I've been watching the pros these past couple of weeks.

It seems like every hand on tv is an interesting one. Should I assume that they are cutting out dozens of hands where nobody has anything to work with?

I was particularly astonished watching the WPT event at Turks & Caicos. The dude pulled off so many incredible hands, including making virtually all of his long-shot draws... it's hard to believe it wasn't rigged...

What to FTR folks think about the value of watching & learning from TV?

Obv most poker shows (all?) cut out the non-interesting hands. If they didn't the shows would be incredibly long, and would be more boring than it already is to watch.

Learning from watching players play might help, but not as much as the other stuff you could do to learn. Also, some of the TV players are quite bad.

The only poker show on TV that's worth a shit is HSP. Everything is else is purely for entertainment value. I wouldn't put much stock in anything you see someone do on TV, because you're missing so many parts of how and why they did what they did. Don't fall into that Daniel Negreanu crowd of playing SCs when you have no clue on how or why you're playing them. Just an example of why emulating TV poker is -EV on so many levels.

I hate to state the obvious after this has already been beat to death, but pay attention to position when you're watching poker on TV. The blinds jump around instead of following the normal clockwise rotation. Obviously skipping hands to keep the show interesting.

And Jack Wrangler was a much funnier screen name.
