It would be nice if anyone could link some statistical evidence to show what has more variance or if there's a program that can find out you can run it and tell me that would be awesome!

I've found HU SNGs have improved my game enormously, but the variance can be rough, and that was only after I became a competent enough cash player to comfortably beat 10nl. I know there's a lot of people who'd disagree, but I don't think either are great games for the absolute beginner.
