Fellow FTRs,

Tomorrow, when Hollywood Poker shuts down to US players, I will be hanging 'em up. My 21 yo son started online about 3 years ago (playing 6 max) and suggested I give it a try last year. Starting at Pacific, playing exclusively SnGs, I managed to lose on a rather consistent basis. By December, I moved to Hollywood and started at 15PL FR. Lost some more.

In January, I stumbled onto this forum. For my February birthday, my SO staked me $200. For me, it was a perfect match. FTR and $200. Over the next 6 months, playing 25NL FR, I was able to earn enough to make my $400 car payment each month. Were it not for a few forays into 50NL (all disasters ... played too loose, then too tight, then just plain stupid ... playing scared a lot for some reason), I would have been up much more.

With the guidance (I won't name names because there are too many) of FTR, I have played the last 60,000 (125K overall) hands running around 7.5PTBBs. Not bad for an old guy like me.

Since I recently changed jobs (for the better), I have decided to close out my 14 month poker career. Best of luck to you all. I'll be checking in from time to time because this stuff is too much fun to quit cold turkey.

Who knows tho ... I may miss the game too much ... but for now it's time to "turn out the lights, the party's over".

That sux. Don't hang 'em up for good, is all I can say. Online poker isn't dead, just wounded. Hopefully, we'll see you on a US friendy room sometime...GL.

I'm telling you right now it is impossible to quit.

Why are you quitting? IF you dont enjoy it then fair enough. If your new job means you have no more time then thats a real shame. You seem to have put quite alot of effort into improving and that makes me think you enjoy at least some of it so I hope you get enough time to play occasionally. You dont have to play every day or even every week to keep poker up as a hobby.
Anyway goodluck for your non-poker stuff and make sure you keep checking in.

btw the party isnt over yet. Everyones just taking a short vomit break. Itll all be going smoothly again soon
gabe: Ive dropped almost 100k in the past 35 days.

I really do enjoy the game (except for the downswings ... going out on the bubble deep in a MTT ... having a boat sucked out by four of a kind ) ... AND I have worked hard on my game ... BUT ...

After the high tech crash in 2000-2002, I found myself in a mid life career change. I spent the first 4 years struggling to build a business (financial planning). Finally, 2 months ago, I landed a great job with one of the larger investment houses. I manage about $270M now. Plus, I am studying for a CFP (certified financial planner) certificate with 2 years of work done and one left.

I did leave $100 at neteller so ... just in case I get the itch ... I can play the game. But for now, I need to focus on the new career with the new job and the CFP.

Thanks again to all ... maybe I'll see you at Bodog someday soon ...
