At a table today there was a guy who on more than one occasion would go all in after a flop that was garbage. Now, more than likely he's just buying a pot 95% of the time. However, is calling this type of thing ever +EV unless you have KK or AA?

I laid down Queens against him (raised 5xBB preflop) when he did this because the board was 10/8/7 with two suited cards and I could just see him having trips or drawing to a flush. My thought is that it's not worth getting stacked by a suckout when there are two cards left to go. Correct?

Not nearly enough info. Is he a shortstack? Is he a fullstack pushing 90BBs into a 10BB pot?

Is he doing this on 20% of flops he's involved in, or 50%? or 100%?

Basically the answer to your question is -- don't be afraid to call raises from maniacs with good hands (like queens as an overpair). But make sure you get a good read that he's doing this with wide enough of a range on the flop to make it profitable.

If he's done this 3 or 4 flops in a row I snap call with queens as an overpair.

You should open up your calling range against this guy, not close it up. Folding QQ was a mistake (based on the info from your post). It will increase your variance, but definitely +ev to call more often.

GAMB00L with him please!

You're so easy to run over when you think like that.

Firstly, nobody can have trips on this board. Trips are when the flop is paired and Villain has one of the paired cards as his hole cards. A set is when Villain has a pocket pair and hits a third card on the board.

Secondly, I think you should download Pokerstove and have a play with it. Poker is not really a game about cards, it's a game of (amongst other things) comparing pot odds to the chance of your hand being best and holding up to the river. If you get your chips in good (ie. with pot odds that are better than the chance of your hand being best) then suckouts, while frustrating, don't matter.

Not sure how many chips are in the pot already or how big the blinds are but against a likely selection of hands you're almost 50/50 to win. It's rare that you wouldn't be getting pot odds to call his shove, particularly considering that most low buyin players won't overbet shove hands that have you crushed (flopped straight, sets etc.):

QFT.

I love playing with maniacs like this cause I hate playing NITs where I'm sure that my queens on a T high board are beat. Open your ranges more makes the game more fun.

i love gamb0ling (intelligently)
