go to the major sites and add up all the players at each stakes level, im far too lazy for that. FTR seems like a large enough sample size to get an accurate reading if most people answer the poll.

my guess is that it looks something like this:

micro stakes (<25nl, ie .01/.02-.05/.10centblinds) 25%
25nl 20%
50nl 15%
100nl 15%
200nl 10%
400nl 5%
600nl 5%
1000nl 3%
>1000nl (ie 10/20, 25/50, 50/100$blinds) 2%

when answering, be honest. im not asking what the HIGHEST stakes you have ever played, or even what stakes you are currently playing; but rather what is the stakes level you have logged the greatest number of hands with a positive winrate.

what do you think your final potential is within the poker foodchain, and as a model, what is the optimal place to be within it?

i didnt think there was any easy way to equate limit:NL (ie, ive read that generally limit stakes need to be muliplied by 2/3x to equate to NL games)

anyway, im a selfish person and i play NL and thats what im mainly interested in.

I play $10NL though I'm rolled for $25. I expect to make the jump at some point when I'm way, way overrolled (maybe end of summer).

Optimally, one would want to maximize earnings/hour played. For some that might be micro-stakes (they play to gamble, and expect to lose) for others that may be $100NL or $2000NL.

Final potential? With patience and persistance I know I can comfortably make it to $100NL+. I'd say, "the sky's the limit", but I know my wife would want to "reallocate" fund were they to approach the $5K+ level (and in all likelihood the $1K+ level).

I think it will be scewed to the micro and lower limits because where you post is where that level will vote. In the beginner section it's bound to have a larger micro population.

hmm. perhaps. i didnt feel comfortable putting it anywhere else. hopefully most ppl pick it up off the main page. i dont really expect this to be super scientific

I really dont think your estimates are going to be very accurate. Id guess $50nl and under will be a total of atleast 75%; however, its not going to be very accurate because not every member will respond.

100 NL 6 or 8 max, 100 PLO and o/8.
Save for perhaps the smallest stakes on any site, i.e. the .01/.02 game on UB or Stars, 100 is the by far the donkiest IMHO. Stakes big enough so that the money gets respect, but not too big to where people feel the need to actually be good or well-prepared.
Gambool!
As far as the food chain goes, I look at it as a get in where you fit in mentality; Along the same lines as playing speed chess for money or pocket billiards for money, you don't need to be the best or great, neccesarily; You simply need to be better than somebody who is willing to give you his money.
Coincidentally, I was talking with an old friend the other day, a cash game billiards player, and he was talking about two differnt shooters our area (midwest/chicago) , and how one was a much more profitable player than the other, even though he wasn't as talented, because he picked his game and spots much better, while the other consistently let his ego get in the way and played players his speed or above.
I'm not sure what aok's respect level is at these days, but among the many neat things I read of his, one was somthing to the effect, 'if i can find a group of second graders with $200 bankrolls, im' gonna bust them, i'm not looking to find the toughest games in order to prove myself'

jackvance is an unknown quantity at this point
10NL, 20NL and 50NL. I was supposed to quit playing for my exams now, and I pre-emptively cashed out down to $100.. but today I decided I could play 10NL as a break between studying cuz it's relaxing anyway at such a low stake. But normally I'd play higher, up to 50NL if I was rolled for it.. dunno which to choose lol.

I answered 50NL because not only am I gradually moving up to it at the moment, but the majority of my hands have been played at £25NL which is, thanks to the weakness of the dollar, practically $50 in itself.

I had to answer "Micro", but I fully intend to move back to 25NL in the very near future. Whilst it is not the most stable level in the world, it's better than the micro limits.

But, whilst I am learning the basics, micro is where I am at.
